Dear Guests,
Welcome to Daffodil Ball 25 — The Silver Lining and thank you for joining us online for this special evening of philanthropy.
The 25th anniversary is a perfect time to reflect on the progress the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) has been able to make as
a result of the dedicated supporters of this event.
The proceeds from the Daffodil Ball have enabled CCS to fuel discoveries that improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment
and care for those living with and surviving cancer. It’s because of advancements like these that today 63% of Canadians
diagnosed with cancer are expected to survive 5 years or more, compared to only 25% in the 1940s.
The progress is inspiring, but we must go faster and do more.

It is still an unfortunate reality that 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. We must invest in innovation.
This is where our cause for the evening comes in — supporting the Centre for Cancer Prevention and Support (CCPS).
Based in Vancouver, our new CCPS will be a national hub of research and innovation for cancer prevention and survivorship.
It will take discoveries from the lab to life faster, drive system change and help Canadians take control of cancer.
We know that about 4 in 10 cancers can be prevented. Thanks to research advances, we’re also seeing more people survive
cancer than ever before. Through the CCPS, we will be able to focus on new initiatives that support these two ends of the cancer
continuum — preventing cancer before it happens and enhancing the lives of those surviving the disease. Your support will drive
research and programs to help CCS continue to reshape the cancer landscape in our country.
