Six members and three guests attended, including Mrs. Eugene Shreve and Candidate Cole Palen of Palenville, who came all the way from Rochester for the second year in a row. In February we shared Washington's Birthday festivities and speeches with nearly two dozen genealogical/historical organizations at the Cleveland Skating Club. Our March program was presented by a descendant of the Massachusetts Mather family telling tales of the five Colonial Mather brothers. A month later our featured guest spoke on the birth and early development of our nation. Societies in Formation while OFPA has had representation in colorado, Tennessee, and South Carolina for a long time, the Order has yet to establish a Society in those States, and over the course of the past several years, there has been a growing interest among Associates living there to have us do so. During his term in office, PGG Bob vivian appointed Associate Jon Franchino (MA), a resident of Denver, to the position of organizing Governor for the colorado Society in formation and Associate Stewart whittle (MD), organizing Governor for the Tennessee Society in formation. Dr. Thomas M. ("Tommy") Leland (who resides in charleston, SC) was appointed organizing Governor for the South Carolina Society in formation. All three men have been working hard to establish societies in their respective states. The first "official" activity in Tennessee took place recently in Knoxville, when col. Jack westbrook, a long-time resident and member of the vA Society (he is also councillor General of our soon-to-be Tennessee Society) presented the Order's AFROTC Award to the Outstanding Cadet at the University of rennessee-Knoxville to Cadet Michael A. Thornbury. Jack made the presentation on behalf of the Tennessee Society in formation. This was the first OPFAAward ever presented in Tennessee. The organizing Governors for the co, SC, and TN societies can be reached as follows: Jon Franchino (Co) jonjan3@comcast.net (303) 759-B2a; Tommy Leland (SC) tmleland@juno.com (843) 722-7333; Stewart whittle (TN) InfoVerger@aolrcom (443) 662-8789. (See p.38 for their contact information.) Govemor General Mike Phelps will be in Denver in September and plans to have a luncheon meeting there with interested Associates and candidates. The meeting will be hosted by the Denver Branch of the National Society Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims so it will be a large group, and we hope, some of the Sons will be interested and qualify for oFpA. David Elwell and Bob Baxter, were key players in getting the award components to us on time. Though small in number, we have much gratitude for the timely efforts of the General Officers'on our behalf. Dr. Leland has been a fireball of energy in his actitivies to organize a new Society in South Carolina and has used his extensive contacts in that State with the Society of Colonial Wars and other lineage groups to recruit new members for OFPA. He also has coordinated with Webmaster Stephen p. Shaw to obtain contact information for prospective Associates who reside in South Carolina and who have sent inquiries via the website. Tommy has contacted each of those men and is assisting them with their membership applications. He also has arranged for an initial informal meeting of current and prospective Associates and expects to be able to be ready for approval of the proposed new SC Society at the May 2007 General Court. 25
