YOUNG ARCHIE COMPETITION
Budding artists between the ages of 0 and 18 were invited to submit a
portrait for the Young Archie competition, as part of our family focused
activities for the Archibald Prize regional tour.
The portraits are of a person who is special to the young artist — someone
who is known to them and plays a significant role in their life.
Portraits were 'drawn from life', like with the Archibald Prize, or created
from memory or a photograph taken by the young artist.

2019 ARCHIBALD PRIZE REGIONAL TOUR
Awarded to the best painting of a notable Australian, the Archibald Prize is
a who’s who of Australian culture, from politicians to celebrities and from

Prize is Australia’s foremost portraiture prize and awards $100,000 prize
money for the winning artist.
In its 98th year, the Archibald Prize has been held annually since 1921. An
open competition, the Archibald Prize is judged by the trustees of the Art
Gallery of NSW. Entries to the Archibald Prize must be painted in the past
year from at least one live sitting. Finalists are exhibited at the Art Gallery
of New South Wales before embarking on a year-long regional tour.

artist Lindy Lee; The People’s Choice was awarded to David Darcy for his

STEPHEN HOGAN: IMAGINE
The studio of Bathurst-based artist Stephen Hogan is bursting with
reclaimed steel, timber and found objects. His sculptures are a playful
exploration of line and form, often with an underlying social commentary.
Each work’s construction is a journey; a jigsaw of steel shapes salvaged
from properties far and wide. "Every element has a history and the
potential for a new life," says Hogan, “All it takes is a little bit of
imagination.”

Hogan has sculpted all his life but a winter welding course at the National
Art School in Sydney in 2012 and working as a studio assistant to fellow
sculptor Harrie Fasher, inspired him to establish a full time arts practice.
Hogan won Bathurst Regional Council’s Waste to Art Competition 3D
section in 2012 and 2013. His work has been included in numerous
sculptural exhibitions including Sculpture at Sawmillers, Sculpture by the
Sea (Bondi), Sculpture Bermagui and Sculpture in the Gardens (Mudgee)
where last year, he won the major acquisition prize.
A BRAG Foyer Exhibition.
