      ART
Children will have hands-on experiences with drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Instructor
Thelma Zabel’s specialty is welcoming children to the joy of creating by starting each art class with a
children’s book or a famous work of art as a motivation. Projects emphasize using the elements of art
to create uniquely individual pieces. Over the years she has taught and directed programs for children
as well as instructing teachers in methods of instruction including art, literature, and movement
embedded in the curriculum. Bring an old shirt or smock because creating can be a messy endeavor.

Children will experience the foundations of dance, including introductions to ballet and modern
dance techniques. Rhythm and music as well as creative activities will keep us flowing in an inclusive
and fun class. Children will explore and expand movement skills and listening skills while working
together and tapping into creativity. With many years of teaching, directing and choreographing, Ms.
Maurine Taufer is a warm and welcoming instructor who aims to instill a love of dance and movement
while helping children improve skill and increase confidence and artistic expression. Children should
plan on either ballet shoes or bare feet....socks or footed tights are too slippery on the floor.

Find the fire in your writing: from practicing with 10 minutes of free writing to creating setting,
characters, and story line, students will discuss, write, and then revise. We will tackle topics such as
what makes interesting, strong, clear, and effective writing; what makes for boring writing; and what
makes a story (fiction or non) engaging, meaningful, and memorable. Students will share samples of
writing from favorite selections and samples of their own writing. The heart of writing is in re-writing,
re-vising...and reading! The last hour of class, Instructor will schedule one on one time to discuss,
review and critique some of your writing samples. Instructor Nancy Bo Flood’s books include both
fiction and nonfiction, and her publications have received numerous national awards.
