Elk County Catholic High School Senior Information Packet for the Class of 2021
Dear Senior Parent(s), With the month of May comes many activities for the members of the senior class and their parents. With this in mind, this packet of materials has been assembled to assist seniors and their parents in making these events as successful as possible. Please take a few moments to review this packet and I would greatly appreciate your assistance with these items: 1. For all school sponsored activities (the Prom, Senior Night, Graduation, senior relaxed dress days), please take time to read the dress requirements. We will make every effort to enforce the dress requirements. Please discuss with your child what he/she will be wearing to these activities. Of main concern are strapless, spaghetti straps, one shoulder strap tops, t-shirt logos, and any other inappropriate school attire. Dress code requirements for jewelry, accessories and shaving remain in effect until seniors receive their diplomas! 2. The dress requirements for the prom do vary from the other senior events. Information on dress for the prom can be found in this packet. 3. The Prom, May 15, is a very special time for the seniors and an event that involves much preparation. Please note that students will not be excused from school to take care of any prom-related items. 4. Ask your graduate to bring his/her graduation gown home before Tuesday, May 25 to provide ample time for it to be ironed. The gowns and picture packets will be distributed on Friday, May 21. Picture packets need to be completed for the graduation pictures which will be taken by Lifetouch the afternoon of the May 25. Graduates may then leave their cap & gown at school for graduation. 5. The schedule for Senior Night, May 26, encompasses two events, starting at 6:00 pm. Directions for seating will be posted. The alumni pinning will be part of the Prayer Service so the alumni pinner needs to be seated with the family. Pinning will be followed by awards and scholarships. TO COMPLY WITH EVENT GATHERING LIMITATIONS, EACH GRADUATE IS LIMITED TO 5 GUESTS, INCUDING THE ALUMNI PINNER- MEMBERS OF THE SENIOR CLASS WILL BE SEATED WITH THEIR FAMILIES. All graduates and guests must wear masks over the mouth and nose during the entire Senior Prayer Service-Pinning-and Awards Ceremony. 6. The Baccalaureate Mass with Commencement Exercises will be held at 12:30p.m. on Sunday, May 30. AT QUEEN OF THE WORLD CHURCH. The larger space will allow for more social distancing and additional guests for each graduate. Graduates should report to the SMCES gym no later than 12:00 p.m. with their cap & gown. EACH GRADUATE WILL BE PERMITTED TO HAVE 7 GUESTS AT THE GRADUATION CEREMONY – GRADUATES WILL BE SEATED WITH THEIR FAMILIES. All graduates and guests must wear masks over the mouth and nose during the entire Baccalaureate Mass and throughout Commencement Exercises A more detailed document concerning this event can be found later in this packet.
7. Please note the following concerning the Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony: Honors for Graduation will be determined by courses completed at the end of eight semesters. (ECC Parent-Student Handbook – page 12) The actual baccalaureate mass and graduation ceremony is designed to be a formal event. To ensure that a formal atmosphere is maintained throughout the ceremony, students must comply with these guidelines: • Properly fitting and appropriate shoes (as outlined in the dress requirements) must be worn at all times. • Slacks/Pants must be worn as intended (may not be rolled up). • Students’ attire under the graduation gowns must comply with the requirements set forth for the Baccalaureate Mass/Graduation. • Masks must be worn over the mouth and nose for all those in attendance. All outstanding fees – technology, etc. – must be paid in full in order to receive the official diploma/have final transcripts forwarded. Diplomas will be mailed approximately one week after graduation. Cafeteria fees should be paid in full by the end of the school year. Students with any outstanding disciplinary referrals will only receive their diplomas/have final transcripts forwarded once those referrals have been resolved. 8. Reminder: a decision regarding your graduate’s iPad must be made by 2:25 pm on May 24. A student will not receive a signed diploma until all business aspects of the iPad have been taken care of – purchase, return, and/or damage and/or lost item fees. 9. Please inform the guidance office of any scholarship offers by Friday, May 14, so that we may compile that information for the senior awards ceremony. More specific information concerning these activities is included in the following pages. Thanks so much for your ongoing support of Catholic Education at ECCSS throughout the years! Sincerely, John Schneider Principal

