SITRANS SL - Exchange of the ATEX cables Only qualified service technicians who are experienced with the requirements for Ex d and Ex e and who are able to evaluate the result are allowed to exchange the ATEX cables! Follow also the safety notes in the Operating Instruction A5E01132948-04 and in the Certificate PTB 08 ATEX 1008X Required Tools: Allen key 2.5mm, small screw driver, flat spanners with wrench sizes 22, 24, 27, 30 and 36mm Dismounting of the existing cables · Switch off the SITRANS SL in the Ex zone and wait for 2 minutes · Switch off the sensor purging and dismount it from the sensor · Dismount the sensor connection cable between the junction boxes and transport the sensor heads to a clean area · There may be some white powder in the junction boxes: this is talcum powder and should be removed · The window flanges stay on the process and also the process purging stays switched on: the process keeps closed and the windows keep clean, also the alignment is not affected In clean area: · Open the safety screws on the lids and open the sensor heads · Dismount carefully the transmitter and receiver loop cables and main connection cable from the NPT thread in the sensor housings and the junction boxes.

In case of connection cable analog, the reducing adapter must not be removed.

Note: Check that the NPT threads of the sensor housings are complete and undamaged

Mounting Transmitter Sensor · Screw the ATEX cable gland of the transmitter junction box cable with 2 windings teflon tape into the transmitter housing as shown below.

According ATEX and FM standard at least 5 threads have to be screwed in. · Connect the wires according the following table inside the transmitter housing: Colour Code Connection position Red S1 Blue S2 Pink S3 Grey S4 White S5 Brown S6 Green Chassis Yellow Chassis Shield Chassis ATEX Cable gland Transmitter housing Wrap the wire ends with isolating tape to a strand to make it easier to insert the cable and to avoid to damage the isolation of the wires. Release the two nuts (1) and (2) a bit to screw in the cable gland without turning the complete cable.

Mounting and Connection of the Receiver Connection Cable (Analog / MODBUS) · If the reducing adapter Ex d 1/2NPT / 3/4NPT must be reassembled, screw it with 2 windings Teflon tape into the receiver housing as shown below.

According ATEX and FM standard at least 5 threads have to be screwed in. · Screw the ATEX cable gland of the Analog or Modbus Connection cable with 2 windings Teflon tape into the reducing adapter as shown below Reducing adapter Ex d 1/2NPT / 3/4NPT Wrap the wire ends with isolating tape to a strand to make it easier to insert the cable and to avoid to damage the isolation of the wires. Release the two nuts (1) and (2) a bit to screw in the cable gland without turning the complete cable. Mark the cable gland to count the threads. Screw the cable glands into the reducing adapter with 5-6 threads: hand-tight plus 1/6 thread (1 spanner flat) After mounting the cable gland tighten the nuts.

After mounting the cable gland tighten the nuts. · Before connecting the wires: check with a multimeter that there is no contact between the cable bundle and ground: measure between the cable gland and the single wires that there is no connection.

Mounting and Connection of the Receiver Connection Cable (PROFIBUS) According ATEX and FM standard at least 5 threads have to be screwed in. · Screw the ATEX cable gland of the Profibus Connection cable with 2 windings Teflon tape into the receiver housing as shown below · Before connecting the wires: check with a multimeter that there is no contact between the cable bundle and ground: measure between the cable gland and the single wires that there is no connection. Check all wires! There is only transmission between the shield wires and ground.

After mounting the cable gland tighten the nuts.

2 1 Receiver housing Teflon tape Wrap the wire ends with isolating tape to a strand to make it easier to insert the cable and to avoid to damage the isolation of the wires. Release the two nuts (1) and (2) a bit to screw in the cable gland without turning the complete cable. Screw the cable gland into the receiver housing with 5 threads. After mounting the cable gland tighten the nuts.
