2014 WINTER LEAGUE

WELCOME TO THE KIDZPLAY NETBALL 2021 WINTER SEASON

We extend a warm welcome to all new teams that have registered with Kidzplay Netball and we
wish you and all existing teams a successful season. 2021 promises to be another exciting year.

Founded in 1999, Kidzplay Netball is an open netball league for Year 1 – 6 players. We
offer an environment for children to have the opportunity to have fun while learning ball
skills, team work, fair play and the pure enjoyment of playing a sport.

COMPETITION INFORMATION
 The 2021 Winter League will run from 15 May to 3 July (excluding 5 June – Queen’s
Birthday) and from 31 July to 11 September (14 weeks). Note that some games are played
    in some schools’ holidays.
NB: All 2021 dates subject to Auckland being in COVID-19 Alert Level 1.

 All games are played on Saturdays at Pinehurst School, Bush Road, Albany from 8.45am
until mid afternoon. Time for the final game depends on the number of teams involved in the
    league.

 Year 1
    • These children play a 6-a-side version of netball. Six players make up a team:
       2 x Centres; 2 x Defence; 2 x Attackers.
    • The centres play anywhere on the court except for the goal circles. Attackers and de-
fenders can play in the goal circle, goal 1/3 and centre 1/3.
    • Year 1 games are played on a ¾ size court with a Size 4 netball and shoot at 1.8m goals.
    • Games are two 10 minute halves with a 2 minute half time break.
    • Teams swap ends at half time.
    • All Year 1 games are non-competitive.
    • Bibs are supplied by Kidzplay Netball for the Year 1 6-a-side games.
    • Players must rotate every second week. (i.e. each player will play Centre twice, Defence
twice and Attack twice, over the six weeks.)
    • Substitutions can only be made at half time when a player is on a half game. Substituted
players must go into the position vacated by the person leaving the court. Players can
not move positions during a game.
    • Normal netball rules will apply with the following allowances for Year 1 players.
N.B. If the team is using their own umpire this person must be an adult who can support
both teams to learn the basics of netball:
 Stepping (no travelling, balancing allowed)
 Held Ball (allow 5 seconds)
        All short passes
 Replay ball (be lenient, but must always call an attempt at goal that has not touched
any part of the goal post)
 All Contact and Obstruction (give a warning and adjust players accordingly). Later in
the season it may be appropriate to penalise if no attempt is being made to correct.

UMPIRING AND SCORING

1. Umpiring
All teams must supply an umpire to control their game, unless advised to the contrary by
Kidzplay Netball, or pay $10.00 per game to use a pool umpire.
Please note: Kidzplay Netball will allocate neutral umpires for Year 6, Year 5 Grade A and
Year 4 Grade A in the competition round. These are to be paid for by the team.
Complaints regarding umpiring decisions shall not be accepted unless a Kidzplay Netball
Official/Umpire Mentor has been called to the court during the game.

2. Scoring
One representative from each team is required to be with the scorecard at all times. One is
the scorer for the entire game, the other is an observer/caller for the entire game. The
scorecard does not change from one team to another at half time. Both need to watch the
goal being scored and the umpire signalling and ensure they record the goals as they
happen. The scorers are placed between the teams on the Team Bench side of the court.
Please note: Failure of a team to supply a scorer means they must accept the score as
presented by the opposing team on the official scorecard.
Complaints regarding the official score will not be accepted. It is the teams’ responsibility to
ensure that the correct score is recorded during the game on the official scorecard.

COURT PROTOCOLS (Courts A-F)
Team Bench side of the court is for both teams only (players, reserves, subs, coaches,
managers, and scorers). Both teams are required to be on the same side of the court which at
Kidzplay Netball is the Control Room side of every court.
Supporters are on the opposite side of the court (the Bush Road side of every court), away from
the teams and management.

SAFETY
 Dogs (other than guide dogs) are not permitted on the school grounds. Please advise all
    supporters of this.
 All Pinehurst School buildings and grounds are Smoke Free. Smoking is forbidden in ALL
    areas.
 Bicycles, skates, skateboards, scooters or anything similar are not permitted in the court
    enclosure.
 Parents are responsible for young siblings at all times. Please ensure children do not climb
    over the tennis nets.
 Allow extra time to park safely. Auckland Transport (AT) will issue parking tickets to those
    parking illegally.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Draws and Notices
All draws and related information can be found at www.kidzplaynetball.co.nz Each week we do
our best to get the draws out as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience. If you can
not see the information on the website by Thursday 10am please contact us.

Don’t forget to also ‘Like’ our Kidzplay Netball Facebook page as this is a good place to receive
information about our courses, programmes and leagues when they open for registration.
www.facebook.com/KidzplayNetball

Grading
Grading will be run over the first four weeks of the league (this is dependent on the team
numbers and combinations). Year 1 games are non-competitive.

After grading has finished all teams will be put into a section and a draw will be issued for the
remainder of the term. Where possible we will not play semi-final and final games but this will
be dependent on the number of teams in each section.
Please note: We do not enter into discussion over grading decisions.

