Community Grants Guide

Welcome!
We hope you will find some interesting grants here. If you are looking
for something different, don’t forget to check out the last few pages of
this newsletter and the City of Belmont website for more ideas.
Lotterywest is holding Grants Information Sessions throughout the year
- this is a great way to find out about the many different grants on offer.
You are also welcome to phone the City’s Grants and Business

Sport4Everyone - Australian Sports Foundation
Sport4Everyone is an initiative of the Giving for Grassroots program that funds projects to help increase
participation in grassroots and community sport across Australia through small grants.
Sport4Everyone is generously supported by Australia Post and provides grants of up to $10,000 for projects
and activities that create diverse, welcoming and inclusive sporting environments. The grants are to help
individuals and communities to connect through sport, regardless of background or ability.
Examples of the types of projects that are eligible for funding are:
Specific competitions focused on eligible groups under the inclusive and diverse category
Events to increase interest and engagement
Funds to cover registration and playing costs
Clinics and training programs
Community events to encourage family involvement
Accessible facilities and equipment
Buses and transport to enable remote or non-driving groups to participate
Who can apply? Grassroots clubs, groups and organisations; Public Schools; and Local Councils.
To be eligible projects or activities must take place within 12 months of the funds being granted.

A Churchill Fellowship offers ordinary Australians the opportunity to travel overseas to investigate a topic or an
issue that they are passionate about.
It is for anyone who, after examining alternatives within Australia, would now like to see what other countries
are doing successfully in a similar space so as to inspire new ideas and innovation.
The high international regard for Churchill Fellowships provides a pathway for Churchill Fellows to access
expertise from around the world that is not typically available to everyone, thereby expanding their knowledge
and experience for the benefit of Australian society.
To be eligible to apply for a Churchill Fellowship you
must:
be an Australian Citizen over the age of 18;
not be enrolled in tertiary studies directly related to the
topic of your proposed project;
have experience in and commitment to the field of
your project;
have a project that requires overseas investigation;
be available to travel for 4 to 8 weeks between
February 2019 and January 2020; and
be willing to share Fellowship findings with the
broader Australian community.
There is a high level of visibility and credibility associated with being a Churchill Fellow. No prescribed
qualifications are required in order for you to apply and the subject of your proposed project is limitless
provided a benefit to Australia is evident and a willingness to share the knowledge gained is displayed.
100 Fellowships are available for award in 2018.

Grants for Women - Department of Local Government and Communities
Grants of up to $10,000 are available for local governments and community service organisations to
implement projects that focus on addressing the unique issues faced by women.
Funding of up to $5,000 is available for one-off activities or initiatives, with a duration of up to six months, that
contribute to the program's priority areas.
Funding of up to $10,000 is available for longer term (over six months), strategic initiatives involving a range of
partners that will contribute to creating sustainable or systemic change in the program's priority areas.
Projects should address one or more of the following project priority areas:
Women's economic independence
Women in leadership
Women's Consultative Fora Outcomes.
Funding may be used for:
Transport & equipment/venue hire
Publication costs of material created through the project
Resource materials & consumable items
Marketing costs
Child care for the children of women participants.

Closes: 30 June 2018.With One Voice Community Choir Grants - Creativity Australia
Creativity Australia, a registered charity, is offering a limited number of Start-up Grants for communities to start
their own With One Voice choir as a Social Franchise in their local community.
This is an opportunity to create real connections between the diverse people in a community by reaching out to
those who are experiencing disadvantage and encouraging the socially advantaged in our community to engage
with, learn from and help these people.
Local community groups, social businesses and not-for-profits wanting to promote social inclusion and tackle
loneliness, isolation and disadvantage in their community are invited to apply.
Creativity Australia has created a series of How To Guides, videos and resources to assist any local
community establish a With One Voice choir
Successful applicants will demonstrate a clear understanding of the
With One Voice model, have already initiated the idea of starting a
program in their community and have a small group of interested
people who will support the program.
$10,000 start-up grants are available.

Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups - Australia Council for the Arts
The Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups program funds a range of activities that deliver benefits to the arts
sector and wider public, including national and international audiences.
Individuals and groups may apply for grants from $10,000 to $50,000 for activities lasting no longer than three
years. Applicants must be:
A practicing artist or
An arts worker and
An Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident.
Funding can be used for:
The creation of new work Productions
Practice based research Exhibitions
Creative development Performances
Experimentation Publishing
Collaborations Recording
Touring Promotion and Marketing
Festivals Market development activity
The Australia Council grants program supports a diverse range of artists,
organisations, artistic practice and arts activities.
Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artists and Artists
with Disability are encouraged and applications are accepted in Languages
Other Than English.

3Community Heritage Grants - National Library of Australia
The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program aims to identify Australian cultural heritage collections which
are publicly accessible, locally held and nationally significant. Cash grants of up to $15,000 (incl. GST) are
provided to assist in the preservation and access to these collections. Organisations may apply for more than
one project provided the combined annual value is no more than $15,000 (incl. GST), and all projects can be
completed within one year.
All not-for-profit, incorporated organisation are eligible to apply providing they:
own or manage a collection of nationally significant material; and
are accessible to the general public.
Funded organisations must make their collections accessible for research, by
appointment, via the Internet, or on temporary or permanent exhibition.
Examples of not-for-profit, incorporated organisations which are encouraged to apply are:
Archives Indigenous groups
Art galleries Migrant community groups
Community groups Museums
Genealogical societies Professional associations
Historical societies Religious groups
Projects will be funded under two categories:
Collection Preservation Projects - these projects follow a 3 step process. Includes Software Purchases.
Training Projects

CSIRO Kick-Start Funding
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s (CSIRO) Kick-Start program is a new
initiative for innovative Australian start-ups and small SMEs and provides funding support, and access to
CSIRO’s research expertise and capabilities, to help businesses grow and develop.
Eligible companies with a turnover or operating expenditure of less than $1.5 million, may be able to access
CSIRO Kick-Start funds between $10,000 and $50,000 (matched dollar-for-dollar to the company cash
contribution) to assist in accessing CSIRO research capability.
Funding can be used for:
Research into a new idea with commercial potential
Development of a novel or improved product or process
Testing a novel product or material developed by the business
Furthermore, the experienced SME Connect team works alongside businesses to identify the relevant research
capabilities best suited to their needs, and facilitates researcher introductions and project scoping.

Healthway Sponsorships for incorporated organisations for arts, sport or
racing events and activities that encourage healthy lifestyles.
Department of Culture and the Arts Offers a range of funding programs to WA artists, musicians,
designers, communities and organisations.
Australia Council for the Arts Grants available to practicing professional Australian artists or
arts workers, individuals, groups or organisations. Includes
music, literature, theatre, dance and producers.
COMMUNITY
City of Belmont Community Contribution Fund - Grants of up to $5,000 for
community projects and initiatives. Two rounds per year.

Aboriginal Benefits Foundation Grants to assist Aboriginal communities and individuals with a

Week WA, Thank a Volunteer Day, Grants for Women and

Westpac Foundation Check the eligibility criteria carefully. For some, your
organisation needs to have DGR status or be endorsed as a Tax
Bankwest Easy Grants Concession Charity.

Department of the Environment Some community funding including Landcare grants for
groups and individuals.
State NRM Office Funding for natural resource management.
Lotterywest & Department of Sport and Grants support planning, developing and promoting trails such
Recreation - Trails as walking, cycling, horse riding and paddling routes.
Lotterywest – Heritage and Conservation Grants support conservation of natural habitats and
maintenance of the diversity of animal and plant species.
Waste Authority Community grants scheme supports small scale community
projects that improve the management of waste in WA.

National Library of Australia Community Heritage Grants to assist with the preservation of
locally owned, but nationally significant collections.
Department of the Environment and Energy Heritage grants and funding.
Heritage Council - State Heritage Office Assists private owners of State Registered places to
undertake urgent conservation works.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs Grant program supports the preservation of our wartime
heritage.
HEALTH
Bupa Health Foundation Foundation Grants Program interested in funding innovative
health interventions and projects.
Healthway Funding for projects that promote health or prevent illness in
the community.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs Grants for veterans and the wider community to participate in,
and benefit from, projects supporting healthy lifestyles and
