This course aims at
• providing students with a general understanding of the
  issues characterizing economic development
         – this will be done by means of a theoretical approach addressing
the issue of inequalities, and in particular of income inequality, as
well as the issues at the basis of economic development
         – both issues will be addressed by definitions and measurements
so that theory could be compared with a more awkward reality
• enabling students to collect data, process them and
produce a coursework of their own which will be
discussed at the end of the semester
         – All relevant material will be uploaded on the course website
         – Students are asked to check TEAMS and OLAT as well

Two modules
• will address the complex relationship between growth
(i.e. economic growth), development and inequality
       – Module Developmet è is meant to understand the role of the
main economic variables in the virtuous dynamics within the
sustainable development process in the medium-long run.
              • Why different countries follow different development paths?
              • Is there a development ladder?
              • Can we identify the most important development factors?
       – Module Inequality è will employ the main tools meant to
describe inequality and to highlight the related concepts.
              • Is inequality a problem and why?
              • How do we describe inequality and how do we measure it?
              • Do different measures yield different results and how is this possible?