Time Requests
Time requests are accepted for specific netball reasons. That is to assist in handling
coach/umpire/player conflicts. They are NOT for teams who wish to elect a preferred playing
time for non netball reasons.

Please note: Whilst every effort is made to meet time requests these cannot always be
guaranteed due to conflicting opposition requests and/or other draw considerations. When an
opposition time request conflicts, Kidzplay Netball will honour the request that best fits the draw
at that time. We will do our best to ensure the draw is scheduled fairly.

Umpire Mentors/Officials
Kidzplay Netball provides Umpire Mentors/Officials who are at the courts to support ALL
umpires. These ladies are experienced umpires who will be available to offer advice and
encouragement and to answer any queries from the umpires and spectators. They are easily
identified by their blue or white jackets.

If advice is given to an umpire we ask this be accepted and acted upon in the intent it was
expressed – to improve the netball experience for our players.

Please do not hesitate to ask them for assistance if you have any issues at all during your
games. Always remember it is best for them to come and observe whilst the problem is
happening as we cannot fix problems after the event.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Umpire Pool
We do have a pool of umpires who we may be able to supply for your game if required. This can
be a long standing arrangement or a one off request.
If you require an umpire each week please mark this on the registration form or advise via
email.

The Umpire fee of $10.00 per game is to be paid directly to the umpire, preferably before the
game.

One off requests need to be booked by the Tuesday prior to the game so that we can arrange to
have someone available. If you cancel your umpire request you must let us know before 10am
on the Wednesday prior to the game or the $10.00 will still be payable to the umpire (please
hand into the control table).

Umpire Jackets
We ask all umpires to wear the umpire jackets supplied to make them easily identifiable to
players and supporters alike. Umpires can pick these up and return to the control tables.

All team Umpires are to wear the yellow jackets and the Kidzplay Netball Pool Umpires are to
wear the white jackets.

Scorecards
Scorecards are picked up from the timing table closest to the game. Even though this is the
responsibility of the umpire, we do ask each team to confirm the card has been uplifted prior to
the commencement of the game. Please ensure that at the end of each game the score card is
returned to the control table – without it there will be no result recorded.

Very important: Before the scorecard is returned to the control table at the end of the game,
we ask all teams to please ensure that the score is recorded at the bottom of the card, both
scorers have signed in the appropriate place and that the coaches have completed the back of
the card.

Please note: One person from each team shall stand together and ensure that the score is
recorded on the scorecard. The scorers must remain on the side line in the centre third area for
the entire game.
At the end of the game the scorecard must be signed by the scorer from each team and this is
the only result that will be recognised by Kidzplay Netball.
No disputes are accepted and cards cannot be changed after the game.

If you are experiencing problems please send for an Umpire Mentor to sort it out during the
game.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Parking
Please be careful where you choose to park. Auckland Transport (AT) can and do enforce park-
ing restrictions on the roads around the venue. In particular we recommend not parking on cycle
lanes or other restricted areas.

Lost Property
Every year there is a considerable amount of lost property left around the courts. We collect this
property and put it on display each week at the control tables.
Anything not claimed or able to be identified by the end of the league will be given to charity.

Wet Weather Policy
We do not cancel any netball games due to the weather. If you should choose not to play then
you have the right to default your game. Please advise this as soon as possible so that we can
contact the other team.
We can be contacted on Saturdays on 021 172 9644.

If the Met Service have issued a Severe Weather Warning we will review the situation on
Saturday morning and post a message on the Kidzplay Netball website as close to 7am as
possible.

If you are on court during a downpour your coach in consultation with the opposition coach has
the right to decide to withdraw the team to shelter until rain stops/eases. However please note
that due to time restrictions (and other games continuing to play) the clock will continue to run
and games kept to schedule.

Communication
All teams must direct any questions directly to their School Co-ordinators in the first instance.
The School Co-ordinator shall be the only person to make communication with the Kidzplay
Netball Co-ordinator on the school's behalf regarding any team changes or queries.
All requests and complaints should be made by the School Co-ordinator and NOT by parents or
supporters.

Complaints
 Complaints regarding UMPIRING decisions shall not be accepted unless a Kidzplay Netball
Umpire Mentor has been called to the court during the game.
 Complaints regarding the BEHAVIOUR of the opposition team shall not be accepted unless
a Kidzplay Netball Mentor has been called to the court during the game.
 Complaints regarding the official SCORE will not be accepted. It is the teams’ responsibility
to ensure that the correct score is recorded during the game on the official scorecard. If you
are experiencing any problems, please send for a Kidzplay Netball Mentor during the game.

