Research Home Literacy Practices of Australian School-Aged
                   Children with or without Autism
Types of Parents of primary school aged (prep to Grade 6) children with or without
    volunteers Autism.

Description This study aims to extend existing literature by understanding the opportunities
available for children to engage in reading and related activities at home and in
the community, and to investigate whether this changes across development /
                   year of schooling.
What is Your participation in the project will involve completing an online questionnaire
required and about your literacy and reading-related activities at home. It will also include
how long will it completion of the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ), which is not diagnostic. The
take? survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
Incentive While we do not expect any direct benefits to you for participating in this
research, we hope our research will provide insight into literacy-related
experiences of children with and without autism to inform future interventions.

Research Psychosocial Predictors of Fathers’ Wellbeing
Types of All men who have at least one child aged 3 or below, currently in a relationship
volunteers and co-residing with the mother of at least one of these children.

Description Men’s mental health during transition to fatherhood is an important public health
issue that remains poorly understood and under-researched. Poor paternal
mental health can have serious implications for the short and long-term health of
fathers, their marriage/relationship, and also their children’s development.
Findings will address the gaps and limitations in the current literature, informing
the development of interventions to facilitate the transition to parenthood and
                   protect father’s mental health.
What is You will be asked to complete an anonymous, online questionnaire that will
  required and     consist of measures of psychosocial factors, your well-being and general health;
how long will it and your demographics. Completion of these tasks will take approximately 15-20
         take? minutes.

Incentive Participants will be eligible to enter a prize draw to win a $100 JB HI-FI gift
                   voucher.

Types of Undergraduate business students who have completed between 0 and 240
    volunteers credit points.
Description The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how study mode
influences undergraduate business students’ perceptions of employability and
work readiness for graduate employment. It will also be used to identify if
external influences such as working during study and prior work experiences
                   notably affect participant perceptions.
What is Participants can either complete a 17-question survey or participate in a 30-
  required and minute phone interview.

STILL OPEN FOR VOLUNTEERS

Research Does virtual reality enhance pain modulation during
isometric exercise for Achilles tendinopathy (AT)?
Types of People over 18 years of age with symptoms of AT (pain at the back of the lower
volunteers leg between the bottom of the calf muscle and heel bone). Symptoms must have
persisted for a minimum of 8 weeks. Pain intensity must have reached at least
3/10 in the past week. Pain must be reproduced with single leg calf raises.
Participants must be able to read and understand details of the study as well as
                   complete questionnaires in English.
Description The main aim of this study is to investigate the immediate effects of exercise on
Achilles tendinopathy pain. Past research has shown that exercises such as calf
raises have decreased Achilles tendinopathy pain over a long period of time (i.e.
12 weeks), however research is limited and conflicting regarding the immediate
response that exercise has on Achilles tendinopathy pain. In this study we will
be utilising exercise as a treatment in two different settings, and pain sensory
tests to help us quantify each participants' pain levels. There will also be a few
questionnaires for the successful participant to fill in on the day relating to their
pain experience, activity levels, etc. There will also be the option for participants
to participate in an additional component to this study which relates to pain
science. It involves a cold hand immersion bath that is temperature regulated to
8 degrees Celsius. If participants choose (and are eligible) for this portion of the
study, they will be asked to submerge their hand for up to 90s. During this time,
further sensory tests will be performed, and data will be collected.

What is A research investigator will contact you via the phone to determine eligibility (via
required and a series of questions) into the study. Successful participants will be asked to
how long will it attend 1x 2hr session on campus (GC). During the study the participant will
take? undertake a series of exercise protocols accompanied by pre and post sensory
                   tests to determine treatment effects.
Incentive $50 Coles/ Myer gift card & an information pamphlet discussing the latest
                   evidence on managing Achilles tendinopathy

Research Understanding how the brain responds to treatment
                   in tennis elbow
Types of Adults aged 18 years and over
volunteers Elbow pain over the outside of the elbow when gripping or lifting objects
Elbow pain of more than six weeks
Willing to attend a single session at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus.
Description We are investigating how manual therapy treatment affects pain responses
during an isometric exercise in people with tennis elbow. We will be examining
sensory measures at local and remote sites on the body to determine whether
manual therapy applied at the elbow joint has widespread effects on pain and
sensory measures. We will also investigate the relationship between pain-free
grip force with pain, disability, kinesiophobia and sensory measures.

What is Complete 3 questionnaires related to tennis elbow, anxiety and depression and
required and kinesiophobia (fear of movement). You will be required to attend Griffith
how long will it University Gold Coast campus for approximately 2 hours (once off visit). You will
take? be required to undergo standardised sensory tests and perform two short
                   exercise interventions.

Research Exploring men’s experiences with paid parental leave
                   policies in Australia
    Types of Male; 18 years or older; living in Australia; child born after 1st January 2011;
volunteers employed for at least 10 months before and at the time of child's birth. We have
updated our criteria—we encourage all fathers, if interested, to share their
experiences with paid parental leave regardless of their income.

Description Many countries offer paid parental leave policies for fathers to be more involved
in childcare, however the majority of men do not access them. This research
project seeks to explore why this is occurring in Australia and to understand
what impedes men’s decisions regarding parental leave.
What is Participants will complete a survey screening tool to determine if they are
required and eligible for the study. Eligible participants will then complete an individual
interview with the researcher. The expected duration of the interview is 30 – 60
how long minutes. Participants will be asked a range of questions that will allow them to
will it take? share their experiences with paid parental leave policies in Australia.

Incentive Knowing that you have contributed useful information on men’s experiences with
paid parental leave policy in Australia.
