With the Dolomiti Superski we will find plenty of terrain to explore. Since we have skiers of all levels on this trip the variety of ski runs will fill our days of plenty of enjoyable skiing. President’s Message Autumn leaves are turning and soon there will be a nip in the air. Ski shops are gearing up with new skis, boards, parkas, goggles, etc. to fill our needs. We're ready for First Flake Fever, a malady that strikes all skiers when frost first decorates our pumpkins. This season, Laine and I are signed up with CMSC to ski at Crest- ed Butte in March. "Banana Funnel" and "Skinny Girl" await. Other lucky CMSC members are traveling to Cortina, Italy in Jan- uary. January also kicks off our racing season in NY and Ohio with our favorite people in the world - the CMSC racers! After 40+ years of racing, some of us are a lot slower than we used to be, but there are classes for everyone, from beginners to experts to old fogeys like me. So tune up your gear, and raise a toast to ski season: "I love us!" Peter Keefe - the Pres ERIE SKI CLUB The club has been having in person meetings since our picnic in August. Our meetings have been in outdoor venues getting anywhere from 25 to 40 in attendance. With the uncertainty of the virus, the board had decided not to sponsor the Warren Miller film this year in Erie. The plan is to resume the following year. Erie Ski Club is running a trip to Big Sky, MT (Feb 5-12, 2022) with the opportunity to do a back-to-back trip with Western PA Ski Council the following to Jackson Hole, WY (Feb 12-19, 2022). The 2 trips basically sold out in like 3 weeks. For the ones on both trips, we have ar- ranged a coach to transfer between Big Ski and Jackson. This is the third time we have ran back-to-back trips with the Erie Ski Club and Western PA Ski Council. Yeah, we planned it this way! We’ve done this before and it works well. This past summer the club was able to go to 2 Erie Seawolves minor league baseball games. We had 20 people on each event. We sit up in the Beer Garden, you get a ticket to the game, and includes 2 beers, hotdogs, hamburgers, and Italian sausage sandwiches and other snacks and unlimited sodas and water. Suburban Ski Club We are planning three major trips this year: The first will be to Breckenridge, CO January 22-29, 2022. For our eastern trip we will return to Killington and its sister resort Pico Mountain in Vermont, with a day at Okemo. The date for this trip has changed to one week earlier than previously announced, February 6-12. Like our other recent trips to New England, this will be a bargain-priced, all- inclusive package with bus transportation, lodging, five days of ski- ing, daily hot breakfasts, and dinners, all for only $1199. We will stay in the Killington Mountain Lodge. Travel will be by charter bus and will include our legendary on-board breakfasts, box lunches and snacks. Many members have come to prefer these bus trips over the hassles of air travel. Our third major trip will be to Telluride, March 19 to 26. We will stay at the Telluride Moun- tain Lodge in Mountain Village, with ski-in/ski-out access. This will be our third attempt after the pandemic forced us to cancel in 2020 and again in 2021. This trip is currently sold out. In addition, we will have several one-day bus trips. Dates for those trips will be announced soon. Our goal is to give people as many opportunities to ski as possible. Indeed, our motto is “We Ski Every Week.” To ensure the safety of our members, we are requiring proof of COVID- 19 vaccination or a negative test result less than three days prior to any trip or other club event. Members can make reservations for one-day and two-day trips online and pay with a credit card or print out a flyer to mail in with a check. Flyers for the major trips are available on our web site. Reservations for these trips can be mailed in and paid in installments by check. Dues are just $20 per person, and first-time members get a special price of only $10. Membership forms can be printed from our web site and mailed in, or the application can be completed online and paid with a credit card or PayPal account. For more information about Suburban Ski Club, email info@suburbanskiclub.org. A complete listing of upcoming events, trip flyers, membership applications, and more can be found on our website, https:// www.suburbanskiclub.org.

