Silent Auction Catalogue Summer 2020
WELCOME Dear Supporters, Welcome to the EDUPAVI Silent Auction 2020 Catalogue! We are honoured that you have taken the time to support this event, and are thrilled to present our exciting selection of auction items on June 27th. We have put together this event to raise support for children of low-income families in Guatemala that have been hard hit by COVID-19 restrictions, and are struggling to continue their education. Guatemala is a breathtakingly beautiful country rich in culture and creativity, but historical processes of inequality have left many of its people to deal with ongoing patterns of poverty which leave them vulnerable to crises like COVID-19. In 2019, the enrolment rate in Guatemala for the 7th grade was less than 40%. We have seen the consequences of poverty in the lives of children - how many drop out of primary school to help their families earn income, or because they cannot afford it, or because their parents are unable to help them with homework due to a lack of education themselves. These children (often women) grow up to realize they have limited options to survive, which drives them to enter exploitative work environments, abusive relationships, substance abuse and/or gang involvement, continuing the cycle of disadvantage as they raise children themselves. At EDUPAVI Canada, we believe in a future that sees individuals empowered, poverty cycles broken, and dignity restored. Understanding the importance of preventative empowerment in the fight against inequities and injustice, we are committed to partnering with local Guatemalan organizations to provide consistent educational, physical and spiritual support to the disadvantaged. event, and the invoices will be sent via email, along
with payment and item pickup instructions.
