O God,
our guide and help in alien and contentious places:
as Esther prayed faithfully and worked courageously
for the deliverance of your people,
strengthen us to confront the oppressor
and free the oppressed,
so that all people may know
the justice and unity of your realm. Amen.

~OPENING PRAYER Lectionary.Library.Vanderbilt.edu Liturgist
Loving God,
open our ears to hear your word
and draw us closer to you,
that the whole world may be one with you
as you are one with us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

~* APOSTLE’S CREED, ECUMENICAL VERSION UMH 882
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
                                                                               2
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen. *universal

SCRIPTURE Isaiah 11:1-3 Pew Bible OT p 602 Liturgist

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will
bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and
of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the
knowledge and fear of the Lord— and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy

Thy will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us.

Amen.

SCRIPTURE John 14:15-27 Pew Bible NT p 103 Liturgist

"If you love me, show it by doing what I've told you. I will talk to the Father,
and he'll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone
with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can't take him
in because it doesn't have eyes to see him, doesn't know what to look for. But
you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even
be in you! I will not leave you orphaned. I'm coming back. In just a little while
the world will no longer see me, but you're going to see me because I am
alive and you're about to come alive. At that moment you will know
absolutely that I'm in my Father, and you're in me, and I'm in you. The
person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that's who loves me.
And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him
and make myself plain to him." Judas (not Iscariot) said, "Master, why is it
that you are about to make yourself plain to us but not to the world?"
"Because a loveless world," said Jesus, "is a sightless world. If anyone loves
me, he will carefully keep my word and my Father will love him— we'll move
                                                                               4
right into the neighborhood! Not loving me means not keeping my words.
The message you are hearing isn't mine. It's the message of the Father who
sent me. "I'm telling you these things while I'm still living with you. The
Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make
everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you.
I'm leaving you well and whole. That's my parting gift to you. Peace. I don't
leave you the way you're used to being left— feeling abandoned, bereft. So
don't be upset. Don't be distraught.

The Word of God for the People of God. Thanks be to God.

The Church’s One Foundation UMH 545

The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord
She is His new creation
By water and the Word
From heav'n He came and sought her
To be His holy bride
With His own blood He bought her
And for her life He died

Elect from every nation
Yet one o'er all the earth
Her charter of salvation
One Lord one faith one birth
One holy name she blesses
Partakes one holy food
And to one hope she presses
With every grace endued

Though with a scornful wonder
Men see her sore oppressed
By schisms rent asunder
By heresies distressed
Yet saints their watch are keeping
Their cry goes up how long
And soon the night of weeping
Shall be the morn of song
