Book Madness Winner At the beginning of March, Mr. Breadon and Mrs. Petitjean challenged their 5th graders to a Book Madness competition in the spirit of March Madness. Although we did not get to finish the competition during school, students were given the opportunity to share Google slides presentations and/or participate in several Zoom sessions to share their book and why we should read it. Thanks to all students who continued the competition, doing so virtually. The winner from Mr. Breadon's class was Jaci Kammes. Maddy Place was the winner from Mrs. Petitjean's class. For the championship, the girls faced off one last time, with Maddy Place winning the overall competition. Great job, girls! We hope the students enjoyed the competition, while also getting some new book ideas for summer. Keep reading!! Science via ZOOM! The 5th grade science class was studying a weather unit and invited Black Hawk alumni, Craig Berget, to do a zoom meeting with the students. Craig graduated from Black Hawk in 1990 and then received a bache- lor's degree in Atmospheric Sciences from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a meteorologist at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport for the last 25 years. Craig explained about his job as a meteorologist at the airport, schooling and classes he took for his degree, and tools used for weather predictions and measurements. The 5th grade science students then asked questions about weather and meteorology. A big thank you to Craig Berget and our 5th grade students for taking the time for the zoom meeting to learn more about science and careers in weather. Mr. Breadon
