WINTER 2021 DEAR FRIENDS, Winter is coming and we are here for YOU. Art making and being with a community of friends is known to reduce stress and anxiety and to combat isolation. We want you to find the best way to continue your creative work at home or at VAM so our team has put together a roster of wonderful opportunities for you. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES REFUNDS AND CREDITS: All cancellation refunds or credits are subject to a $30 administrative fee (+ HST where applicable). VAM will not provide refunds or credits for cancellations made after the specified cut-off date. • Magic Mondays, Online courses, Memberships, and Exhibition fees are non-refundable. • Course cancellations must be made by the customer no less than one week before the start date of the course. • VAM reserves the right to postpone or cancel programs for any reason. In the event that VAM postpones or cancels a paid program, students will be offered a refund, a credit, or the opportunity to transfer to another course of equivalent value if there is space available. There is no administrative fee applied to refunds or credits for programs cancelled by VAM. • VAM administration reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course one week prior to the start date due to insufficient registration. TRANSFERS: Transfers are possible only if there is space available and if the transfer is made no less than one week prior to the start date of the course. Transfers will not be made once the term has begun. There is a $30 administrative fee for transfers made less than one month before the course start date. AGE REQUIREMENTS: Children must be the age listed in course description when the course starts. VAM may request proof of age at any time. Children who are not the correct age for the program will be transferred to an appropriate group or removed from the program. Exceptions will not be made for students who do not meet the minimum age requirement. MAKE-UP CLASSES: Course start dates are listed on customer receipts. Students and parents should make note of their course start dates when they register. VAM does not provide credits, refunds, or makeup classes for students absent from regularly scheduled classes. AUDITING: Auditing or sitting in on any course for any reason is not permitted. Students may be asked to show proof of payment to the instructor at the first class. POLICY ON PHYSICAL AND/OR VERBAL AGGRESSION: VAM has a zero tolerance policy for violence and bullying. Students who display aggressive, harassing, hateful, violent, or otherwise disrespectful behaviour will be removed from programs at the discretion of the Executive Director or Program Development Manager. A refund for the balance of remaining classes will be issued. (Subject to the $30 administration fee) WEATHER RELATED CLOSURES: VAM does not contact students individually for weather-related closures. Closures are listed on the visualartsmississauga.com home page and on the voice message at 905-277-4313 two hours before the start of class. EXCEPTIONS: Requests for policy exceptions must be made by the customer in writing to info@visualartsmississauga.com as soon as a concern arises. All requests are subject to review and approval by VAM’s Program Development Manager and Executive Director. A D U LT C O U R S E I N F O R M AT I O N & L E V E L S Every VAM adult course is designed to offer new learning opportunities and a chance to develop or fine tune your artistic skills. Please select the level best suited to your own abilities and interest. If you are unsure, our office staff are happy to assist you in making your choice. Try It, You’ll Like It (TIYLI) sponsored by Curry’s Artists Materials – A variety of beginner and open level courses for students who wish to try something new or revisit a favourite art form without the worry of having to purchase or carry a lot of materials. All materials are provided for in-class use so costs to students are kept to a minimum. Beginner (B) courses are designed for students who have never taken an art class or are new to making art or to a specific medium (acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel). Beginner courses provide students with essential skills and knowledge that can be built upon in future courses. Intermediate (I) courses are ideal for students who have some experience in a specific medium and who are looking for direction towards progressive skill building. Prerequisite: Basic drawing and painting skills. Advanced (A) courses are designed for experienced students looking for an opportunity to continue their development in a supportive and encouraging environment. Some courses will provide instruction on specific techniques or support students in their exploration of new subject matter in order to expand their individual art practice. Prerequisite: Advanced drawing and painting experience. Open (O) courses are suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced. Studio (S) courses are for intermediate or advanced students who enjoy working on their own projects with guidance from an instructor. COURSE MATERIALS It is important to come prepared with the correct materials to succeed. Materials for adult courses are not included in courses unless specified so please find the Materials list on the course registration page or under the “Education” tab on our website or call the office. Adult students who wish to try a new art form without the worry of purchasing materials can look for the “Try It You’ll Like It” logo. TIYLI courses include all materials. A D U LT C O U R S E S AT V A M TUESDAYS PEN, INK AND WATERCOLOUR FOR ARCHITECTURE Juxtaposing dark ink lines with watercolour and washes, ink and watercolour have been used for many years to depict the uniqueness and beauty of manmade structures in rural and urban locations. In this course, we will look at the styles of artists past and present for inspiration and techniques, then with your own preferred subject, you will work toward creating a significant ink and watercolour architectural art piece. Prerequisite: some drawing and watercolour experience and the ability to conduct internet research between classes. Exercises will include editing photo reference images and cultivating imagination while playing with less traditional colour palettes and techniques.
