Winners of these Non-Regular classes, if otherwise undefeated, will compete for Best of Breed.
                                    BEST OF BREED COMPETITION
The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed Competition: Dogs that are
Champions of Record and dogs which according to their owner’s records, have completed the require-
ments for a championship, but whose championships are unconfirmed. The showing of unconfirmed
champions in Best of Breed Competition is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show
where the dog completed the requirements for a championship. Select Dog and Select Bitch, where
applicable, will be chosen immediately following Best of Breed competition.
BRED BY EXHIBITOR REQUIREMENTS - All Dogs entered in the Bred-By Class must be individually
registered with the AKC. The person handling the dog must be a breeder of record and an owner or
co-owner of the dog.
                                       NON-REGULAR CLASSES
                                   (Involving Multiple Dog Entries)
Note: Non-regular classes involving multiple entries may be judged before or after Best of Breed. As
the judge’s decision in these classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog, no one of the
dogs making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed or Best
of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed by virtue of having won the class.

STUD DOG CLASS – For Stud Dogs and two of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under
the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the
regular classes, or if a Champion of Record in Best of Breed Competition, but MUST be entered in
the Stud Dog Class; the Get MUST be entered in one of the regular or non-regular single dog entry
classes. The Stud Dog shall be considered as one entry and requires one entry fee, this being the
regular fee plus the additional class fee if the Stud Dog is entered in another class. The Stud Dog must
be shown in the ring with the Get. The class will be judged on the merits of the Get.

BROOD BITCH CLASS – Same as for the Stud Dog except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and
Produce for Get.
BRACE CLASS – For two dogs that are similar in appearance, performing in unison and presented by
a maximum of two handlers. Dogs competing in Brace competitions must have at least one common
owner. Dogs need not be entered in another class. Brace Class must be indicated on the entry form.
If more than one brace is entered by common owners, the dogs comprising each Brace Unit must be
designated “Brace #1, Brace #2, etc.”

Judging procedures may be modified to accommodate disabled handlers.
RAMP
A judge requesting the use of a ramp must give notice to the show superintendent/show secretary
prior to judging. AKC approval is not required. Keeshonden may be examined on the ground or on
a ramp. The entire entry in a breed is to be examined in the same manner (ground or ramp). This
extends to all conformation competition at AKC conformation dog shows and any AKC event where a
conformation title may be earned. This policy includes Junior Showmanship.
                                                                 2019 • Keeshond Club of America • 7

TOP KEESHOND EVENT
The purpose of the Top Keeshond Event is to provide a single competition for the top ranking
Keeshonden during the past year judged by three unannounced judges. It is an opportunity
to showcase and appreciate some of the best individuals the Keeshond fancy has to offer. It is
intended to be both educational and enjoyable, serving to advance knowledge and appreciation
of the breed.
A dog must be ranked in the top 25 Keeshonden for the previous calendar year. In addition,
if the top 5 ranking bitches do not appear on the above stated list, they will also be deemed
eligible to compete. Tabulation for eligibility will be based on Keeshonden defeated as a result
of Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex wins from January 1 through December 31 of the
year preceding the competition.
THE FORMAT FOR THE 2019 TOP KEESHOND EVENT:
Each entrant will be given a specific ring time. Entrants will be judged in groups of three, allowing
opportunity for each of the three judges to individually perform a hands-on examination,
followed by each entrant being judged on movement by all three judges simultaneously.
After all the entrants have been judged, we invite the spectators to enjoy an exhibition of
performance dogs and their handlers while we await the tallying of score sheets by our auditors.
The grand finale will feature the introduction of each of the TKE entrants as they circle the ring
to their chosen musical selection, followed by the announcement of the Top Keeshond Event
Winner and the Best of Opposite Sex to the TKE Winner.
Additional details about the Top Keeshond Event, including the premium list and entry
deadlines, will be mailed with the invitations to the primary owner of each eligible Keeshond.
Questions regarding the Top Keeshond Event should be directed to Kellie Siekierski via email at
topkeeshondevent@gmail.com.
