The 11th Annual Conference of Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand Economic Association (UPUEA) will be held
during 31st October and 1st November 2015 at Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian
Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The 11th Annual Conference will be presided over by Prof.
I.D. Gupta, Department of Economics (Ex-Faculty), Lucknow University. Prof. S. P. Singh, Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Roorkee will be the organizing secretary of the conference.

Timings of the Conference
The Conference will start at 10.00 am on 31st October 2015 and will conclude by 4 pm on 1st
November 2015.Guidelines on the Submission of Papers
Researchers and other professionals are invited to contribute papers on any of the Conference
themes mentioned above. Papers submitted should not exceed 3500 words (including tables and
appendices) with an abstract of 300 words. References in the paper should be given in t he
Harvard style. The papers may be written in Hindi or English. The paper in Hindi should be in Kruti
Dev 30 in font size 16 and in English it should be in Times Roman, 14 point in MS Word. It should
be typed in one and half space on A-4 size paper. The summaries of all accepted papers will be
compiled into a publication that will be distributed among the Conference participants.
The best 10 percent of the papers submitted for the conference will be published in either of the
two issues of the UPUEA Economic Journal after the due revision. Forty percent of the next best
papers submitted for the conference will be published as full text in the Conference Volume. Rest
half of the papers will be published in abstract form. Some selected papers from these abstracts
may be published in edited books. The selection of papers will be carried out by the editorial
board under the chairmanship of Editor-in-Chief, Prof. P.K. Chubay. Two papers for 'BIMTECH BEST
PAPER AWARD' will be selected by President, UPUEA.
The processing fees for the papers accepted for the UPUEA Economic Journal will be Rs. 1000/-
and for the Conference Volume Rs. 500/-.The UPUEA Secretariat will inform the paper
contributors about the processing fees that has to be deposited by 31st August 2015.

LOGISTICS AND OTHER INFORMATION FOR DELEGATES
Conference Registration
The registration fee for the Conference is Rs. 1000/- which will entitle participants to modest
boarding and lodging as well as the conference kit. Completed registration form along with a
demand draft (DD) drawn in favour of "Dean SRIC, IIT, Roorkee”, payable at Roorkee, should be
sent by 30th September 2015 to the Organising Secretary, Professor S.P. Singh, Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT, Roorkee, Uttarakhand (Mob. 09837714002). A soft copy of
the form and the DD should be e-mailed to singh2006_hss@yahoo.co.in. The organizers cannot
guarantee the accommodation of those who register after this date or on the spot.
Membership of the Association
Participants who are not members of the Association need to pay the membership fee to be able
to attend the Conference. The life membership fees of the association is Rs. 2000/-. Payment may
be made through DD/local cheque in favour of "Secretary UPUEA", payable at Varanasi. This
should be sent along with the membership form to

As per precedence, pre-Conference event is also being planned in form of one day workshop on
"TECHNIQUES OF DATA ANALYSIS" from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on 30th October 2015. The
facility will be available only for 60 members, mostly to young teachers and research scholars,
selected on first come first served basis. Those who wish to attend the workshop must submit
their form by 30th September to the Local Organising Secretary of the conference.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has its foundation in the Thomson College, which was
founded in 1847 and was accorded the status of the first University of Technical Education
(University of Roorkee) in Independent India in 1949. On September 21, 2001 the Government of
India declared it as nation’s 7th IIT. Over the years, it has built up and maintained an outstanding
academic reputation. It has academic departments in the area of Engineering, Sciences,
Architecture, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences besides several centers of excellence in
the realm of higher education and research.
Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 1966 for teaching English and
Social Sciences to engineering students. During the course of over 45 years, it has grown into a
vibrant department with teaching and research programmes, encompassing almost all departments
of the institute with core and elective courses. The department also runs Ph.D. programmes in
Economics, English, Psychology, and Sociology. The faculty members are actively engaged in guiding
Ph.D. scholars, conducting sponsored and consultancy research projects and publishing in journals
of repute. The department is equipped with excellent research facilities such as digital
Communication Research and Training Lab; Computer Lab well stocked with relevant software,
economic databases; and Psychology Lab.
Weather in Roorkee in October and November
Winter starts around October and the weather remains generally bright and sunny with
temperatures in the pleasant 15-25 deg C range.
How to reach IIT Roorkee
Roorkee is well connected to Delhi by rail and road. It is situated on National Highways 58 and 73
and is on Amritsar-Howrah main rail route. Some trains which are convenient for travelling
between Delhi and Roorkee are New Delhi-Dehradun-New Delhi Shatabdi Express and Dehradun-
New Delhi-Dehradun Janshatabdi Express. The nearest airport is located at Jollygrant, Dehradun.
However, New Delhi is the preferred airport. National Highway 58 from New Delhi to the higher
reaches of the Himalayas passes via Roorkee. Roorkee is, therefore, well connected to all the major
cities in the region by road. There are frequent bus services to this place from the Maharana Pratap
Inter State Bus Terminal (Kashmere Gate) Delhi.
About Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand Economic Association (UPUEA)
The Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand Economic Association (UPUEA) is the UP-Uttaranchal Chapter of
the premier Association i.e. the Indian Economic Association (IEA) came into existence in 2005.
Professionals of Economics from academic and non-academic institutions are its active members.
The UPUEA organizes annual conferences of members that discuss contemporary economic
problems of India, specially the problems of UP and Uttarakhand. Besides, to promote original
research in the area of regional economic issues, or area specific problems, it publishes biannual
bilingual Economic Journal. The UPEA sponsors or arranges sponsorship to research projects
undertaken by members on disciplinary or transdisciplinary economic issues to add to the
knowledge and to facilitate development of the region. It also supports and encourages the
members to organize seminars, symposia, workshops and training courses for the professionals of
