D ear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, MASS SCHEDULE When the faithful women arrived at the empty tomb on the morning of the first Easter, the Angel they found there spoke Saturday Vigil, 4 PM to them in these words: “You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who Sunday, 7:30 AM, 9 AM, was crucified. He has risen, he is not here” (Mark 16:6). This is the 11 AM, 1 PM, and 5 PM same message for all of us, gathered for Easter over two thousand Monday & Tuesday, 9 AM years later. The One who suffered and died for us is alive! He has Wednesday, 6:30 PM conquered death for Himself and also for us. This is the great hope for Thursday & Friday, 9 AM all who follow Him, to embrace the path He has marked out for us, and thereby to discover the way 1st Friday, 6:30 AM to real and everlasting life. 1st Saturday, 9 AM May the message of the Angel resound in our hearts and minds this Easter: “He is not here, he is Risen!” CONFESSIONS Fr. Raymond McDaniel, Pastor Wednesday, 4:30-6 PM Saturday, 2:30-3:15 PM Private by appointment Welcome to Our New Members Please pray for those received into the Church this Easter, that their OFFICE HOURS journey of faith may lead them ever more deeply into communion with Monday-Thursday, 9 AM-5 PM Christ. This isn’t a random number, but refers back to Scripture: The story of Creation in Genesis de- scribes each phase of Creation as the First Day, Sec- ond Day, etc., concluding with the Seventh Day, on which Creation was complete, and God rested. But on the first day of the week, that is, the eighth day, Christ rose from the dead; the eighth day or “octave” is therefore the day of New Creation, and special feasts of the Church (like Easter) are cele- brated for a period of eight days, or an “octave”. · Attend daily Mass: the Church celebrates each day of the Easter Octave like a “little Easter” · Read the Daily Readings if you can’t make it to Mass; they unfold the story of the Resurrec- tion and Jesus’ appearances to the Holy Women and Disciples. Did you know? Baptismal fonts (including the font here at St. Philip’s) are often eight-sided, reminding us of our entrance through Baptism into the renewal of creation accomplished by Christ.
