adopting an inclusive approach in its journey towards becoming the most admired natural
beverages company.

                                                                                             4

Education
Tata Coffee has always believed that through education and research, a nation can heighten its
social awareness. In alignment with this belief, enabling access to quality education for the
communities around our operations in Coorg and Annamalai has been an integral part of our
organization for several years. Our education programs span various beneficiaries and age
groups. Although designed initially to support families of our large workforce, our programs
have gained scale to positively benefit communities outside the Tata Coffee family. By
facilitating such programs for the community, we reaffirm our commitment towards larger
societal development through education.
Our education programs include:
   • Swastha
   • DARE
   • Merit Scholarships for students of Coorg and Annamalai
   • Promoting Education and Support for Children with Visual Disabilities
   • Skill Development for the underprivileged through sponsored training programs
SWASTHA
A separate and independent social wing, 'Coorg Foundation', was established by Tata Coffee in
1994 with the objective of promoting the welfare of the local community of Coorg, through
economic, environmental and social initiatives. Swastha was created with support from the
Coorg Foundation in 2003 with an aim to provide special education and rehabilitation to
children who are differently-abled. Children at Swastha are also taught in basic skills of social
communication, numeric, and language. Based on their capabilities, some students are trained
in vocational skills to try and provide them a means of creating livelihood and being
independent in society. The core objective of SWASTHA continues to be in striving to identify,
train, and reintegrate children who are differently-abled back into mainstream society.

Through Swastha, Tata Coffee aims to improve the quality of life of differently-abled individuals
and enable them to achieve socio-economic independence with dignity and self-confidence. In
support of this initiative, Tata Coffee procures all its office stationary that are made by the
children at Swastha.

Developmental Activities for Rehabilitative Education (DARE)
In alignment with Swastha and our commitment towards rehabilitating children with special
abilities, DARE School was set up in 1996 in the Annamalai region of Tata Coffee's operation.
The objective of DARE School is to train differently-abled children to be self-reliant. The
activities range from trainings in basic household chores to reading and basic mathematics.
Children who exhibit greater capabilities are additionally trained in vocational skills that can
enable them to be economically independent.

                                                                                               6

Merit Scholarships
Tata Coffee instituted a scholarship program for the children of the plantation workers in 1995,
covering students from Class 1 up to their professional education. Apart from children of the
employees, scholarships are also provided to children belonging to Affirmative Action groups.
These scholarships are provided to students through the Coorg Foundation.
Promoting Education and Support for Children with Visual Disabilities
Tata Coffee in collaboration with the Karnataka Welfare Association supports a school for blind
children in Bangalore. The residential school works with children from Class 1 to Class 10,
offering special education for over 100 children while providing facilities free of. The school also
provides skill training for the blind students to help them in job placements.
Skill Development Programs
Tata Coffee has collaborated with a skill training institute, Unnati, to provide skill training for
children of employees within the Affirmative Action category. Unnati is a specialized skill
training institute located in Bangalore with a center in Coimbatore as well as in other locations.
Tata Coffee supports children of plantation workers in availing short term training programs at
Unnati, which further supports the students with employment opportunities post the training
period.

                                                                                                  7

Gender Equality
Tata Coffee respects and adheres to the Tata Group philosophy as well as the Millennium
Development Goals of promoting gender equality and empowering women. Tata Coffee
believes in non-discrimination at the workplace and equal remuneration for men and women
employed in the company. Tata Coffee also engages with women in the local communities
through its community development programs. Some of the channels of such engagement are:
   • Awareness programs: Tata Coffee drives and supports awareness programs for women
within and outside its workforce. Some of these impactful awareness programs have
       addressed issues such as:
           o Voting rights of women (Power of 49}
o Alcoholism in the family and its adverse effects

   • Skill training: Tata Coffee has identified the need for skill training of women in the
Jeyamangalam village, adjoining the plant at Theni. The training programs are
conducted in partnership with local NGOs of the Theni region.

