1.1 Our history
The Wisløff family have lived at Sorrisniva since 1885 originally farming and salmon fishing. The name Sorrisniva comes from the early
Finnish immigration to the Alta River and describes the burbling of the water as it flows over the riverbed. The third-generation
brothers of Hans Ulrik and Tor Kjetil have progressively developed their tourism offering starting with riverboat safaris through the
spectacular Alta River Canyon in 1970. Sorrisniva offered the first Norwegian snowmobile safaris in 1989 and added the iconic Lavvu
Restaurant, whose design reflects the Sami tent, in 1992.
In 2000 the Igloo Hotel, Norway’s first ice hotel, was built for the first time. Since then, the ice hotel is built each year in early winter
and offers overnight accommodation through until April. The ice hotel is built by local craftsman and features amazing ice sculptures,
an ice bar and an ice chapel which is popular for weddings and christenings. Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is the world's northernmost ice
hotel.

undertaken in the traditional local riverboats (tale boats) and are led by our experienced boatmen to ensure your safety.
Our riverboat experiences all start and end at Sorrisniva and are conducted between 1200 and 1800 each day as the river is closed to
traffic outside these hours for the famous salmon fishing. The experiences are subject to the river water level to ensure safe passage
over the rapids.
We offer a range of riverboat experiences of different durations ranging from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours with up to 9 guests on each
safari subject to the boat size. Everyone is provided with a life vest and the boatman will tell you stories of the river, its history, and

21.09.2021 2021-2022 Sorrisniva General Pricelist ENG V.13 158 AUTUMN SEASON – 1st of Sept to 30th of November
The autumn period is often considered being the best season in the Arctic region. It is a period of fantastic light and tranquillity.
The combination of autumn colours and white snowy mountain tops are not easy to forget. There are many reasons why the autumn
is considered being the best season in the Arctic. First, you have the night returning to the Arctic region providing great sunrises
and sunsets. Then you have all the autumn colours providing great contrasts in nature. The first snow falls in the mountains as the
temperature is dropping and finally the Aurora Borealis makes its return. The best period to experience the Northern Lights is from
early September to end March. In the beginning of the Northern Lights period there is a good possibility to experience the Northern
Lights before the snow returns. By the end of the autumn the colours that came with the entry of the autumn seasons are
disappearing. The days become shorter and the first cold nights with sub-zero temperatures have arrived. The Arctic is starting to
prepare itself for the Arctic winter. Our Autumn experiences include enjoying the special tranquillity whilst wandering through
nature picking fresh berries, riverboat- or all-terrain vehicle safaris and Northern Lights experiences.
8.1 Riverboat experiences on the Alta River
In the initial days of Autumn, normally until 10 September, the water level in the river is high enough to enjoy a riverboat experience.
The riverboat experiences are the same as offered during the summer season and as are presented above.
8.2 UTV Experiences – Utility Terrain Vehicles
Autumn is an ideal season to enjoy a UTV experience from Sorrisniva up to the inland plateau. The UTV experiences can normally be
enjoyed through to the end of November subject to early snow falls.
The UTV experiences are as presented above in the summer season with their duration and attractions adjusted for the Autumn
season.
