Medford Area Public School District
Greetings Parents, Guardians, and Students:

Welcome to summer adventures in the Medford Area School District! We are delighted to offer
some exciting summer school courses, camps, and programs for summer 2020. Please take a close
look at the numerous opportunities for your child(ren) to be engaged in learning and fun over the
summer months. Due to health concerns during the pandemic, we are offering virtual and distance
learning in the month of June. In hopes that we will be able to have face to face classes in July and
August, you will notice that we have swimming lessons and regular classes scheduled for those
months. Please stay on the lookout over the summer for updates on classes.

All residents of the Medford Area Public School District are eligible to enroll their children who will
be entering Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 in the Fall of 2020. Students who are open-enrolled
in the Medford Area Public School District are also eligible to participate.

For non-resident students who are not open-enrolled to the Medford Area Public School District,
there will be a $25 per course participation fee. Swimming lessons are considered a separate course.

Registration Notes:

 Please use the grade your child will be entering in the fall of 2020 for summer course enrollment.
 Registration for summer school courses, including swimming lessons, will occur through Sign Up
Genius, beginning on Friday, May 1 at 6:00 a.m. Please see page 15 for registration instructions.
This registration process will also be used for the second session of swimming lessons and any ad-
   ditional camps throughout the summer.
 Courses may be cancelled if there is not sufficient enrollment or if state health and safety con-
cerns persist. Parents will be contacted if this occurs.
 For questions or assistance with registration, please call Sara Budimlija at the District Office at
715-748-4620 ext 522. Parents may also ask for registration assistance at any of our schools.
Paper copies of the Summer School Adventures booklets are available at each building as well.
 During the summer months, check the Medford School District website, social media, and email
   for continuing updates.
We look forward to providing your child with an exciting, engaging summer program. The adventures
are waiting for us!

PK POLLYWOGS
Hey Pollywogs! Dive on in to your first school experience! We'll explore and improve our math, reading, fine motor,
and gross motor skills through some "toad-ally" cool activities. Register soon for a "hopping" summer adventure!

KINDERGARTEN CRICKETS
Kindergarten Crickets jump, jump, jumping all around! Wait, wait, wait...what’s that sound?!?! Oh, it’s just happy
campers having a blast through songs, books, activities and crafts! Catch a firefly out at night. Shine your flashlight,
oh so bright. Register soon to have fun learning in the month of June!

FIRST GRADE FIREFLIES
What a great summer we are going to have! The fireflies will be flying into four units that revolve around some of
our best friends from the movies. We will explore creepy crawly bugs (A Bug’s Life), toy making and inventing
(Toy Story), arts, music, and sports (The Incredibles), and getting ready for school in the fall (Monsters Uni-
versity)! Are you ready for a fun summer?

SECOND GRADE STINKBUGS
Yo Stinkbugs. What's that smell? Not us, but we are going to find out. Along the way, we are going to explore the
many animals of the world. Then, the sky isn't the limit, for what we will learn about the earth and space. Next, we
will work on our detective skills, as we become code sleuths and scavenger hunters extraordinaire. To round every-
thing off, basic skills for the outdoors will balance everything out. Register soon, so you don't miss out.

THIRD GRADE TICKS
Are you ready for some on-line summer vacation fun? Join us for a fun-filled month long learning opportunity based
on vacation themes. We will plan a variety of learning opportunities for students using multiple learning platforms,
including blackboard and other programs. We will practice reading, writing, and math while having fun, playing
games, and taking virtual field trips.

FOURTH GRADE FLIES
Get Ready for some Fourth Grade Fun this Summer!! Outdoor adventures, scavenger hunts, fort building, fairy
garden creating, virtual field trips, rock collecting, and much, much more! You will be the master of online learning!
You don't want to miss this virtual opportunity to maximize your Summer Time Fun

FIFTH GRADE FIRE ANTS
‘Fire up' for some summer fun in learning more about math, science, and reading. Be ready to 'bite' into some big pro-
jects to push your skills and abilities. We will have 'mounds' of enjoyment as we 'colonize' together for 'stinging'
good craft activities, library adventures, and indoor & outdoor experiences.

SIXTH GRADE SPITTLEBUG ZAPPERS
This spring has definitely been a CrAzY time! To combat the Covid-19 bug, students will be learning virtually in
June. In this class students will have the opportunity to learn about, share, and combat bugs of all different
types. They will spot and destroy ‘bugs” while learning a computer coding language. Traveling around the virtual
globe, they will learn about far-off lands, and the unusual bugs that creep, crawl, and fly there. They will learn
about Google tools, and use those tools to document and collaborate about a population of bugs around their own
home. They’ll learn about invasive bugs, and create info-graphics with Web 2.0 tools, so as to educate the public of
their findings. Finally, students will be able to explore bugs in literature and create their own characters.

                                                                                                                           4

ONLINE SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Grades K-5 • June 1 - August 16
Inst - Sadie Jensen
Don't let summer slide happen- get excited about
reading this summer and get rewards! Kids will
choose real books at their reading level, read
them, and then take a short comprehension as-
sessment on the story. Through our online plat-
form of Google Classroom, kids will have the op-
portunity to discuss their books, create book
trailers, and even participate in online book clubs
if they'd like. The goal is to just keep reading
over summer! Reaching each milestone will guar-
antee you a prize, and for each book you read, be
entered in a drawing for another prize! This is a
great way to motivate kids to keep reading over
summer.