                                                                                           8
TATA COFFEE CSR & SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Health and Hygiene
Tata Coffee recognizes the importance of health care services for the community especially in a
region like Coorg where facilities are not easily accessible and available. The Rural India Health
Project Trust (RIHP) was incorporated as an American - Indian Dispensary (AID) and
subsequently developed into a hospital. However, owing to its remote location coupled with
mushrooming of smaller nursing homes and private, the institute struggled to sustain itself.
Tata Coffee then began supporting the Rural India Health Project Trust (RIHP) at Ammathi when
the hospital was facing severe financial crisis with no external aid and insufficient local
donations.
To further enhance our efforts, the local community is educated on hygiene and prevention of
illnesses. Several medical camps are carried out in medical specialization areas of
ophthalmology, pre and post natal care etc. The services provided to the local community are
at a largely subsidized rate which is further reimbursed through the Coorg Foundation. The
Foundation also provides healthcare access to Coorg's remote hilly regions through mobile
clinics. These clinics are operational with diagnostic equipment and staffed with a doctor and
paramedics.

                                                                                                9
TATA COFFEE CSR & SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Environmental Sustainability
At Tata Coffee, our business is predominantly dependent on natural capital. We acknowledge
the advantages in integrating environmental sustainability our strategy, ranging from greater
operational efficiencies and cost savings, to a more robust risk management process, enhanced
sustainability credentials and reputation amongst stakeholders and potential employees. Tata
Coffee believes that protecting and enriching the surroundings fosters integrated growth for
people and our company. Our Environmental Sustainability initiatives include:
       ✓ Bio Fuels
       ✓ Renewable Energy
       ✓ Waste Management
       ✓ Water Conservation
       ✓ Wildlife Conservation

    ► Bio-Fuels
With increasing energy requirement for the tea drying process, Tata Coffee started the use of
biofuel in 2009 through Bio Briquettes, replacing the traditional use of firewood. Bio Briquettes
have higher calorific value and hence are required in lesser quantity when compared to
firewood, making production more economical, eco-friendly and independent of natural
resources. At present Tata Coffee sources close to 70% of required energy through bio fuel
sources and aims to continue increasing the quantity raised over the years to come.
    ► Renewable Energy
Tata Coffee's Environmental Sustainability strategy focuses on utilizing renewable energy
sources and providing energy security to our production units. About 20% of Tata Coffee's
energy use comes from wind energy at the Theni factory with a long term strategy to reduce
the dependence on fossil fuels and increase the renewable energy usage. By sourcing
renewable energy, carbon emissions have significantly reduced taking Tata Coffee a step
forward to achieving carbon neutrality. Further, Tata Coffee aspires to obtain solar power for its
freeze dried coffee production plant.
    ► Wildlife Conservation
At Tata Coffee "Wildlife preservation and maintaining a healthy co-existence between wildlife
and humans" is a key focus area. Wildlife is an integral part of the plantation ecosystem and
Tata Coffee believes that environmental sustainability also encompasses protecting and
preserving the diverse wildlife. Eco-friendly operations and water reservoirs make the
plantation a conducive habitat for wildlife.
Tata Coffee's effort to protect endangered Hornbills are being driven through the Hornbill
Foundation - a registered trust established by Tata Coffee at Valparai. As a part of human
elephant Conflict Program, Tata Coffee works closely with the forest officials, small and
medium planters and other plantation workers through awareness and training programs to
mitigate risks from wild elephants.

                                                                                               10
TATA COFFEE CSR & SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

    ► Water Conservation
As leaders in sustainable agriculture and production, we recognize that we have an important
role to play in helping address the challenge of water scarcity. Water resource management is a
strategic priority for Tata Coffee and we endeavor to promote water for life and livelihood in all
the geographies that we are operate in. For all operations, Tata Coffee has established water
management programs related to water conservation, waste water treatment, rain water
harvesting etc. We have also invested resources in water efficient technologies. Our approach
to water conservation also includes awareness and capacity building programs for all our
stakeholders.
    ► Climate Change Policy
Tata companies play a leadership role in managing climate change by adopting environment
friendly technologies, business practices and innovation, while pursuing their own growth
aspirations and the enhancement of shareholder value. As a Tata Group company, we pledge to
ensure that we will measure our carbon footprint and will strive to:

