Northeast region: Six airports will be modernized in 2021

Airport concessionaire Aena Brasil forecast to expand
investments over the next months

By Edmundo Ubiratan for Aeromagazine magazine
November 23, 2020

A series of investments will be made at the six airports managed by
concessionaire Aena Brasil. The terminals modernization occurs even
in face of uncertainties impacted by worldwide covid-19 pandemic,
but reflects a trend of continued air transport growth in Brazil.

The announcement came on November 19, when the CEO of Aena
Brasil, Santiago Yus, confirmed that improvements would be made at
Recife airport, in Pernambuco.

The works include bathrooms, air conditioning systems, accessibility
and signage. The forecast is to start services in January 2021, in three
investment blocks, being the second block in the operations area, to
be delivered on June 2023.

Recife airport also received the “Safe Tourism Seal”, an initiative of the
Government of Pernambuco awarded to facilities that are providing
safe resumption of tourist activities in the state.

“Our main concern is to care for and restore passenger’s confidence.
In addition to the material issues, the most important thing is to do
everything with care. We need to congratulate the entire airport
community, service companies, airlines, maintenance, cleaning, and
security. “This seal is the result of their work”, highlighted the CEO of
Aena Brasil.

The airline industry's expectation is that the effectiveness of a vaccine
could allow travel to resume in 2021, depending on the speed at
which governments and the pharmaceutical industry are able to
respond to the global demand for immunization.

Movement in Brazilian airports grows more than 1,000% from April to
November
By Pedro Menezes (site Mercado e Eventos) - January 7, 2021

The number of passengers circulating at airports increased more than 11 times,
from 838.4 thousand to 9.83 million (Infraero)

Data from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) revealed that last year from
April to November (since the beginning of the pandemic), the number of
passengers circulating in Brazilian airports increased more than 11 times, from
838.4 thousand to 9.83 million. The index also increased in number of flights, from
11.800 to 85.200 landings and takeoffs in the same period. In Recife, the number
of passengers grew by 1.200% in the period.

Gilson Machado Neto, Brazilian Minister of Tourism, said that the ministry has
taken important measures for a responsible resumption of tourists across the
country without neglecting the economic importance of the sector. "We have
been working tirelessly to ensure that the return happens safely for tourists and
workers through the Responsible Tourism Seal, and the airline industry is one of
our priorities," he said.

A survey carried out by the Ministry of Tourism brought the expectation of more
than 4.3 million people flying across the country during the year-end festivities.
Among the most sought after destinations, six were in the Northeast: Fortaleza
(CE), Salvador (BA), João Pessoa (PB), Natal (RN), Maceió (AL) and Recife (PE). The
capital of Pernambuco, in fact, registered an increase of 12% in the volume of
passengers in the period.
