Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C 29-30 January 2022
Dear parishioners and friends of St Agnes,

   Australia Day Awards

We are delighted to announce that the St Agnes’ Catholic Parish Flood Recovery Group was successful in
winning the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council 2022 Australia Day Award in the category of Community Group of
the Year. Peter Johnson, Manager of the Parish’s Recovery Support Service, received the Award on behalf of
the Flood Recovery Group at the online ceremony. This award is something which we can all be proud of.
It recognises the many staff and volunteers across all the Parish service areas that contributed to help our
communities recover after the severe flooding of March last year. This commitment to the community and
working together with government and other organisations has meant that we have been able to help
hundreds of local individuals and family members that were, and continue to be, affected by the floods. There is
more information about this announcement in the News section of the Parish website:
  www.stagnesparish.org.au
But wait there’s more………Congratulations also goes to Georgia Ryan who won the Young Citizen of the Year
category. Georgia is a student at MacKillop College and actively advocates for people with dyslexia and other
specific learning difficulties. She is also one of our wonderful altar servers at our Sunday night masses. Well
  done, Georgia!!

   Father Dennis Rochford
Fr Dennis has been with us since before Christmas and he will soon be going to Alstonville Parish to ‘supply’ for
Fr Max Gow who is having his holidays in February. “Supply” means he lives in the parish and ‘supplies’ the
masses, the sacraments and any other needs to the Alstonville community while Fr Max is away. Fr Dennis will
be doing supply work for the Diocese and will use Port Macquarie as his base.

Schools – Welcome back and HSC Results

A big welcome back to all the staff and students of our six schools. As you are no doubt aware from media
reports, it will be a challenging start to the year with RAT testing twice a week, masks and a raft of other
requirements as announced by the State Government. The logistics involved in the first four weeks of this
school term will be enormous, so please keep our staff and students in your prayers. Despite these challenges, I
would like to take the opportunity to wish all our school communities the very best for the 2022 school year.
Our parish is incredibly proud of every Year 12 student at St Agnes’ Parish Secondary Schools in 2021. Recently
the results of the HSC were published and of the St Joseph’s Regional and MacKillop Colleges, 43 students who
studied their HSC received an ATAR of 90 plus. Congratulations also to Newman Senior Technical College
students who completed their HSC and gained Vocational Education and Training (VET) Qualifications as the
same time. Every student should be proud of completing Year 12 as they also negotiated the challenges of
studying for two years during the uncertainty of the pandemic environment. These results are an excellent
reward for their commitment, resilience, and perseverance throughout their Year 12 journey. Congratulations
  and well done to all!!!!
  Father Paul
