             Brief Order for Confession & Forgiveness

P In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy
   Spirit.
C Amen.
P Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires
   known, and from whom no secrets are hid; Cleanse the
   thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
   that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your
   holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C Amen.
P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth
   is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful
   and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
   unrighteousness.
P Most merciful God,
C We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot
   free ourselves. We have sinned against you in
   thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and
   by what we have left undone. We have not loved you
   with our whole heart; we have not loved our
   neighbors and ourselves. For the sake of your Son,
   Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew
   us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will
   and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy
   name. Amen.
P Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us,
   and for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and or-
   dained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority,
   I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your
   sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
   Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

+                               Opening Hymn

                    Holy Spirit, Truth Divine
                   1          Holy Spirit, truth divine,
                            dawn upon this soul of mine;
                           word of God and inward light,
                           wake my spirit, clear my sight.

                    2         Holy Spirit, love divine,
                           glow within this heart of mine;
                              kindle ev’ry high desire;
                            purge me with your holy fire.

                  3          Holy Spirit, pow’r divine,
                              fortify this will of mine;
                            by your will I strongly live,
                           bravely bear, and nobly strive.

                   4          Holy Spirit, peace divine,
                           still this restless heart of mine;
                           speak to calm this tossing sea,
                              stayed in your tranquility.

                   5         Holy Spirit, right divine,
                         king within my conscience reign;
                            be my guide, and I shall be
                            firmly bound, forever free.

The Prayer of The Day

 Children’s Sermon
The First Lesson                                       Isaiah 6:1-8
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a
throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the tem-
ple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings:
with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their
feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said:
‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his
glory.’ The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those
who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: ‘Woe is
me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a
people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King,
the LORD of hosts!’ Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a
live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of
tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: ‘Now that
this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is
blotted out.’ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom
shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send
me!’

The Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
1Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news
that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which
also you stand, 2through which also you are being saved, if you
hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you
have come to believe in vain. 3For I handed on to you as of first
importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our
sins in accordance with the scriptures, 4and that he was buried,
and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the
scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the
twelve. 6Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers
and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some
have died. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the
apostles. 8Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to
me. 9For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an
apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the
grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not
been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of
them—though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with
me. 11Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so you
have come to believe.

P The Holy Gospel According to St. Luke, the
  fifth chapter.

  C
  1Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret,
  and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of
  God, 2he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fish-
  ermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3He
  got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and
  asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat
  down and taught the crowds from the boat. 4When he had fin-
  ished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water
  and let down your nets for a catch.” 5Simon answered, “Master,
  we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if
  you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6When they had done this,
  they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to
  break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to
  come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so
  that they began to sink. 8But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell
  down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am
  a sinful man!” 9For he and all who were with him were amazed
  at the catch of fish that they had taken; 10and so also were
  James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Si-
  mon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on
  you will be catching people.” 11When they had brought their
  boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

          Songs of Thankfulness and Praise
          1 Songs of thankfulness and praise,
                       Jesus, Lord, to thee we raise;
                           manifested by the star
                           to the sages from afar,
                       branch of royal David’s stem
                         in thy birth at Bethlehem:
                      anthems be to thee addressed,
                       God in flesh made manifest.

               2       Manifest at Jordan’s stream,
                    Prophet, Priest, and King supreme;
                       and at Cana wedding guest
                        in thy Godhead manifest;
                        manifest in pow’r divine,
                        changing water into wine;
                      anthems be to thee addressed,
                       God in flesh made manifest.

               3         Manifest in making whole
                      palsied limbs and fainting soul;
                         manifest in valiant fight,
                       quelling all the devil’s might;
                         manifest in gracious will,
                        ever bringing good from ill:
                       anthems be to thee addressed,
                        God in flesh made manifest.

           4 Grant us grace to see thee, Lord,
                        present in thy holy word;
                        grace to imitate thee now
                      and be pure, as pure art thou;
                     that we might become like thee
                          at thy great epiphany,
                     and may praise thee, ever blest,
                       God in flesh made manifest.

The Apostles’ Creed
+ I believe in God, the Father almighty,
          creator of heaven and earth.
    I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
          He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
                and born of the virgin Mary.
          He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
                was crucified, died, and was buried.
          He descended into hell.*
          On the third day he rose again.
          He ascended into heaven,
                and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
          He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
    I believe in the Holy Spirit,
          the holy catholic Church,
          the communion of saints,
          the forgiveness of sins,
          the resurrection of the body,
          and the life everlasting. Amen

                     The Prayers of The Church

                        The Lord’s Prayer
       Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
                thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
                     on earth as it is in heaven.
                  Give us this day our daily bread.
                   And forgive us our trespasses,
            as we forgive those who trespass against us.
      And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
        For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
                      for ever and ever. Amen.

                              Benediction
