intro miart is a fair conceived as a platform fostering dialogues between contemporary art, modern art and collectible design. In 2019, miart hosted 185 galleries from 19 countries, with an exhibition format that brings together international contemporary artists, post-war masters, emerging talents and experimental design. miart is the Italian art fair with the broadest chronological offering of artworks, spanning the period from the early years of the 20th century to works by the most recent generations: through its 5 sections, miart encourages interaction between different creative disciplines, and between history and the present. Every spring, the rich programme of awards, an ambitious series of talks and exclusive VIP events bring over 60 directors and curators of international museums, 250 collectors and over 12,000 VIP visitors to Milan. The 25th edition of miart will once again be the catalyst for Milano Art Week, the week-long schedule of newly commissioned exhibitions, openings and events involving Milan’s most prestigious public and private institutions, foundations and galleries, plus non-profit and independent spaces —all of whom make Milan a favourite cultural destination for art lovers, collectors and professionals. Gladstone Gallery , New York - Brussels 3
milano art week Every year, miart heralds a new edition of Milano Art Week, a packed calendar of openings and events involving the city’s many public and private institutions, including Fondazione Prada, Pirelli HangarBicocca, Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Triennale di Milan, Museo del Novecento, PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Fondazione Carriero, Fondazione Furla, GAM - Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Palazzo Reale, Fondazione Prada Osservatorio, Fondazione ICA, FM – Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea and Fondazione Pomodoro, amongst the many others. Organised in conjunction with the City of Milan, the 2019 edition of Milano Art Week was the richest to date, attracting, amongst others, artists like Lizzie Fitch / Ryan Trecartin, Ibrahim Mahama, Sheela Gowda, Lygia Pape, Anna Maria Maiolino, Hans Josephsohn, Anj Smith, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Sophia Al-Maria, Marinella Pirelli, Carlos Amorales and Renata Boero, together with large scale group exhibitions such as Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival, The Unexpected Subject: 1978 Art and Feminism in Italy, and Hyper Visuality. miartalks Every year, miart offers visitors a platform of round tables, discussion groups and interviews that attract over 40 international speakers including artists, museum directors, curators, writers, collectors, thinkers and designers. For the fifth year running, miartalks will be presented in collaboration with In Between Art Film, the cinematic production house founded by Beatrice Bulgari to encourage cultural exchange between different contemporary art tendencies through the production of art films and documentaries and support for institutional moving image projects. Each miartalks cycle deals with a single theme. The programme has therefore assumed the richness of a symposium and every year attracts the most authoritative and prestigious speakers on the international art circuit. 28 Massimiliano Gioni Jessica Morgan Nancy Olnick Giorgio Spanu