ECC Prom – Saturday, May 15 ECCHS Formal Dance Dress Requirements (Effective January 14, 2013 with revisions in the Fall of 2016) As a Catholic School community, it is important that we maintain high standards of dress at ECC events, including dances. We also recognize that these guidelines cannot address every situation and that you not only consider the LETTER of these requirements but the SPIRIT of the requirements and choose clothing that is appropriate for students attending ECC. The administration reserves the right to make the final determination concerning the appropriateness of any students’ attire. If a student is unsure of the appropriateness of an item, they are encouraged to submit a photo of themselves wearing the item prior to the event. NOTE: These guidelines apply to Homecoming, the Winter Formal, and the Prom Ladies: A modest style long or short dress, no shorter than 6-8 inches above the knee may be worn. Dresses may have the corset style lacing up the back. Dresses that are two pieces should not show more than 2 inches of midriff/bare skin. The bottom piece of a two-piece dress should sit at the waist and should NOT show the navel. We strongly recommend that two piece dresses be connected with buttons or hooks. Dresses that are backless should not dip below the navel region. Dresses may NOT have revealing cutouts. Please try on shared dresses before actually wearing them to a dance. A dress that was worn by someone else may not fit a different girl in the same way. Gentlemen: Dress pants, dress shirt, and tie are to be worn. A tuxedo or sport jacket is optional. Shirts must remain on and they may not be defaced in any way such as ripping off the sleeves. ECC shaving rules remain in effect. All students attending the dance must have some type of shoe on at all times to prevent possible cuts from sharp objects on the floor. Flip flops are acceptable

Elk County Catholic High School Baccalaureate Mass with Commencement Exercises Sunday, May 30 12:30 p.m. Queen of the World Church To the Parents of the members of the Class of 2021: In order to be in compliance with all PA Department of Health requirements and Bishop Persico’s Protocols for the Resumption of Public Worship, the following measures will be in place during the Baccalaureate Mass with Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at QUEEN OF THE WORLD CHRUCH. Here are some specifics for the date: We ask that members of the ECCHS Class of 2021 report to the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GYM by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday 5/30 with your cap and gown. If graduates are coming in their own vehicle, we ask that they park in the parking lot across the street from the church & school. Families of the graduates may go directly into the church. Families will have an assigned seat and members of the ECCHS Faculty and Staff will assist families with seating. Please use the posted directions to enter the church - the entrance closest to the school office and elevator. Mass will begin at 12:30 p.m. graduates will process into the church and will sit with their family. Student speakers, and the presentation of awards, diplomas, and pinning will take place within the context of the mass, following communion. At the conclusion of mass & commencement exercises students will process out the mezzanine area in front of the church where they will toss their caps. Some notes about our Baccalaureate Mass with Commencement Exercises: Following the current regulations from the PA Department of Health and from Bishop Persico’s Protocols for the Resumption of Public Mass, the following measures will be in place. • Given the number of students in the Class of 2021, each graduate and SEVEN guests will be able to attend the Mass with Commencement Exercises. The ceremony will be broadcast on the school’s YouTube Channel and on ECCTV for family members that are unable to attend in-person. The link to the school’s YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/c/ECCTVCHANNEL • Following PA Department of Health Guidelines and the Bishop’s protocols, masks must be worn, except for when participants come forward for communion and when the graduate comes forward to receive an award or their diploma.
• Families will be assigned a space to sit, family groups will not need to social distance, family groups will be seated six feet apart from each other. • Graduates will process into the church following social distancing guidelines and will be seated with their families at the end of the pews throughout the mass ceremony. Since family groups do not need to social distance, having graduates sit with their families will free up space within the church to help increase the number of guests that can attend. • Families are asked to follow all entry, movement and exit instructions within the church. At the conclusion of the ceremony, families are asked to move directly to their vehicles. School staff will be available to assist with the movement of families. • In effort to follow the Bishop’s Protocols and public health mandates, those with a recent exposure/potential exposure to COVID-19 (within the 14 day quarantine period), those not feeling well, and those in high risk categories ARE ASKED TO REFRAIN FROM ATTENDANCE. Again, we cannot begin to thank you enough for your support of ECCSS during this difficult period, and despite the limits in guests and other precautions that must be taken, it is our desire to hold an event that will honor the members of the Class of 2021 for reaching this milestone in their education. Thank you and continued wishes that you remain happy, healthy and holy! Elk County Catholic School System