WARREN SKI CLUB After a year of limited ski opportunities are you looking forward to visiting a unique ski town and skiing somewhere different this winter? How about traveling to Bend, Oregon, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country to ski a volcano? You can do just that by joining the Warren Ski Club on its trip to Mount Bachelor March 3 through 12. Attendees will stay downtown at the Lodge at Double Tree, walking distance from local eateries, boutique shops and entertainment. What to do on your day off? Attend the Bend Ale Trail to sample craft beers at award-winning breweries, take a photo tour of the area, or just walk or bike around Bend to view the beautiful river and over 20 art structures. Although it may be snowing on the slopes, town often is often warmer and more comfortable for any of these activities. The mountain itself is the 6th largest ski resort in the U.S., offering over 4300 acres of lift-accessible terrain, over 450 inches of dry snow each year, a 3365 foot drop, and 100 runs, the longest being 4 miles long. You will experience short lift lines on Mt. Bachelor’s 12 lifts, eight of which are high-speed quads. For the great price of $1759 per person, double occupancy, you receive air fare to Portland, transportation to and from the airport to Bend, a 5-day lift ticket, 7 nights’ lodging with hot breakfast, and daily private shuttle to the slopes. If interested in joining us, contact the Warren Ski Club Trip Director, Mary Kirila, at 330- 502-9360, or check our Facebook page or website, www.warrenskiclub.org for flyers and registration forms. Do it today, as the deadline to sign up is quickly approaching. Our club has also been busy planning a week-long trip to Sun Valley as well as day and overnight trips to Holiday Valley and Bristol Mountain for the 2022 season -- though it has been hard to focus on skiing when the weather this fall has been so warm and dry! We have continued to bike on Thursday evenings and week- ends, paddle on local rivers and lakes, hike and golf at Mill Creek Park, and have recently re-instituted our Pubs of the month. We hosted a successful picnic in June and a well-attended moonlight paddle in July. In October we have a weekend trip planned to southern Ohio where we will travel to Salt Fork State Park, stop- ping at wineries on the way. There we will hike or relax poolside, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the beautiful lodge. Sunday we head to The Wilds to tour the Columbus Zoo’s Wildlife Safari with stops planned at breweries on our travels back to the Mahoning Valley. We also have a giant bonfire planned for Hallow- een weekend, with pumpkin carving and pot-luck dinner. Needless to say, we have stayed active throughout the off-season, and plan to continue to do so until skiing begins in December. Until then, THINK SNOW!! Goodyear Ski Club Goodyear Ski Club is based in the Akron area. We are a year round social and ski club. If you love skiing and would like to travel with fun loving, active people, then consider joining GSC. We have skiers of all ability levels from cruisers to the fast and deep. You can always find someone to ski with. This year we have three trips planned. The first is to Zermatt, Utah from Sunday, January 30 to Friday, February 4, 2022. Zermatt is a resort and spa featuring Swiss Style architecture and decor. It is located at the base of the Wasatch mountains. Swimming in hot springs and enjoying massage will be options as well as being able to ski at Park City, Deer Valley, and Sundance Mountain Resort. There are still openings for this trip but do not wait, the spots are filling up fast. The second trip is to Mammoth Mountain, California from Saturday, March 5 to Sat- urday, March 12, 2022. Mammoth lives up to its name with more than 3500 skiable acres and the highest summit of any California resort. Both trips include lodging and airfare. This trip is filled but you can add your name to the waitlist in case there is a vacancy. The third trip is an overnight trip to Holiday Valley and Holimont, Sunday January 23 – Tuesday, January 25. We will be staying at the Wingate in Ellicottville. See flyer for price and more details. This summer, with many members vaccinated, the club resumed social activities. We had a June bike ride in the Cuyahoga River valley. We also had bi-weekly gatherings at local pubs and wineries. It has been great catching up with everyone we’ve missed this past year. Our annual club picnic at Wingfoot Lake Park was well attended as was the golf scramble. On October 15, we will try our hand at Pickleball. The event will take place at Tow- path Tennis Center where instruction and equipment will be provided. We also have plans for a Chili Cookoff in November and a Euchre Tournament. As you can tell, we are a very busy ski club. The club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month in the Akon/Cuyahoga Falls area. You do not have to be employed by Goodyear to be a member of the club. You just have to enjoy skiing with wonderful people. For more information on Goodyear Ski Club, go to www.GoodyearSkiClub.org or check us out on Facebook.
