Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time | February 9, 2020 3Mid-Year Financial Report
to Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Parishioners
February 2020
The financial “portrait” of our parish has been changing, for the better, in the first half of
fiscal year 2019-2020. Here is a brief history of our loans, and our current position:
Over the years we have been able to purchase the land and build the beautiful buildings we have on our
parish campus where we pray, teach our faith and serve those who come to us in need. We are truly
blessed by our loving God for the opportunities we have as we minister to those who come to the southeast
corner of Olive Branch and Mullinix Roads. Our buildings and property are inviting and welcoming, providing
a place of refreshment and peace. Except for the building of our Harvest Food Pantry which was funded
directly by parishioner donations, all of our land and the other buildings were made possible through
parishioner donations and loans from the Archdiocese.
In 2013 the parish was permitted to consolidate the loans that had been incurred since the beginning of the
parish in 1993 into two loans: a fixed percentage rate loan and a variable rate loan. From April 30, 2013
through January 31, 2041 (27 years and 9 months) our fixed percentage rate loan principal is
$4,727,325.19, with the interest on the life of the loan being $5,007,501.59—a total of $9,734,826.68.
For the same time period, our variable rate loan principal is $4,707,705.79 and the interest on the life of
the loan being $2,883,377.49—a total of $7,591,083.28. The total principal and interest for these two
renegotiated loans is $17,325,909.96.
Our third variable rate loan for our Early Childhood Ministry Building began on November 30, 2015, with a
final payment to be made on November 30, 2025. The loan was for $1,365,446.55, and the interest on the
life of the loan being $296,769.75—a total of $1,662,216.30.
With gratitude to our generous parishioners who have given to the Walking in Christ’s Footsteps campaign
the past three years, we have been able to pay off a short term advance loan of $350,000.00, and saved
$500,000.00 for our rainy day fund. As of the end of January 2020 we have $386,744.69 available to
make a substantial payment toward our loans, with another approximately $20,000.00 from parishioner
pledges and matching funds from corporations expected to be received in the next few months.
On January 14, 2020 our parish finance council met to discuss proposals to the Archdiocesan Finance
Office (our loans are held in the Archdiocesan Deposit and Loan Fund). Chris Ryker (parish finance council
chairperson), Charlie Wills (parish business manager) and Father Giannini (pastor) met with Stacy Harris
(Archdiocesan Director of Financial Analysis) and presented our proposal. Mrs. Harris took our proposal to
the Archdiocesan Finance staff and to Monsignor William Stumpf, Vicar General. We are glad to announce
that they have accepted our proposal, which follows:
Our parish will make a $400,000.00 payment towards the principal of our Early Childhood Ministry loan
in June 2020. This will allow us to shorten the length of the loan, with the final payment being made on
February 28, 2023. Our savings in interest will be $65,425.35. Our monthly total loan payment for all three
loans will be reduced from $65,727.51 to $51,873.98, freeing up $13,853.53 each month for our parish
ministries from March 2023 to November 2025.
Again, we are grateful to our generous donors through the Walking in Christ’s Footsteps campaign, the
Archdiocesan and Parish leaders who have guided this process, and most of all to our God who is all good,
and deserving of all our love.
