THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER - April 18, 2021 - Divine Mercy
ADULT FORMATION

Take the next step in your faith journey this Spring!
              Starts This Week!
                 Grounded in Faith
A series of conversations based on the concept of
discipleship. All are welcome. If you’re looking for a place
to start, or you’ve been on the Alpha journey and
want to go deeper, this course is for you.

Grounded in Faith is an informative, no-pressure series where you can
come as you are, meet some new friends, and get some of those burning questions answered. The most important
part of Grounded in Faith is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the weekly topic, and discuss it in a small
group. It’s an opportunity to hear from others, and contribute your own perspective in an honest and open
environment.
What it is:
An 5 part series that explores the foundational elements and core concepts of discipleship. We will dive into topics
like building a personal relationship with Jesus, letting Him take you from good to great, dealing with mistakes and
regret, cultivating a deeper relationship with God through prayer, and more!
When:
Choose an evening or a morning session: Thursday Evenings 7-8:15 PM beginning April 22nd or Friday Mornings
9:30 – 10:45 AM beginning April 23rd. Runs for 5 weeks.

Invite a friend and attend together if you like!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED MAKE OUR HOLY WEEK AND EASTER LITURGIES SO SPECIAL!
A special shout out of thanks to everyone who contributed their talents to create a beautiful environment for our liturgies in the
past week, especially Ron Vanasdlen, Tanya Scandariato, Mary and Maureen Claps, Suzy Trott, and Jim Dietz.

We’d also like to thank our team of greeters and ushers, coordinated by Sue Lehocky and Michelle Wasielewski, who helped
with the 11 liturgies of Holy Week and Easter! We could not have welcomed so many parishioners without your devoted service
to Divine Mercy.

We were also blessed with Tom Carroll, Mary Newton, and Ludy Mariano assisting as servers, with Kathy Janega as Master of
Ceremonies.

Our music ministry: Violin: Nina Saito, Linda Veleckis Mussbaum; Viola: Jessica Lipon; Cello: William Cernota; Percussion: Brent
Roman; Cantors: Jenny Farney (Holy Thursday and Easter Morning at St. Philip); Andrew Dahan (Good Friday, 3 p.m. and Easter
Morning Pianist at St. Philip); Carla LaMarr (Good Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart), Micah Dingler (Easter Vigil); Kevin
Siembor, Easter Vigil and Easter Morning at Sacred Heart; and Sarah Cozzi, Easter Morning for Masses in the school gym.

Many thanks to our live-stream team (Tony Sarch and Jon Comstock), and maintenance staff (Alex Hodge, Tony Sarch and
Carlos Santillan) who enable us to host each liturgy by preparing our space and sanitizing each location after every liturgy.

Profound thanks to you all, and God bless the good work that you do for Divine Mercy Parish!

A Special Mass to Prepare Our Confimandi
Plus a Final Lunch for the Homeless Delivered
We held a very special Mass for our Confirmation candidates last Sunday to prepare them for
their upcoming sacrament. Many thanks go to Father Dan Cassidy for celebrating the Mass,
to Isabel Hernandez for sharing her beautiful voice, to pianist Sarah Cozzi for accompanying her,
to Ron Vanasdlen for planning our liturgy and to our great lectors: Sullivan Pierre,
Caidyn Lowry and Liliana Amador. We are ready! Please keep the Confirmation candidates
in your prayers as they continue their faith journey.

Total number of lunches delivered to
Connections for the Homeless this year is more
than 1,200. Each individually bagged lunch
included a sandwich, fruit, snack, drink and
note of encouragement. One client was tearful
Sunday when the lunches arrived, reading the
note and saying, “This is just what I need to
continue on.” As Maureen Valvassori, Director

their bodies and their souls.” Thank you to all
of our 8th graders, their families and especially
to Claudia Goodrich for coordinating the effort
and to the parent volunteers who helped deliver.
                                        You made a difference!

8th grade wrapped up their
chemistry unit with two very
cool experiments demonstrating
how chemical reactions produce
new substances. The 1st was a
demonstration by Mrs. Mack called elephant's toothpaste. When we mixed
our compounds they produced a new foamy substance that shot out of our
flask creating a rather messy compound that resembles the toothpaste that
an elephant might use to brush it's tusks. In the second reaction, students
mixed two polymers that resembled honey and pancake syrup to produce
their "foam gnomes". Both experiments were a terrific way for students to
see chemical reactions creating new substances.
