Welcome
Welcoming in the New Year, we have a typically busy and varied programme for you at
Junction, bringing back some old friends and introducing you to some new ones. Top
billing for the season is probably Chris Difford, the award winning song writer from Squeeze
who I have been trying to bring here for a number of years. But then again, it could be the
astonishing Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, a massive 50 strong folk band
which will shake the dust from the rafters later in June, assuming we can work out how they’ll
all fit on stage. Or perhaps instead, comedian Alfie Moore with his latest show. Or Verve,
the post graduate company from Northern School of Contemporary Dance. In truth, every
performance will bring top quality in their field, whether that’s theatre from Silent Uproar or
a family show from the Australian company Cluster Arts – book this if you want to see the
amazing toilet paper gun in action!

All this plus more local talent from Spoken Word, Castaway, Read’s Warblers and the Duet
School of Dance. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Stepping Out
Following their sell out run of Brassed Off, Spoken Word
Productions are proud to present Stepping Out.
The story follows the lives of the members of an amateur
tap class. Mavis, a professional dancer who didn’t
quite make it past the chorus line, now runs her own
class in the local church hall. A mixed, and otherwise
incompatible, group meet weekly for their tap-dancing
class, each struggling to conquer either their inhibitions
or dance technique, or both! Then the day comes when
Mavis breaks the news to the group that they have
been invited to perform in front of an audience for a big
charity concert.
With varying degrees of talent and determination each
class member copes with the challenge…but with only a
few weeks to learn a tap routine, will they do it in time?

and hung over self-loathing.
A collaboration between playwright David Greig and
singer-songwriter Gordon McIntyre, Midsummer opened
at the Traverse Theatre in October 2008 and was revived
for an international tour in the summer of 2009.

Cluster Arts: Chores
Inspired by slapstick legends Buster Keaton and Charlie
Chaplin, Cluster Arts on tour from Australia, present the
side-splitting tale of two excitable brothers with a very
messy bedroom. Having ignored their mum’s instruction
to clean their room, the brothers spring into acrobatic
action for a last-minute cleaning spree and are definitely,
probably, maybe, just about to, almost, at some stage,
going to do the chores their mother has asked them
to do! With skilled stunts, uproarious gags and very little
spoken dialogue, the audience will find themselves on
the edge of their seats and giggling until the chores are
done.
