YPAM Fringe 2021 Registration Guide Updated on August 30 30/August/2021
What is YPAM? Established in 1995 as TPAM (Tokyo Performing Arts Market). In 2011, it moved the main venues to Yokohama and developed performance, exchange and open-call programs and gained international recognition as one of the most influential performing arts platforms in Asia that professionals from more than 40 countries get together. In the coming December 2021 to mark the 26th edition, TPAM will take a leap forward as YPAM (Yokohama International Performing Arts Meeting). YPAM will continue to embody our mission to support independent expressions of live performance and to make the city an epicenter of its creation and international dissemination. Organized by YPAM Executive Committee (Kanagawa Arts Foundation; Yokohama Arts Foundation; Japan Center, Parcific Basin Arts Communication | Co-organized by Culture and Tourism Bureau, City of Yokohama | Supported by The Saison Foundation and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan (fiscal year 2021) YPAM2021 will be held from Wednesday December 1st through Sunday 19th, 2021. What is YPAM Fringe? An open-call festival that invites registrations of performances and projects that are carried out in Yokohama and Tokyo during the period of YPAM. As an opportunity for promotion, it can be boosted by participating also in the exchange program of YPAM. There is no selection process, and it does not offer financial support. 2

Registration Fee Considering the current circumstances where no precise plan to ease the restrictions on entry to Japan has been announced, we regrettably assume that it will be unrealistic to expect international exchange in person as in previous editions of TPAM. Also, it is inevitable for all of us to be aware that a state of emergency can be declared or a new set of anti-infection measures can be put in force anytime, which critically affect our production plans. All this has led us to decide that this edition of YPAM Fringe will not charge a regular registration fee. On the other hand, at our departure as YPAM, the operation of newly-born YPAM Fringe depends entirely on a new registration/management system. We have been developing the system from scratch in order to enhance YPAM Fringe as a sustainable fringe festival that embraces diverse potentials. Thus, for the first edition of YPAM Fringe, we would like to ask for your participation in our crowdfunding campaign, which will be considered your registration fee payment. The fund will be used to develop the registration/manage- ment system and related infrastructures. ● You can decide how much to contribute (the minimum is 500 JPY). The price does not affect the values of the registration. ● If you plan to register more than 2 shows, please register them discretely. ● Please consult the YPAM Secretariat if you think of registering a project or small festival that involves multiple artists/companies. *The crowd-funding project page is open in Japanese only. Please contact the Secretariat for details. 6
Ticket Sales We will offer our online ticket system on the YPAM website. It used to be only for professional participants, but it will be available also to general audiences. It is not mandatory to use our system. More details on the ticket system will be announced soon. ● Tickets sales start in the late of October 2021. ● Allocation can be changed anytime upon your demand. ● We do not issue issue printed tickets. ● Handling fee is 4%. ● We will propose the most efficient payout method in accordance with the place you are based in. *Tickets will not be sold in person at the YPAM Information Desk during the event. *YPAM Secretariat will not handle any cancellation or change after purchase. *This service does not include ticket sales for digital showing. 7
Participating in YPAM Exchange YPAM Exchange is our exchange program for performing arts professionals. It will be held using an event platform “Swapcard“ in an in-person/virtual hybrid form. This platform offers various real-time networking functions, which enables you to connect with other YPAM participants wherever you/they are. Registration for YPAM allows you to access all the programs of YPAM Exchange. Moreover, you can introduce your show or promote your digital showing at YPAM Fringe Center and exhibit video materials on Swapcard. * You cannot charge for your works at YPAM Exchange. The video materials exhibited at Swapcard will be available to the YPAM participants for free during the YPAM period. Please utilize it as one of the promotion tools. * Your video should be recorded in advance with full length and submitted via YouTube or Vimeo. If the Japanese market is of your main interest, we would recommend preparing for Japanese synopsis. * Exhibition of video materials and digital showings in YPAM Exchange will not be included in the listing of YPAM Fringe (program brochure and website), and we do not handle ticket sales for them. ● Registration: Please register for YPAM (as an exhibitor or meeting host if you wish) on the YPAM website. ● Registration is planned to start in early October. ● YPAM Registration fee : 5,000 JPY Exhibitor fee : 30,000 JPY (The half-price discount will be applied for YPAM Fringe participants). 8
FAQ Q Does YPAM Secretariat offer coordination with venues? A YPAM Secretariat will provide information of the venues used in the past editions of TPAM, but you need to negotiate directly with each venue. Please refer to the archived TPAM websites for the lists of venues and shows in the past. (please note that our Fringe program was called “TPAM Showcase“ until 2016). *If you are interested in Akaikutsu Theater, BankART Station or BankART KAIKO, please contact YPAM Secretariat first instead of the venues. *Please note that we do not offer support in management and production design. Q Our venue is in Kanagawa Prefecture, but not in the City of Yokohama. Can we register our show? A Yes, for this edition of YPAM Fringe, we accept registration of a show at a venue outside of the City as far as it is in the Prefecture. Q Does YPAM Secretariat offer support in designing information of the show or translating it? A Upon your request, we are happy to offer consultation about designing the information and to introduce some affordable translation services (please kindly note that we cannot proofread the translation). Q Can a show that has already been registered for YPAM Fringe be transferred to a digital showing, in inevitable circumstances like a state of emergency? A For the registered Fringe shows, we will make every effort to be flexible in such unforeseen situations. 9
