                                                                                                Matthew Collins gained an appreciation for the complexity within
                                                                                                construction while working in the plumbing industry. ‘I wanted
                                                                                                to learn the fundamentals and entirety of the construction
                                                                                                process from conception to completion of a project,’ he says.
                                                                                                ‘I decided to push myself to the next level and commence
                                                                                                a degree in construction management at Griffith.’ During
                                                                                                his degree, Matthew has found the group work beneficial
                                                                                                in preparing him for industry. ‘I’ve worked in team-based
                                                                                                environments just like I would in real construction projects,’
                                                                                                he says. ‘I’ve found the lecturers and tutorial staff to be
                                                                                                well-rounded industry professionals who are extremely
                                                                                                knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.’ Upon completion

                                                                                            Alison Butcher had been considering studying computer science
                                                                                            for 20 years when she took the leap and began a Bachelor of
                                                                                            Computer Science at Griffith University. The experience has
                                                                                            changed her life. ‘Before I started uni, I was in a bit of a rut and,
                                                                                            boy, did that change once I started studying at Griffith,’ she says.
                                                                                            Alison, who has previously worked as an industrial electrician,
                                                                                            aims to enter the entrepreneurial tech start-up scene upon
                                                                                            graduation. She says the professional network she has fostered
                                                                                            will help her succeed in that field. ‘What I have learnt at Griffith
                                                                                            has given me confidence in my abilities, and the connections I
                                                                                            have made mean I have a strong network to call on as my business
                                                                                            requires different skills and resources,’ she says.

                                                                                                    When Bachelor of Laws (graduate entry) students Yuri Banens
                                                                                                    and Ethan Barr-Hamilton first met, they had no idea they
                                                                                                    would embark on a successful partnership that would see
                                                                                                    them becoming Australia’s negotiation champions. They have
                                                                                                    forged a professional ease together over countless competitive
                                                                                                    negotiations at the state and national level, even being named
                                                                                                    as Australia’s top team at the 2019 Australian Law Student
                                                                                                    Association (ALSA) Negotiation Competition. ‘Griffith Law
                                                                                                    School and the Griffith Law Student Association have been
                                                                                                    incredibly supportive,’ they say. ‘We wouldn’t have been able
