The Planets

     NOVA presents a groundbreaking new              episodes, the series brings the eight worlds
     five-part series, The Planets, beginning at     that populate our solar system vividly to life,
     8 pm Wednesday, July 24. The Planets tells      combining accurate and detailed imagery,
     the spectacular story of our solar system—a     the latest planetary science research, and
     narrative spanning billions of years—through    extraordinary footage captured by orbiters,

     First released in 1970, Moonwalk
     One is a digitally remastered version
     of the seminal documentary that was
     filmed over the course of the Apollo

     poetic, and philosophic telling of
     how America achieved this incredible
     feat, bolstered by an avant-garde
     score and inspiring narration by
     Laurence Luckinbill.

                                     In the three-part series Ancient Skies,

                                     The father of
                                     modern astronomy
                                     When it was published in 1610, Galileo’s
                                     “Sidereus Nuncius” (Starry Messenger)
                                     set in motion a scientific revolution. Using
                                     observations he made of both the earth’s moon
                                     and Jupiter’s moons, Galileo proved earth is
                                     not the center of the universe. 550 copies of
                                     the original treatise were originally printed and
                                     roughly 150 are known to exist today. When
                                     an original copy with Galileo’s signature and
                                     seemingly original watercolor paintings of
                                     the phases of the moon believed to be done
                                     by Galileo himself came on the market in
                                     2005, Sidereus Nuncius caused a worldwide
                                     sensation 400 years after its creation… and
                                     again in 2012 when it was proved a fake. Join
                                     experts as they examine the proof copy in
                                     an all-new episode of Secrets of the Dead,

The 40th annual Telly Awards were announced
last month, and Illinois Public Media came
home with an impressive nine awards! Our
latest web series, Classical: BTS was the big
winner, with two episodes winning Silver in
videography/cinematography; three episodes
winning Bronze for editing; one episode win-
ning Bronze for videography/cinematography;
and the entire series winning Bronze in the
music webseries category. The webseries was
produced with the support of the Barbara E.
Barnes fund. Kudos to executive producer
Lisa Bralts and videographer/producer Isaac
Musgrave for their award-winning work!
The other winner was the news feature “From
Prison to College: How a Formerly Incarcerat-
ed Student Overcame the Odds to Graduate.”
Created by reporter Lee V. Gaines and senior
producer/director Sarah Edwards, the feature
showcased Perry Cline (right) and won Silver in

     Niala Boodhoo chosen for
     Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship
     Niala Boodhoo, host and executive producer
     of The 21st, was named as a Knight-Wallace
     Journalism Fellow, a direct result of the excel-
     lent work she has done throughout her career.
     As a Knight-Wallace Fellow, Boodhoo will
     spend the 2019-2020 academic year at the
     University of Michigan in Ann Arbor engaging
     in collaborative learning through fellowship
     seminars, training workshops, and travel.
     As part of this year-long fellowship, each
     journalist will pursue their own individual study
     plan. Boodhoo will focus on creating a repli-
     cable business plan for local news podcasts.
