C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S - M o s h e

Congratulations to Moshe Merz who was enrolled
as a Senior Soldier on Sunday 3rd November. This
is part of the testimony Moshe gave.

“I grew up in a Christian home in Australia. When
I was 4 years old we moved to New Zealand. I
recalled my Dad was a man who devoted his time
to teach me about who God is. Mum also played
a very important role in discipling me.

Things started to change with my Dad and his
lifestyle. He started drinking and became abusive
to the family, and everything centresdaround his
job. My mum’s faith was something that I really
admired during this difficult time.

Mum told us we were moving to NZ. This was difficult for me to give up everything I had going on
in Australia. I was very bitter about life.

When we arrived in Hamilton we struggled to connect with a church family. One day Johanna
Bouter invited us to attend this church. I enjoyed the services and became involved with the youth
group.

I attended Easter Camp, and this was where I found my calling to be a soldier for the Salvation
Army. But didn’t do anything about it at the time. One Sunday there was some retired officers
talking about officership and soldiership. I felt God spoke to me to talk to Marcus about my calling.

When I first came here I was broken. I thought that God wasn’t on my side, but I learnt that it is
through the hard times that God really shines out. When I saw no hope, God saw hope and when I
needed someone to fall back on God was always there. What I have learned is that Satan can sneak
up on you and bite you, but God is more powerful than anything, and he can change destruction
into life. My commitment today is not for The Salvation Army, but the God who influenced The
Salvation Army, to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve all people with the love of God.”

WHAT DOES HE TANGATA MEAN TO US?

Our “Family News” section is called He Tangata.
The name has been drawn from the famous Maori Proverb...
He aha te mea nui o te ao
What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

This section is a place where we can lovingly, celebrate victories and honour
life events.

If you have any information for future issues we would love to hear from
you. Fill out one of the He Tangata forms in the foyer and pop it into the
drop box, also located in the foyer. If you prefer to email or phone us with
your news this information is also on the form.

Under God, the most important thing for us as a faith
community is you, the people;
PEOPLE Matter Most!

“15 And it came to pass, as the angels were
gone away from them into heaven, the
shepherds said one to another, Let us now
go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing
which is come to pass, which the Lord hath
made known unto us.

16
And they came with haste, and found Mary,
and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

And when they had seen it, they made known
17

abroad the saying which was told them
concerning this child.

18
And all they that heard it wondered at those
things which were told them by the
shepherds.”
