Even though we have a pool at our home, we love coming to the WCC pool to see friends and enjoy the amazing food and service available poolside. We feel like the WCC pool is our ‘home away from home’ pool. We’ve made some great friends who are like family to us and being with them at the pool is definitely our summer highlight. The kids can swim while the parents enjoy some ‘adult’ time. With our crazy schedules, we really use the Club to meet up and be with each other. The WCC pool is a family hub for us. There are many times when we have all five cars here because we’ve all come from various places and activities. It’s a great way to relax and forget about what waits for us outside the gates. The pool staff is incredible this year! We really feel like we’ve gotten to know specific people and they always greet us with a smile. Dre, Dean and Sierra come to mind first when thinking of great service. They even know what drinks Jim and I like and have those ready before we sit down! Every member of the staff is kind, professional and eager to help, and they do it with a friendly attitude. First-class service for sure! “There are many times where we have all five cars here…” —Cyndra Whiddon pool As a swim team family, home swim meets are our favorites! Getting to share our amazing pool with other clubs is a highlight for sure. When we come to the pool for non-swim meet times, we love lounging by the pool or eating in the shade at one of the tables. Happy Hour on Fridays is something we enjoy as well. We love having new things to try and sitting by the pool is a great way to end the workweek and start the weekend. 7
The Club is definitely an extension of our home. We are using most of the offered amenities on a weekly basis. Sharmin spends many hours a week in the fitness facility playing pickleball and working out. I am learning to play golf and really enjoyed lessons with Carlton Dove this winter. We spend time at the pool during the summer and take part in many of the social activities like wine/beer progressive events on the course and the theme parties that happen throughout the year. The Club is a great place to entertain. We enjoy sharing it with friends and family who come to Wichita to visit. You could say that the Club is our second home! We moved to Wichita almost six years ago and have been WCC members for about two of those. Our time at the Club has really improved our Wichita experience. Folks who recognize new members and make a point to make them feel welcome really make a difference! We have met most of our Wichita friends at the Club and appreciate this special place that has allowed us to feel more at home. “We encourage everyone to seek out new members and make them feel welcome. It is so important!”—Steve Meadows WCC is a sanctuary for us! Spending time relaxing at the pool or playing nine holes in an evening after work really helps take the edge off. With the great service provided by the Club, it feels like a Four Seasons type of experience right here in Wichita. There are so many great employees at the Club! Sierra and her team at the pool are doing an exceptional job this year! The Men’s Grill hosts make it a special place to take someone for a business lunch or just hang out after work. The fitness and golf staff members work so hard to make sure everything is perfect. Michael Bond and Lucy Kovalova teach amazing pickleball and tennis lessons. They welcome players new to the sport to learn the game and connect groups of players that are at the same skill level so it’s not intimidating to them to get out and play. “ With the great service provided by the Club, it feels like a Four Seasons type of experience right here in Wichita.” —Steve Meadows So much to say about food. We’ve been to a few special dinners where it was obvious Chef Kurt, Chris and the catering crew were really working well together. The Frog’s Leap wine dinner was amazing! Overall, I’d have to say the Meadows Club sweet spots include relaxing under a tree in the shade at the pool, dining in the Auerbach dining room and lounge and the pickleball courts, Pilates studio and fitness center. 9

NAFTZGER FAMILY Ceasar & Michelle Naftzger Children: Christina; 17; John, 14 perfectfit 12
The Club is a place where we come to socialize, relax by the pool, work out and play tennis and pickleball. At WCC, we encounter families with the same values as us and we’re surrounded by people who enjoy the same activities. The fitness center allows us to escape from the mundane of life. We’re able to relax at the pool, play tennis and pickleball or simply work out with Vanessa. We also frequently enjoy dinners and brunches as a family and with friends. Cameron, Michael and Vanessa really make the fitness center feel like an extension of our home. They’re great with our kids Christina and John and really know how to talk to and interact with them. You can often see Cameron taking the time to just sit and talk with John about anything and everything (including the KC Chiefs). He really goes above and beyond the coach/player relationship. Vanessa takes the time to listen to you while pushing you to be your best even on the days when you have no energy or flat out don’t want to be there. “Vanessa takes the time to listen to you while pushing you to be your best. Even on the days when you have no energy or flat out don’t want to be there.” —Michelle Naftzger We have many sweet spots at the Club! We love dining in the Murra Room—preferably seated at one of the tables near the fireplace. It’s the perfect spot to sit on a cold day. On the tennis courts, John prefers court #2. It’s a spot that is not directly upfront but lets you see everything and everyone can still see you. He says he just feels comfortable being there. Caesar is not so picky about the pickleball courts. All courts are great as long as he’s out there playing. At the pool anywhere is sweet! It’s the perfect oasis to enjoy an early dinner or just relax. At the Fitness Center, anywhere Vanessa tells us to go! I really like working on the treadmills where I can watch tennis or working out on the ramp. Christina has a love-hate relationship with the stair climber and John loves the bench press and treadmills. Caesar likes the entire gym, from the cardio machines to the free weights. 13

FOOD & BEVERAGE We caught up with Chef Kurt to see what’s on his mind and what’s coming out of his kitchen. It’s never a good thing to engage him on a hungry stomach. Read more for a mouthwatering glimpse at the hot spots in WCC cuisine. What inspired all the new pizzas? We debuted grilled pizzas about seven years ago during our Round Up tournament. The golfers have always raved about them, and we have gotten a lot better at them and more creative. So I wanted to find a way to share them with all our members and not just once a year. My future goal is to somehow incorporate them in our everyday, à la carte menu. Cinnamon rolls have a pretty storied history at WCC. Tell us about making them great again. We have not given up and vow to keep at it until they are great again. I promise. What are the hottest trends in food prep and presentation this summer? The trends seem to revolve around healthier foods, like our new vegetable bowls and vegan dishes like our chili-glazed tofu that is a little adventurous and fun. Even the most hardened meat eaters can’t believe how much they love that. Why have street tacos become so popular in our culture? Street tacos are one of the summer food trends that just gets bigger every year. Their simplicity is appealing. Whether you build them with beef, pork, chicken or fish, you can’t go wrong. All of these choices make great tacos. And the unlimited, fresh summer toppings allow you to keep them healthy and creative. Is the kitchen doing anything different based on member feedback or requests? Everything we do here revolves around member feedback and experience. We constantly strive to create new dishes, menus, popup chef tables, poolside buffets and special member events. What is your sweet spot in the kitchen? I would have to say my sweet spot is stepping in to expedite service. It’s my chance to see all dishes going out. It’s my time to coach and teach my chefs and cooks. And it’s our last chance to put our stamp of excellence on each dish. 17
