Dana Van Slyke, Music Director Dana Van Slyke has served as the Director of Choirs at Herndon High School (HHS) for the past 22 years. Under her direction, the HHS Choir program has performed up and down the East Coast in many important venues like the White House; Riverside Church and St. John the Divine Cathedral, NYC; Wolftrap; University of MD; Tennessee State University; George Mason University; Belmont University; Myrtle Beach; and Disney World, to mention a few. The Choirs of HHS have performed at the Virginia Music Educators State Conference twice. They have also received superior ratings consistently at their state assessments and their festivals and competitions. In 2004, Ms. Van Slyke was an FCPS Teacher of the Year Nominee, and, in 2006, she was the Herndon Optimist Partner in Education teacher award recipient. Also, in 2010, she received the Wolf Trap Foundation Scholarship for Performing Arts Teachers. Ms. Van Slyke has been the musical director for over 38 productions during her time at HHS. She has also served as the musical director for the Herndon Summer Grand, Reston Commu- nity Players, and NextStop Children’s Theatre. She served as a guest conductor for the LCPS All County Choir festival and as a Guest Adjudicator for Heritage Festivals. Additionally, along with her husband Jim, Ms. Van Slyke creates, directs, and choreographs the HHS Broadway Cabaret production that is an annual review. This came into being in 1996 and has been a mainstage musical theatre production at Herndon ever since. Ms. Van Slyke received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in Music Education and Vocal Performance. She holds her MME degree from Shenandoah Conservatory. Jeremy Shoop, Pit Orchestra Conductor Jeremy Shoop is the Director of Music Ministries at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Herndon, VA, where he serves as organist, directs the adult and children’s choirs, handbell choirs, and children’s chime choir. Mr. Shoop graduated in 2005 from Susquehanna University with a B.M. in Music Performance (Organ). As one of the Directors of the Herndon Ecumenical Choir, he has taken the group on tour through Europe, performing in venues such as La Sagrada Familía (Barcelona, Spain), St. Peter’s Basilica (Vatican City, Italy), and St Patrick’s Cathedral (Dublin, Ireland). Mr. Shoop is an active soloist and has been featured on organ with the Reston Commu- nity Orchestra. He also serves as pianist for local choirs/ensembles such as the Herndon Middle School Choir and the Sterling Playmakers cabaret ensemble, On That Note. Mr. Shoop has conducted the pit for multiple Herndon High School productions, to include Willy Wonka, Into the Woods, and The Little Mermaid.
Evan Hoffmann, Theatrical Consultant Evan Hoffmann is a professional actor and director who has worked exten- sively in the DC area, as well as nationally and internationally. At NextStop, he has di- rected Catch Me If You Can, City of Angels, Deathtrap, The Secret Garden, Gutenberg! The Musical, Miss Electricity, Into the Woods, The 39 Steps, Caroline, or Change, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Metamorphoses. His other local professional credits include work with Signature Theatre, Ford’s Theater, American Century Theatre, Roundhouse Theatre, Imagination Stage, Olney Theatre Center, Centerstage in Baltimore, Encore Stage and Studios, and Toby’s Dinner Theatre, among others. Mr. Hoffmann toured with the American Shakespeare Center Repertory Company, performing the title role in Henry V. Mr. Hoffmann graduated from Herndon High School and was the first recipient of the award for outstanding actor in a musical at the inaugural Washington, DC Area Cappies Awards. He received his bachelor’s degree in Theatre from the College of William and Mary. In 2009, Mr. Hoffmann was named as an International Fellow at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Justin Streletez, Pianist Justin Streletz was born and raised in Chambersburg, PA. He received his Bachelor of Music Education with a focus in Piano at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2015. Justin studied piano with Dr. Patricia Powell. Currently living in Manassas, VA, he teaches Elementary Music in Loudoun County Public Schools. Justin also serves as the Pianist and Organist at First United Pres- byterian Church of Dale City in Woodbridge, VA. Justin is in- volved with various theatre groups and choral festivals through- out Northern Virginia. Last summer, he participated in AlpenKammerMusik, an intense two week chamber music festival in Austria. Carolyn Burke, Choreographer Carolyn Burke is excited to return to Herndon High after choreographing Guys and Dolls in 2017 and show choir! Cast, Tech, Crew, & Pit Orchestra Biographies Cara Ainge - Junior - Liesel Cara is absolutely thrilled to play her dream role of Liesl in her very favorite musical, which is her fifth Herndon High School (HHS) theatre production. She previously ap- peared as Allana in The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel in Into The Woods. She thanks her friends and family for their everlasting love and support as well as cast members and stage partners for being such amazing people with whom to