Hi Rise Ski & Sport Club Hi Rise Ski & Sport Club is a year-round ski and social club based on the east side of Cleveland in Lake County. From the fourth Wednesday in May until the second Wednesday in Sep- tember we hold our meetings at Spirits of Willoughby, 827 Erie St. It’s a very social gathering with updates on what our club is doing During the cooler weather we continue to meet the second and fourth Wednesday of every month (mid-September to mid-May) at the Legion Hall on Vine Street in Willowick at Willow- ick Ave. We have the hall to ourselves, the meetings start around 7:30PM and we have vari- ous events including, Italian Night, pot luck dinner, beer tasting, wine tasting, breakfast for dinner, trivia, chili cook off, souper bowl night, slave auction and many more. It’s a great even- ing to socialize that usually includes food as well as beer, wine and water. We have been meeting here for several years. I am happy to announce that Hi Rise defended the Metro Cup again on a golf course that re- sembled a swamp after 4” of the rain prior to the well-attended event. We have numerous events and gatherings set up to keep us busy before ski season and will be continually adding more so check our website for updates. Wednesday October 6th, we have Dinner of the Month (First Wednesday of every month) at Haufbrau House in Cleveland. No- vember 3rd we’ll be enjoying fine Italian food at Pastina Rustic Italian restaurant on Mentor Ave. in Mentor. Continuing the Italian theme as the cold weather approaches, we’ll be in Willoughby Hills December 1st at Mario Fazio’s. January is still to be announced and in Febru- ary we’ll celebrate Chinese New Year at Siam Café in Cleveland. November 6th brings another golf outing with a twist, you can only use one golf club, our bi- annual one club golf outing at the soon to be world class Green Ridge Golf course in Wickliffe. Golfing is hard enough so you want to test your skills with this challenge in any weather but the beer wench cures all that is distracting us for this event. We meet afterwards for lunch, prizes and lies about all of those putts we just missed at The Firehouse in Willoughby Hills. “Give it a swing!” This helps support our race team that begins racing in the New Year. December 17th we’ll be supporting our own Cleveland Monster’s downtown playing the fast- est game on ice, hockey. Always a fun night with good seats at a reasonable price. That should get us into some cold weather and skiing, we have a trip to Whitefish, Mo. In Jan- uary that is currently sold out. We are also going to Lake Tahoe, February 26 to March 5 stay- ing at Harvey’s Resort Casino in Nevada less than a 5-minute walk to the gondola at Heavenly. Just recently we held our 51st Anniversary Celebration of the founding of Continental Ski Club, as the 50th was postponed due to COVID! In addition, we just recently held our Annual Steak/Clambake, which had great food and beautiful weather for October! Furthermore, it is that time of year in Northeast Ohio when Autumn has arrived with the awe- some colors, so hope you are enjoying all the beauty! As we are all aware, winter will be here in the near future and that means skiing! Our ski activities include weekend trips and partici- pation in the CMSC 2022 Race Program and the Kids’ Race Program, so definitely look for us on the slopes or in the lodge. Youngstown Ski Club We are a small but passionate organization, comprised of active people who enjoy organized activities and events. Members and guests can be found in their element enjoying bicycling, hiking, camping, kayaking, boating, sporting events, wineries, breweries, traveling, sightseeing, and of course skiing, to name a few. We are guided by open-minded, enthusiastic, and focused volunteers that are relentless in the pursuit of fun, budget-friendly options. As always, we encourages all our members, guests, and CMSC community to em- brace and join in all of our activities and events. The Youngstown Ski Club is much more than our namesake, and we always pursue growth of our membership, promote an active lifestyle, and share in cooperative efforts within our Council community. Like so many other clubs, organizations, and business, this ongoing pandemic has caused us to rethink and restructure many events. There is much more effort that goes into the planning of things