SHADES OF GRACE by Pastor Don F. McMillan Years ago, I took an evening flight on Sun Country Airlines from Minneapolis to Phoenix. At some point during the flight, I began wondering if we l ’ be arriving in Phoenix, then looked at my watch. We were due to be there. Just then an announcement that ’ been in a holding pattern due to a heavy thunderstorm stalled right at the Phoenix airport; we were diverting to Tucson for fuel. Two hours late we arrived safely in Phoenix. It seems like ’ been in a very long “ l g ” But things feel like they are getting better. We have been very blessed here at Emmanuel, and blessings are already coming in 2021. Here are a few things I am excited about. CONFIRMATION – We have eight anticipated students for Confirmation this year. For some of them it has been a long time coming. Since Confirmation is one of my favorite things. The first lessons will be an overview of the Bible, memorizing the books of the Bible in order, and then we dive into the Ten Commandments that provide so much structure to our lives and world. I look forward to classes and getting to know these young people and their families better. BIBLE STUDY – Beginning Tuesday, February 2, at 10 am., we will have regular Bible Study. Our first study will be the book “Ambidextrous Christianity,” by Pastor Chris Brekke. This study deals with the paradoxes of being a Christian. Pastor Brekke is someone I have known since I was a teen, he spent his college summers doing youth ministry in our church, and was an incredible story teller, and had a funny story for every situation. Following this study, I am praying about a Bible book study again. LENT – We begin Lent on Wednesday, February 17. Like Advent, I will be doing a sermon series; For Lent we will consider the “I ” statements of Jesus, such as, “I am the Bread of L f ,” and “I am the Light of the l ” Join us Wednesday nights at 6:30 for worship. Soup suppers are at 5:30pm.
MISSION – Our Mission of the Month (MOM) ministry is one that delights my heart. It allows us to touch many people in some valued work. In the coming months we will be figuring out some of the future organizations that will benefit later in the year. Coming in February is H ’ Place here in Goodland, and March is Sky Ranch. If you have a suggestion for an organization, let a MOM committee member know. That would be Shelly, Marla, Dona, or me From 3 John, verse 2, “I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.” Pastor Don Thank You Thank you, my church family, for the get well wishes cards, the phone calls, and most of all, the prayers. Thank you, Pastor Don, for your phone calls and prayers. I’ home now and doing ok. God bless all of you. Mary Harper Dear church family, Thank you so much for the phone calls, texts, and prayers while I was in the hospital with Covid and pneumonia. Thank you, Pastor Don, for the phone call and prayer. I am so thankful for my church family. Thanks, Charlotte Thank you so very much for your recent donation to Genesis. Your support allows us to help people in our area who are in need. When each of us offers even a small kindness to a neighbor, it can become a very large blessing to the entire community. Sincerely, The Board of Genesis We would like to thank those who have continued to remember the church with offerings when they are not able to attend worship service. Your support is greatly appreciated! Offerings can be mailed to the church or you can donate online at www.elcgoodland.com/give. You can also donate through PayPal.com or Venmo.com to email address emmtreas@gmail.com.