KIDZPLAY NETBALL GUIDELINES

Coaches Guidelines
 Players’ positions MUST BE rotated each week. Positions must not be changed at half
time. Substitutions for half games are made at half time. These players go into the positions
of those they are replacing. If a player is injured they may be replaced by another player, in
  the same position.
 For safety reasons, players are NOT allowed on court wearing earrings of any kind
(including keepers), watches or any other jewellery. Taping of ears or bangles is NOT
allowed. If players refuse to take their earrings out they will not be allowed on the court. No
  exceptions will be made.
 Medical Alert bracelets are allowed but need to be taped. (Please note: Kidzplay Netball
does not supply the tape for this.)
 Players’ fingernails must be short.
 Ensure your team is on court, ready to start play, when the bell rings. If a team cannot field
5 registered players within 5 minutes of the commencement of the game the team will lose
by default. (A Kidzplay Netball Umpire Mentor must be present to declare/confirm the win as
allowances may be made under extenuating circumstances.)
 Please ensure that if you have boys in your team they are spread through the court. Only
one boy is permitted in the goal circle at any given time.
 No coaches or parents are allowed on the court during games; ensure you stay on the
sideline. The playing area is for the players.
 Ensure that coaching is undertaken on practice days, not during the game on Saturday.
 Allow the players the space to learn to play netball without continual instructions.
 Do not try to play the game for the players.
 Do not coach the team while umpiring. If the coach is umpiring it is necessary to wear an
“umpire’s hat” and not the “coaches hat”.
 Please ensure that your team’s supporters cheer from the sideline, NOT the goal line (base
  line).
 Encourage fair play.
 Be patient with all players as it does come together in a surprisingly quick time.
 Encourage, encourage, encourage!
 Ensure your team and supporters respect all umpires, all players and all coaches.
 Please encourage your team to show sportsmanship both on and off the court regardless
  whether they win or lose.
 Please do not hesitate to ask one of our Umpire Mentors for assistance if you have any

Umpires Guidelines
 Ensure the scorecard has been picked up prior to the game, the odds and evens marked
following the toss. And that the scorecard is signed and returned to the timing table at the
  end of the game.
 Ensure to check for jewellery and that all players’ fingernails are short before the start of the
  game.
 Make sure your whistle can be heard (blow loudly).
 Keep off the court. The playing area is for the players.
 Politely ask spectators to stay back from the sideline so you don’t run into them.

THE KIDZPLAY NETBALL AIM

Kidzplay Netball is a modified netball league and our aim is:

 To encourage participation and skill development.
 To promote enjoyable and challenging competition, discouraging the “win at all cost” attitude.
 To promote principles of fair play.

Treat children as though they have already achieved their own greatness. Do it enough and they
will actually be all that they dream of becoming.

BEHAVIOUR ON AND OFF THE COURT

The objective of this netball league is to introduce the basic concept of netball to all players.
Just as importantly we strive to provide enjoyable netball for the players, coaches, umpires and
parents in a safe and friendly environment.

Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated in any form as Kidzplay Netball has a Zero
Tolerance Policy towards unacceptable behaviour at all its venues for all participating in our
competition. This includes all players, teams, umpires, coaches, managers, volunteers, and
spectators and any other persons participating in any activity held at the Kidzplay Netball
facilities.

All those involved are strongly encouraged to display and support fair play and sportsmanlike
behaviour at all times.

Acceptable Behaviour:
 Respect others at all times
 Be fair and honest at all times
 Encourage all players
 Respect the umpire’s decision at all times
 Be safety conscious for yourself and others at all times
 Be responsible for your own actions
 Be an exemplary role model
 Encourage sportsmanship both on and off the court regardless whether your team win or
  lose

Unacceptable Behaviour:
 Parent pressure on the sideline
 Intimidation towards players, officials, umpires or other parents
 Violence in any form
 Verbal abuse by any member or spectator towards any other member or spectator

In sports, kids just want to have FUN. Please, for the sake of our children, relax, enjoy the
game and support all children participating with positive feedback, praise and encouragement.

Your support would be greatly appreciated.

COVID-19 INFORMATION

To keep everyone safe, these golden rules will apply:

 If anyone is feeling unwell, they should stay home and seek appropriate medical advice if
     necessary – Healthline – 0800 611 116
 Practice good hygiene at all times: cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue.
 Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!
 We encourage alternative end of game traditions (instead of hi-fives).
 QR codes will be available at all our courts and we ask all teams and their supporters to
download the NZ Government tracer app and scan the QR code every week when attending
netball. Please advise all supporters of this.
 All teams are required to list their players on the back of the scorecards in their playing posi-
     tions each week.
 Teams are also responsible to keep a record of their attendees (players and supporters).
 Players are encouraged to sanitise before, at half time and after their games. Please keep
hand sanitiser in your team bags.
 Hand sanitiser stations will be available at a number of places on the school site.
 We are asking our community to make sure they are up to date with the Ministry of Health’s
COVID-19 webpage and the NZ Government COVID-19 webpage.
 In the event of community transmission in New Zealand, schools are required to advise us of
any cases in their school community as soon as possible.

We ask that all schools take responsibility for players and supporters of their teams. Our model
is that the coach/manager of each team has the responsibility to ensure that all supporters of
their teams have the NZ Government tracer app and have scanned the QR code.
