THE PULSE OF LEGACY
Message From Our Director
Message from our Director
If one of our main objectives is to accelerate transformation; therefore, change is inevitable.
This quote reminds me of our vision, “To be an innovative, responsible, educational model
preparing scholars for the future”. In order to accomplish our vision, we must improve the
various practices we use, which implies adjusting and changing often. Settling with status quo
is a dangerous strategy which will not help us transition to a higher level. Doing the same
things we have done all the time will not help us move our students to be career and college
ready. It is necessary for us to challenge what we are doing and the way we are doing it in
order to improve those practices every day.
We are offering plenty of opportunities for our students to have extra support, which include
after school and Saturday school interventions; however, these are reactive measures to help
students who for some reason have not been able to master those skills we have taught.
We can optimize students’ achievement and reduce the number of students in need of help
during our regular classes without depending on extra interventions beyond regular classes,
we call this First Good Instruction.
Let's make sure that we:
· We stay focused on the high leverage TEKS, implement action plans, and use data to
drive our instruction.
· Actively participate in our PLC sessions. Collaborate with our teams; we know that
success in education is powered by effective teams and effective practices.
· Prepare and plan our lessons so that teaching is purposeful and we are able to
maximize instructional time having a “bell-to-bell” instruction approach.
· Challenge students through academic rigor. Let’s make students use reasoning beyond
initial thinking. Let’s ignite in them the desire to know more and apply new knowledge.
· Leverage the positive relationships we have built so that students trust and follow our
lead.
· Implement aggressive monitoring to ensure students are accomplishing learning goals in
real time.
Thank you to everyone who continue to support our students in their efforts to be ready for
the next
Vi grade level and to succeed in the upcoming STAAR assessments.
Let's Make It Happen!

Ronda Burns
My name is Ronda Burns. I teach Commercial Photography, Yearbook, and
Theater 1, at Legacy Preparatory Charter Academy. Prior to joining LPCA,
I taught at Phoenix Charter School for 16 years. Building a Fine Arts program
from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grades. Texas A&M Commerce was my
University of Choice. After graduating in 1999, I taught third grade at Crockett Elementary for
the Greenville, Independent School District. After one year of third grade my mind was made
up to teach Music. I went back to TAMU-C and meet with Jim Tyler Anderson, the Playwright
Professor and shared my dream of working across the educational board with Phoenix and
TAMU-C, teaching my scholars to write plays, then having College Grads come and critique the
plays and guiding into performance. The dream came true and TAMU-C and Phoenix began
the journey of "The Phoenix Project" which consisted of ten plays written by our scholars
and performed in various Universities across the state. This lead to an opportunity of
excitement and growth! My scholars and I would go to Texas Educational Theater Association
and perform for multiple Theater Educators across Texas. A licences in the Kindermusik
program started my private studio career many years ago. I am married and the proud
mother of one son and grandmother of two. Photography completes me, and each day that I
live I am blessed!
STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Legacy Student of The Week is Senior, Jacoris Allen, who admires Russell Westbrook, because
he has a “Never give up attitude.” Basketball drives Jacoris to work hard in all areas of life,
being his favorite sport, followed by Track. He enjoys collaborating with his teammates and
loves to feel the “WIN.” Family is very important and spending time with his four siblings
brings great happiness. The love for the camera is a two-fold enjoyment; one, modeling and
two shooting pictures will be a part of his future. Jacoris shows himself friendly at Legacy
and scholars enjoy spending time with him, as they grow together, academically. Texas A&M
University is the college of choice and Education will be his field of focus. Legacy is proud to
have Jacoris as a scholar! What's Going on at Legacy?
