Welcome to
The Royal School
As soon as visitors come to The Royal, they are struck by the warmth and family feel of the place
where pupils are happy and successful.
Academic excellence and a belief that outstanding pastoral care must underpin everything we do is a powerful
combination in enabling that happiness and success. Our pupils are engaged in their learning, supportive of one another
and open, polite and positive when you meet them.

The school as we know it today came into being in 1995 when two pioneering girls’ schools —

Academic Achievement
From Pre-Prep to Sixth Form, our academic focus combines challenge and support in equal measure.
We aim to enable every pupil who joins the School to fulfil their potential and succeed beyond even
their own expectations.
‘The curriculum is outstanding, enriched by a broad
range of extra-curricular activities, and allows pupils
the opportunity to develop their interests and talents’.

Sport & Outdoor Pursuits
Sport plays a very important role in the life of the School, be it through the teamwork of competitive
fixtures, the enjoyment of friendly matches, European tours or pre-season training camps. Girls take
part in Lacrosse, Netball, Rounders, Cricket, Tennis and Athletics as their main sports, whilst boys
participate in Sevens Rugby, Football, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton and Athletics on a regular basis.
Several of our staff have represented their country in their specialist sport and we also employ a
variety of professional coaches and instructors. At every level throughout the School, including
the Sixth Form, sport is a timetabled activity which gives everyone the opportunity to achieve and
maintain high levels of fitness.

Personal Development
Our aim is to create a culture that develops the qualities and attributes that serve young people
and adults best in leading a fulfilling and successful life, however one may define success. The School’s
values — courage, collaboration, compassion, commitment, curiosity, creativity — within our Christian
foundation give a structure to this aim.
At The Royal School we cherish individuality and nurture strengths - encouraging our pupils to be the
best that they can be. We offer academic enrichment opportunities alongside a broad extra-curricular
programme. Pupils are encouraged to try new activities, develop new skills and explore new interests.
Coupled with leadership opportunities such as captainships, Prefect and Head Boy/Girl positions,
pupils can build on their own unique aspirations and develop a crucial understanding of the important
balance between empowerment and responsibility.