1. Set the benchmark in the carbon footprint from plants and operations
2. Engage actively in climate change advocacy and the shaping of regulations in our business
3. Incorporate 'green' perspective in all key organizational processes

                                                                                               11

   • The company is also committed to directly conducting or supporting initiatives to ensure
an equal footing for socially and economically disadvantaged sections in the country at
large, and specifically communities covered under affirmative action policy.
   • Towards the ultimate goal of enhancing their employability and entrepreneurship
abilities, Tata Coffee is committed to creating and promoting access to quality education
and technical skills and competencies for members in the marginalized communities in
India. Further to speedily enable these communities overcome the social discrimination
that has prevented them from realizing their potential as productive members of
society, Tata Coffee will assist members from these communities for employment
opportunities and as business associates, provided everything else (merit for
employment, cost and quality for business associates) is equal.

                                                                                               12

minimize the impact of disability by improving the quality of life of the disabled
individuals and thus achieve the goal of socio-economic independence with dignity and

severe financial crisis with no external aid or support and with the local donations falling
tragically short of sustaining the hospital. RIHP started as an American - Indian

TATA COFFEE CSR & SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Governance & Monitoring
Tata Coffee's Sustainability and CSR governance is under the purview of the CSR Committee
appointed by the Board. The CSR Committee comprises of three members and is headed by an
independent Director of the Board. The Committee meets periodically and at least once a year.
The members of the CSR Committee are:
   • Ms. Sunalini Menon (Chairperson) - Independent Director
   • Mr. V. Leeladhar - Independent Director
   • Mr. Mr. Siraj Azmat Chaudhry - Independent Director
   • Dr. P. G. Chengappa -Independent Director
   • Mr. Chacko Purackal Thomas - Managing Director & CEO

The CSR Committee of the Board in Tata Coffee oversees the development and implementation
of the companywide CSR program and actively guides and mentors the various initiatives.
There are CSR coordinators in every reporting unit, who are responsible for collating and
collecting the project data, planning, and implementing the CSR programs, and measuring/
monitoring the progress.

Monitoring Mechanism
Tata Coffee shall adopt a monitoring mechanism that can primarily strengthen the effective
implementation of the established initiatives and also redesign implementation strategies, if
required, to best achieve our targeted goal. Tata Coffee's Sustainability Team along with the
working team of project and program managers/owners will be responsible for monitoring of
the approved projects through established mechanisms. The key elements of this mechanism
include:
       • Allocate responsibility
       • Verify indicators
       • Track progress and impacts
       • Provide reasons for non-achievements
       • Improve service delivery
       • Plan for future activities using feedback from the present as a basis
       • Validate achievements: go beyond what is written down. Ensure frequent site visits
           to understand on ground achievements

                                                                                          18
TATA COFFEE CSR & SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

To ensure the transparency and efficiency of the implementation process, mechanisms to track
data and monitor projects will be established. Through our internal Audit team projects will be
evaluated against the KPls defined as per the plan of action and later reviewed by the
sustainability team on a quarterly basis.
For projects under the purview of CSR, our monitoring and evaluation strategy would also
include a thorough assessment of project outcome and financial estimate. A success of a CSR
project significantly depends on the impact it creates.
Different types of success indicators are required to assess progress towards results. These
success indicators can be applied to project milestones or the overall project
      • Situational (impact) indicators, which provide a broad picture of whether the
developmental changes that matter to Tata Coffee are actually occurring (impact
indicators and situational indicators are essentially the same, although the former may
           be more specific and the latter may be more generic);
      •    Outcome indicators, which assess progress against specified outcomes;
      • Output indicators, which assess progress against specific operational activities.

Another important aspect of a successful mentoring program is to decide the reporting flow
within the company. This flow given below will help companies ensure timely reports are sent
to various teams-

CSR Coordinators would send monthly reports CSR Committee will consolidate the monthly
to the CSR Team reports and issue quaterly report for the Board

The CSR committee will ensure that all implementing agencies carry out timely monitoring
based on established assessment parameters through situational analysis, need assessment,
beneficiary analysis and as required by the program. The monitoring is carried out through the
following tracking mechanism.
