Adding Content to the IEEE Journal Archives

In 2011, IEEE conducted an extensive audit of the entire IEEE journal backfile to identify missing content.
Although the missing content is minimal, IEEE has acquired a significant amount of missing articles and has filled
in the IEEE journal archive as much as possible.

With over 46,000 legacy articles added to IEEE Xplore since 2013, your organization is able to access this content
via IEEE Xplore.

Notable publications with additions include issues from:
    IEEE Spectrum—now available from 1964−Present
 Electrical Engineering (now IEEE Spectrum)—1931−1963
 Communication and Electronics, Transactions of the AIEE pt. 1—1952−1963
 Applications and Industry, Transactions of the AIEE Part 2—1953−1962
 Circuits and Systems Magazine, IEEE—1979−1984
    Computer—1974
 Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on—1970−1982
 Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on—1970−1985

Additional Content from the IET

IEEE Xplore added hundreds of new IET documents each month in 2013, plus content from the newest journals:

     IET Wireless Sensor Systems
 IET Electrical Systems in Transportation

New Features Added to IEEE Xplore

Throughout the year, IEEE adds new features to the IEEE Xplore interface to enhance the experience. Some recent
feature enhancements include:

     IEEE Xplore HTML Content
With a dynamic, interactive design, HTML-formatted articles redefine how IEEE publications are displayed
         online.

Many IEEE Xplore articles can now be viewed on-screen in HTML as well as in the original PDF format.
IEEE Xplore has over 350,000 documents in HTML, with over 2 million expected by the end of 2014.

With this design you will be able to:
o Scan and interpret articles in under 60 seconds using Quick Preview
o Navigate between sections of long articles with intuitive floating navigation

A Proposal for the IEEE Xplore Digital Library Page 8
o Effortlessly explore text, figures, equations, and multimedia files
o Quickly view and copy mathematical equations, expressions, and formulas
o Enhance your research with recommendations for related articles

     New IEEE Xplore Homepage
Now with a mobile-friendly design, it is easier to find what’s new in IEEE Xplore, including news stories,
Just Published content, Most Popular content, and trending search terms. The homepage still has a
prominent search bar, with various search options available.

     Enhanced Author Search
Searching for authors in IEEE Xplore is now more powerful, precise, and time-efficient. IEEE recently
completed a disambiguation project to link and normalize the various versions of an author's name in IEEE
Xplore, delivering markedly more complete search results.
Even more author and affiliation-related features coming in 2015

 View Articles Cited By Patents
See the impact of an article using the Cited By tab on the article abstract page. The tab includes a Cited By
Patents section where U.S. and European patents that cite the article are listed. You can view the full text of
the patent via links to the patent office.

The search results page shows the number of times an article has been cited in patents; the results may be
         sorted by most cited.

 Display Administrator Contact Information to Users
You can now display local contact information on IEEE Xplore to help answer questions and provide
information to your user community. Using your Institutional Administration account, you can set which
contact fields you would like displayed to users. Then, a “Contact Administrator” link will appear along
with your Institutional Branding in the header of every page on IEEE Xplore.

With an Institutional Administration Account, subscription administrators can now modify and customize
certain information associated with their IEEE Xplore institutional subscription accounts. Request an
Institutional Administration Account by e-mailing onlinesupport@ieee.org.

 Download search results to CSV
Download search results to analyze and draw conclusions from your dataset. A button named Export
Results on the search results page allows you to download up to 2,000 records to a CSV file, which will
include over 30 fields of metadata for each record. Gather intelligence from your results such as tracking
content trends and discovering relationships between author and author affiliation data.

 Personalize your IEEE Xplore experience
With an easy 3-click registration process, quickly and simply personalize your experience by logging in
         with a personal IEEE Account.

A personal IEEE Account allows you to sign up for saved search and table of contents alerts, set personal
preferences, and take advantage of enhanced features like search history and My Projects.

     Coming Soon in 2015!
o Enhanced searching by standards number o Standards content in HTML

Exceptional Value for a Fraction of the Cost
IEEE Journals Are Priced Well Below the Market Average
Each year, journal pricing studies show that IEEE publications are priced well below market averages. The
annual Library Journal Periodical Price Survey published in 2014 reveals that the cost of scientific and
engineering journals continues to soar. That’s not the case with IEEE journals, which are priced to be a better
value for researchers in all areas of technology. According to the Library Journal study, the average cost of an
engineering journal is US$2,785. Using the same calculation method, the average price of an individual IEEE
journal is just $905 – 68% lower than competing journals.

$3,000 According to Library Journal (June
