1) Senior Unit Teaching Team

Angie and Jared have been long term servants of Immanuel with a collective total of over 30
years in this community. We have worked together as a teaching team for the last four years
and enjoy teaching in collaboration with each other. Year 6 can often provide fresh and new
challenges as students prepare for Secondary School. While it can have its stresses, it is a fun
and exciting time in a student’s life. We are looking forward to assisting this year’s graduates
and their families through this transition.

3) Camps

The Year 6 camp this year will be to Canberra at the commencement of Term 2, Saturday 22-
Friday 28 May.

Canberra camps have become popular among this age group as they provide great learning
opportunities in Civics and Citizenship as well as offering experiences that are not available in
our own state. It is also a fantastic way to promote and develop independent and social skills
in and amongst the students.

4) Learning at home

The IB cites the following as the key elements of a good learning program: Knowledge, Skills,
Concepts, Attitudes and Action and so the Homework/’Learning at Home’ routine for our Year
6 level will also focus on the following Skills/Attitudes and Actions…

• Reading – we would like our students to regularly read to help develop fluency,
vocabulary and comprehension.

• Mathletics – we would like students to reach 1000 Mathletics Points each week

• Spelling – we will also send home the spelling books for which we would like students to
complete spelling tasks introduced on Mondays

• UOI – students are encouraged to engage in authentic and purposeful ‘actions’ that
link in or enhance their inquiring at school

                                                                                               2

7) Other bits and bobs

Leadership Model for Senior Students: In 2021 we continue to encourage our senior students to
make positive contributions to our school community. We would like to tap into an even wider
range of God-given gifts and talents within our senior student body and share the responsibility
of student contribution to school life more fairly. This will happen during sittings of a school
Parliament and students having different roles.

Consent 2 go.

Communication will be digital this year with the Consent 2 go forms being launched.

Blogspot

Instead of Monday updates, the Senior Unit uses a blog that has information about what is
going on in the Senior Unit. The address for the blog is - http://theseniorunit.blogspot.com.au/

Seesaw

Teachers regularly use See Saw to communicate your child’s learning. We encourage you to
sign up to allow this communication.

Stationery: Writing materials distributed in student book packs have been selected specifically
for classroom use. Gel pens are not to be brought to school due to their distractive properties.
Handwriting is to be completed with blue pen or HB pencil only, red pen for margins, titles &
dates only.

                                                                                                    3
iPads and Bootcamp

Students have their own school iPad managed by the school. We will be participating an iPad
bootcamp which will inform students about the safe productive and responsible use of iPads
for learning. Once students have demonstrated understanding of their responsibilities they will
be able to use them at home for homework tasks.

Before any use of technology, students and parents will need to agree to and sign the school
IT User Agreement, covering both school and home usage.

                                                                                             4
· Formal assessment tasks or tests

Reporting to parents takes place in a number of ways:
· Formal reports (Terms 2 and 4)
· Learning conferences (Terms 1 and 3, which may involve parents, teachers and students)
· Ongoing reporting of student learning and classroom life through the use of Seesaw
· The Year 6 PYP Exhibition
· Parents are also welcome at any time to make appointments to see teachers regarding their
child’s learning

To ensure accurate assessment and reporting, moderation takes place between teachers,
where teachers compare observations and work samples from all students in the year level