during these times of uncertainty. Nonetheless, we have found a way to communicate and leverage all pertinent information to our membership and potential guests. The weekly and cooperative Pedal Party has produced great attendance this summer and we are working on expanding group bicycle rides for next season. Hiking has also gained interest. Currently, we are working on accepting memberships and filling roles within the organization. Applications are available online and on social media. Last year, due to this pandemic, was the first time in our history that we had to cancel an annual event! We are hopeful to navigate any restrictions and issues, and bring back something this year. With that being stated, we are planning to follow through with our longest active fundraiser, The 56th Wine Taste & Dinner Dance, taking place Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Ciminero's in Niles Ohio. This is an intriguing and fun event, with a holiday theme, including wine tastings, dinner, dancing, bar, basket auction, and money raffle! Tickets will be on sale soon and we hope to have interest and participation once again. Ski Trips for 2022 are still in the works as of this article. Communication back and forth is not as smooth as it once was, so there is a delay in putting packages together. Trip Leaders are working hard this year and they certainly need rewarded with your interest and participation on these trips! It goes without saying, The Youngstown Ski Club will be skiing in the East as the resorts we are looking at include Peek'n Peak, Kissing Bridge, Holiday Valley, Snowshoe, and Cockaigne. We have one combined effort with WSC going to Holiday Valley for the day on a weekend in February, and there are plans to work with other clubs to fill busses or drive up. Interestingly, our President is running a trip to Whiteface in late January. You can check that out too... Just like the city, The Youngstown Ski Club is a proven survivor, offering an unrivaled blend of fun and enthusiasm with every endeavor! We ask that members, guests, and friends take advantage of the several fun opportunities from our passionate social group. We are very active on Social Media sites and encourage you to visit, like, and/or follow our several pages. Club meetings are typically held on the second Monday each month at the MAGIC TREE in Boardman. Stay SAFE and JOIN us soon... Hello Racers! At last … the 2022 season is almost here. I can feel the cold January air on my face as I type this. As I said in my last article, I think 2021 was a good reset for us as lovers of the snow. I think last year, I fell even more in love with snowboarding. Even though I didn’t get to see as many of you as frequently as I would have liked (thanks, Covid), it was nice to take a break from the craziness of race season and get back to the basics: ripping corduroy with my friends and enjoying a well earned beer at the end of the day. If you are on the email list, I had to share a bit of bad news concerning our race schedule. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, we will not be racing at Bristol this year. It wasn’t the phone call I wanted to have, but with any obstacle in life, it’s 90% how you handle it and 10% the issue itself. I’m sure that you’re wondering “what does this mean for ski com- bined?” It might be a little tricky to figure out logistically, but we are going to hold snow- board combined and ski combined at Swain 2. I’ve already got my thinking cap on (and so does the rest of the committee) to formulate a plan to pull both of these races off over those two days. The updated schedule is below: January 8 - 9 Holiday Valley January 15 - 16 Swain 1 January 29 Kissing Bridge January 30 Holiday Valley February 12 Snow Trails February 26 - 27 Swain 2 Hopefully you’ve heard about the Clam Bake on October 23rd at Anne and Frank’s house. We had such a great time last year, we’re doing it again as a fundraiser for the racing pro- gram. If you didn’t receive a flyer, please email me at bbertuzzi7@gmail.com and I’ll get you a flyer. RSVPs are due in no later than October 16th for planning purposes. Think of it as our official kick off to the 2022 season. Until then (or our first race at Holiday Valley), keep being good little hand washers, try not to cough on anyone and above all else: be kind. The Commish