work. Although she wishes she could stay “16 going on 17” forever, she hopes this show becomes one of your “favorite things” and that you’ll never want to say “so long, farewell”. Carlos Avelar - Junior - Sound Design Team Member This is Carlos’ first show, and Carlos is very excited to see the end result. He thanks Gigi for always being so supportive! Rose Bailey - Senior - Assistant Director Rose is enjoying directing The Sound of Music. Earlier this year, she played Agnes in She Kills Monsters. She is a captain of the HHS Improv Team, and she is super proud of her team members! She is also part of the teen improv troupe, the Unruly Theatre Project. Yasha Barth - Junior - Orchestra Member/Violin This is Yasha’s third musical and fourth theatrical production, having previously been in the pit for Willy Wonka, The Little Mermaid, and The Inspector General. He gives special thanks to his family, Mr. Shoop, the theatre department, and everyone who helped bring this show together!! He hopes this musical becomes “one of your favorite things”! Rachel Benfield - Senior - Assistant Stage Manager, Dramaturg The Sound of Music is Rachel’s sixth and final mainstage production at HHS. Rachel thanks her family and friends for supporting her throughout this four-year endeavor. She also thanks the theatre department for providing her a place to explore and evolve. Zoey Birman - Junior - Orchestra Member/Acoustic Guitar Although this is her fifth pit orchestra performance with HHS, it’s the first time that Zoey has performed guitar with the pit. She thanks the rest of the pit for putting up with all of her missed notes in rehearsals and hopes you enjoy the show now that she has practiced. Monya Biro - Junior - Ensemble Member This is Monya’s third show at HHS. Monya gives special thanks to Ms. Van Slyke and the rest of the sister squad for all their love and laughs. She also thanks her parents. Now, if only they could get her a car to make travel to and from rehearsal easier…. Taylor Brokesh - Junior - Ensemble Member Taylor is so excited to welcome you to The Sound of Music, which is her fourth HHS show. She thanks her family and friends for their consistently positive support. Leah Brown - Sophomore - Ensemble Member This is Leah’s second production at HHS. Leah was in the HHS Cabaret last January. She thanks everyone who helped out with the show, and she hopes you enjoy it!

Cast, Tech, Crew, & Pit Orchestra Biographies Alexis Cajayon - Sophomore - Ensemble Member Alexis is thrilled to be part of The Sound of Music. This is her first show. She is thankful for her family’s support and for the directors’ hard work in putting the show together. Claire Callaway - Freshman - Marta Claire is super excited to be able to perform in The Sound of Music. She has been in a few plays, one of them being the HHS production of She Kills Monsters. She thanks her mother, because she knows that it’s super hard for her mother, a teacher, to get Claire from rehearsal on time. Emileigh Callow - Junior - Run Crew Member Having begun working as a run crew member for the children's production, Alice in Fun- kyland, Emileigh is very excited to be a part of the behind-the-scenes experience. She thanks the directors for welcoming her as part of the show, and she also thanks her family and friends for their support. Emileigh looks forward to working on future productions. Gabriel Carrillo - Junior - Franz Having begun performing in elementary school, Gabriel now is a part of the HHS Show Choir and Madrigals. He started acting during his freshman year. Ever since then, he has played characters ranging from a tree to a Candy Man. He thanks his friends and family for being there for him. He hopes you all enjoy his performance, and he hopes you'll get to see him next year for his last performance(s) as a senior. Eamon Clark - Junior - Ensemble Member Eamon thanks Ms. Van Slyke, the theatre department, and his family for their sup- port. Eamon enjoys movies and musical theatre. This is Eamon’s first production at HHS, and he loves working with everyone in the cast and crew. Shelby Clegg - Junior - Sister Berthe Shelby thanks her family members for their constant support and love. She also thanks Ms. Van Slyke and the theatre department for their encouragement and guidance throughout the entire process. This will be Shelby's third musical, with the first two be- ing Into the Woods and Guys and Dolls. Hannah Clements - Freshman - Brigitta Hannah is thrilled to be playing Brigitta and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing production! After her first role as Tiger Lily in Peter Pan, she was “hooked” on theatre! She thanks her Grandma Diane, mother, father, and little brother, Jack. Kaitlyn Cleverly - Senior - Mother Abbess Kaitlyn thanks her family for allowing her to do this since she doesn’t exactly live close to the school. She is so excited to play this role, and she can’t wait to perform it on stage! Jake Cuppernull - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Baritone "This is Jake's third performance with the Herndon Drama department. He played in the pit orchestra for Into the Woods and The Little Mermaid and is very excited to be playing in the pit for The Sound of Music.

Brianna Detter - Freshman - Orchestra Member/Violin Brianna has been playing the violin for six years, and The Sound of Music is her first musi- cal theatre production. She thanks her mother for always supporting her. Ricky Dodson - Freshman - Run Crew Member As this is only his second show ever, working on the run crew is new to Ricky. He looks forward to helping with more shows in the future. He thanks his mother for telling him to do what he loves. Katie Evans - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Trombone Katie has been playing trombone for six years and is a proud member of the Pride of Herndon Band. The Sound of Music is her first musical. She thanks her band director, Ms. Jacoby, her parents, and her sister, Laura, for always supporting her. Samantha Fast - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Trombone Samantha is really excited to be playing in her first production with such a great cast. Ronan Floyd - Sophomore - Sound Design Team Although Ronan is only in his first year in public school and technical theatre, The Sound of Music is his fourth production in sound design and sure to be a good one. In his free time, Ronan enjoys video games, taekwondo, and chillin’ with friends. Shannon Fowler - Junior - Baroness Elberfeld Shannon is so excited to be doing The Sound of Music this year! Previously, she performed the roles of Little Red in Into the Woods and Margot in The Diary Of Anne Frank. The Sound of Music is her eleventh theatre production. She thanks her parents, the directors, cast, and crew for their continuous support and love. She hopes you enjoy the show! Shelby Fullerton - Junior - Ensemble Member, Choreographer This is Shelby's third show at HHS. Shelby is very excited to be a part of this production with some of her best friends. She thanks her friends and family for their support and Ms. Van Slyke for helping her grow musically. She hopes you enjoy the show. Celeste Gardy - Senior - Hair and Makeup Designer Celeste is sad that this is her very last show with HHS Theatre. She has had an amazing experience in the brief time she has worked with the program. Kate Grover - Junior - Frau Schmidt Kate wants everyone to know that the hills are in fact alive with the sound of music—and lime flavored Red Bulls.
Cast, Tech, Crew, & Pit Orchestra Biographies Kelly Grover - Freshman - Ursula Kelly hopes that you all are alive with the sound of music and that you enjoy the show! (Even you; you know who you are.) Abby Hall - Freshman - Ensemble Member This is Abby’s third HHS show. Abby thanks her family and friends for always being there for her. She has had lots of fun being part of The Sound of Music. Danny Hale - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Percussion Danny is happy to add The Sound of Music to his performing arts resume. Emma Harris - Freshman - Louisa Emma is thrilled to be playing the role of Louisa in the HHS production of The Sound of Music! Some of her previous roles include Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz), and Mufasa (The Lion King JR). Emma thanks her friends and family for being so incredibly loving and supportive! Gisselle “Gigi” Henriquez - Senior - Stage Manager While Gigi usually begins her bios by stating the number of HHS shows (12) in which she has participated, now it’s time to say that this is her last. She thanks all of the cast and crew members who gave her a reason to keep coming back for more. She thanks Hern- don Theatre for an experience that has shaped her into who she is and who she will be. Donald “Trace” Hollenbeck III - Senior - Captain Georg von Trapp After playing comedic roles in The Inspector General, Into the Woods, and Twelfth Night, for which he received a Cappies nomination, Trace finds this production is giving him the chance to stretch his dramatic abilities. He is thankful to God for the friends and family who supported him through his last production at HHS. Izzi Hollenbeck - Sophomore - Ensemble Member, Choreographer, Costume Team Member Izzi thanks her family and friends for keeping her sane during this process. She also gives a huge “thank you” to Ms. Shaw and Ms. Valido for all of the costume help! (Also, Robert Irwin because he’s precious.) Tamiko “Tami” Hood - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Flute This is Tami’s first pit performance, and she loves playing all of the memorable melodies and tunes. She thanks Ms. Jacoby and her parents for inspiring her to keep playing music and to never forget how talented she is. Grace Horner - Sophomore - Graphic Designer While Grace has performed in many productions, this year is her first working behind the scenes as a graphic designer. She thanks all of the amazing techies for working really hard to make the show run as smoothly as it does, and she gives special thanks to her family for supporting her throughout this whole process.
Cast, Tech, Crew, & Pit Orchestra Biographies Laura Jamborsky - Sophomore - Orchestra Member/Flute Laura loves playing piccolo and flute. This will be her second production, the other being The Little Mermaid. Everyone she encounters is so enjoyable, and this truly makes The Sound of Music an amazing production in which to participate. Claire Jones - Freshman - Costume Team Member As a freshman, this is Claire’s first time working on a major production. Outside of school, Claire is an active Girl Scout and an equestrian team member. She feels that sup- porting The Sound of Music has been a great opportunity. She can’t wait to help with fu- ture productions! Will Keppel - Freshman - Ensemble Member Will enjoys being a part of the fun that happens around the drama group. His parents are responsible for any and all responsibility. Tim Koskulitz - Senior - Run Crew Member Tim is enjoying being a part of The Sound of Music as well as making many memories doing theatre for the past four years. He thanks Ms. Van Slyke, the theatre department, and all of the cast and crew for making this show fantastic. Cristian Bonilla Lainez - Senior - Admiral von Schrieber Cristian is excited to be a senior and to be in his twelfth show at HHS. He thanks his fam- ily, spectacular friends, and mentors for guiding his love of theatre and making him the person he is today. Theatre is truly his home, and Center F 114 is his seat. Maura Lawton - Sophomore - Ensemble Member Maura is really excited about The Sound of Music, her seventh production with HHS. She hopes you enjoy the show! Sara “Mac” Leong - Senior - Herr Zeller Sara is very excited to be participating in her third show at HHS. It is her first speaking part as well as her first musical where the ensemble gets to move. Karim Maggio - Junior - Orchestra Member/Cello This is Karim’s third time in pit orchestra. Karim has enjoyed preparing for The Sound of Music, and he is very excited to show the finished product. Erin Maxwell - Senior - Maria Rainer, Choreographer Erin is ecstatic to play her dream role with great cast, tech, crew, and orchestra members and friends. The Sound of Music is her tenth and final show at HHS. You may have seen her as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Cinderella in Into the Woods, and Viola in Twelfth Night, to name a few. In addition to playing the role of Maria, she also choreographed quite a few numbers for the show, including “Do-Re-Mi”, and “So Long, Farewell”. Erin thanks Ms. Van Slyke, her family, and Gia for being her biggest cheerleader. Erin will be attending Franklin and Marshall College this fall to study on a pre-law track.

You may have seen Lulu in the past two Summer Grands, Willy Wonka and The Little Mermaid. You also may have seen her on and off stage in this season’s shows, in which she was an ensemble member in She Kills Monsters, a stage crew member in The Diary of Anne Frank, and a marketing team member in Alice in Funkyland. Since he is graduat- ing this year, he will miss the HHS productions greatly, but he hopes to watch the future shows. Margaret “Maggie” Millar - Senior - Orchestra Member/Flute This is Maggie's first time as a pit orchestra member, and Maggie is super excited at the chance to play flute for The Sound of Music as one of the last things she does before gradu- ating this June. As a fan of theatre, being able to fit this into her life and check it off her list is a fun opportunity she won't forget! She has been performing since she was just four years old! She has sung at various events around Herndon and in different professional spaces like the 9:30 Club in D.C. and the Fillmore Silver Spring in MD. She thanks her friends and family for believing in her and supporting her every day. Bao-Han Nguyen - Sophomore - Run Crew Member Bao-Han is thrilled to be part of The Sound of Music. This is her second show, the first one being The Little Mermaid, the 2018 Summer Grand production. She hopes you enjoy the show! Alyssa Ruark - Second Grade/Clearview Elementary - Gretl This is Alyssa’s first time having a solo part in a play. She was part of the Musical Thea- ter Club at Clearview Elementary, and she was an extra in The Big Bad Musical and Seussi- cal Jr. Alyssa sings in the children's choir at her church, and she likes to practice ventrilo- quism. She was very excited to be cast as Gretl because she likes the movie and knows all of the songs. Lylon Sanchez-Valido - Junior - Ensemble Member This is Lylon’s sixth HHS show, and she hopes her fellow cast members have a blessed show. She prays that everything goes well! Jill Schmid - Freshman - Props Master This is the second HHS production for Jill. In her first, She Kills Monsters, she served as the Assistant Stage Manager. She also worked with props in Langston Hughes Middle School’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gia Tigreros - Senior - Set Designer As this is her first year doing set design, Gia is so thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. She thanks Mr. Overton for helping to construct her designs. She also thanks Erin Maxwell for always being her #1 fan. Gia will be attending college in the fall and majoring in Animation. Mackenzie Trimble - Sophomore - Frau Zeller Mackenzie is very excited to be a part of The Sound of Music, which is her second show at HHS!
