- cuellar_estela@sccollege.eduWhat is dual enrollment?
• Dual Enrollment is an opportunity for
high school students to:
– Get a head start on college
– Explore an interest
– Fulfill a high school requirement and
earn college credit simultaneously
• Classes taught by SCC instructors
• Eligibility: students from 9th to 12th
grade - no residency requirementWhere are the classes offered?
• Students may take classes at the
high school after the school day
(if offered)
• Students may also take classes
at the Santiago Canyon College
(SCC) campus or via Distance
Learning (online)Why should I take dual enrollment classes? Dual Enrollment is associated with: • Higher rates of high school completion • Direct enrollment in college after high school • Improving the likelihood of completing a college degree or certificate
Other benefits of dual enrollment?
• SAVE $$$ (potentially 1+ year of college tuition!)
• Save time – earn both high school and college
credits at the same time – most credits transfer
to UC/CSU
• Learn how to be college students
• Earn certificates qualifying you for high-paying
jobs that may lead you to a career
• Access to SCC student support services such as
the tutoring, math & writing labs, library,
counselingWhat classes should I take?
• Any course for which you
meet the prerequisites AND
have received permission
from your high school
• Take courses in any term: Fall,
Intersession, Spring, Summer
• Take courses taught at the
HS, on SCC campus, or onlineWhat are the right courses for me?
• Talk with your high school
counselor to determine which
courses will meet your high
school requirements
• An SCC counselor will help you
start an educational plan
outlining courses you will need
for your college degree and
certificate requirementsHow much studying time should I plan for?
• Plan time for attending classes,
reading, studying, completing
homework, extra curricular
activities, and working
• For every hour of classroom
time, allow two hours of outside
homework time:
3-unit class = 3 hours classroom time
+ 6 hours homework/outside study/assignments (2 hours of every hour in class)
9 hours total time for a 3-unit classWhat should I expect? When taking college courses
