What does GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
mean for carers and children in the children’s centre?
• There is a new registration form with our new privacy notice
in line with GDPR which you can view online at
www.achievingforchildren.org.uk/privacy-notice
• By signing the registration form you are consenting:
• to have your information used only by the children’s centres for
reporting on usage of the centres (no personal information is used)
• for a child to be brought to a session by someone who is not the
parent, such as a childminder
• for safeguarding purposes so that the staff know who is in the
building
• If a parent lives out of the area (not a Windsor and Maidenhead
borough resident) they must still register with the children’s centre
• We will no longer send bulk emails out to parents as we do not have
consent to use the email address for this purpose. If you need any
information sent to you individually you can email childrens.centres@
achievingforchildren.org.uk and we will send you the information
requested such as a new brochure
• All users of the children’s centre must sign in with full names and the
date of birth of the children
• All carers must register their children in order to use the children’s
centre services
• Please remember to put child’s DOB on the form
If you have any queries please ring the Windsor/Datchet Hub on
01753 582564 or Maidenhead Hub on 01628 685642

13HAVE YOUR SAY! Join the Advisory Board
today!
What is an advisory board?
The expectation of an advisory board is to provide a challenging role, to give
focus and direction to offer a good service to local children’s centres and
families to help steer partner agencies to work together to achieve this.
Every advisory board is unique and no one member will be expected to have
all the answers or be solely responsible for the management of the board.
The advisory board may differ between each hub and is developed to meet
the community’s needs.
The success of the board will depend on consistent
representation and cohesive working of all members
to ensure the children’s centre hub is effective and
meets local needs.
Meetings are generally held once a term in one of
the local children’s centres and crèche facilities are
usually available.
Help with transport to and from the advisory board
meeting can be arranged if required.
A good advisory board member is someone who:
• cares about improving outcomes for children and families
• wants to contribute to the local community
• wants to work as part of a team and can value the contributions of
different people
• stands by collective decisions even if they hold a different view point
• asks questions in a constructive manor
• ensures that confidentially is maintained at all times
• shares their knowledge, experience and skills for the benefit of the
children’s centres as a whole and provides an independent view
• is enthusiastic, committed and available to attend meetings and training
• is a voice for the community and feeds back to the local community
and/or the agency they represent
• provides support and challenge for the children’s centre
• supports recruitment for example with interviews or selection panels
14What makes a good advisory board?
• Effective team work
• Being a ‘critical friend’
• Effective meetings that are time managed
• Up-to-date terms of reference
• Focuses and achieves good action plans and outcomes
• Knows the local community and its needs
• Identifies gaps in services
• Is child centred and focuses on children reaching their
full potential
• Prioritising and maintains a focus on shaping services
that support families with the highest needs
• Shares good practice with other advisory boards
• Responds to and participates in inspections including
input into self-evaluation of the children’s centre hubs
If you have any questions or would like more information, please ring 01753

15The Freedom
Programme
“A group to talk about how to move
forward and make me stronger in myself ”
Do you feel afraid of your partner a lot of the time?
Is your partner excessively jealous and possessive?
Do you feel you are walking on eggshells to avoid making your
partner angry or aggressive?
Does your partner blame you for everything?
Does your partner pressure you to have sex when you don’t
want to?Is your partner constantly criticising you and putting
you down in front of others?
Does your partner tell you what to wear, who to see and where
you can or cannot go?
These are only a few of the signs that you could
be suffering domestic abuse.
Drop in to a Freedom Programme support group near you. The
group looks at why men abuse their partners and children and
recognises the beliefs that they hold which allows them to do it.
It is a 12 week rolling programme with no waiting list, so you can
join at any time.
The programme is open to any women who wish to learn more
about the reality of domestic abuse. It is confidential and you can
be sure of a warm welcome.
You will be free to come, free to go, free to think, free to feel,
free to laugh, free to cry, free to share, free to choose, free to
be yourself, free to feel empowered.
