Na Fianna Nuacht
Following a very successful first day out when both teams won their opening games two
weeks ago, our Senior and Senior 2 Footballers both play again this Sunday morning at
10.30am and are hoping for good Na Fianna support. Best of luck to all teams, all support
welcome. Full weekend fixture list available at www.clgnafianna.com/fixtures/
This week sees a change at the top of Na Fianna’s Operation Transformation Team Leader
table. Representing the 2006 Girls, Kevin O’Donnell slips into the lead this week with an
impressive cumulative weight loss of 10%. Serious result Kevin, well done. The top three
Team Leaders this week are Kevin at 10%, Nora McCarrick (representing the 2007 Boys)
following very closely at 9% and just pipped into third place with an 8% cumulative loss is
Carla Downes (representing the 2004 and 2008 boys). It’s getting very tight at the top of the
table. Congrats to all our Team Leaders who are working their socks off and putting in
serious graft. Well done all, keep up the great work.

Our Team Leaders had a tough GNS session in the Club gym tonight when they were put
through their paces by the lads. Happy to report that we had no quitters and everybody left
the gym in good spirits and looking forward to another week of activity.
For latest Team Leader table see page 3.
Gala Night 19th April
Preparations for the Operation Transformation finale which will be a big club night continue
in the background. The event to be held in Scoil Chaitriona and back to the club afterwards
promises to be a great night with all the stops pulled out. Hosted by a national media
personality, the winning leader will be announced during a night’s programme that includes
halftime entertainment, spot prize raffle, finger food back at the club bar and general fun and
craic. Tickets for the night are €25 and will be available to buy in the next week from any of
our team leaders….but get to them early, because when they’re gone, they’re gone and the
event will sell out very quickly!

Sincere thanks to all who supported the recent GAA National Club Draw. Overall, Na
Fianna sold 1,227 tickets and as the total receipts go directly to the Club, the Draw gave
us a very respectable €12,270. Thanks everyone and best of luck to all in the Draw which
will take place next Wednesday, 6th March with presentation of the prizes taking place in
Croke Park on St. Patrick's Day,
In addition to the great prizes available in the National Club Draw, a special draw for Na
Fianna members who purchased tickets will be held in the Club bar on Thursday 13 th

Today With Seán O’Rourke
For anyone who missed last Tuesday’s broadcast on RTE Radio 1’s Today With Seán
O’Rourke, a link to the relevant part of the programme can be found here. The programme
featured a piece on the shortage of GAA pitches in the Dublin area and includes a number
of Na Fianna contributions. Some essential weekend listening!

U-11 Footballers in Croke Park
A rather flat atmosphere in GAA HQ was lifted last Saturday night by the U-11 footballers
of Ballyboden and Na Fianna. The Dublin and Mayo supporters packed into the Stands
and on the Hill were treated to a superb exhibition of skills from both teams. The Na
Fianna boys in particular were on top form and only some wayward shooting and a
number of great saves from the Ballyboden keeper prevented them from racking up a very
high score on the night. Nonetheless a series of fine passing moves from the Na Fianna
boys did yield a flurry of points but with the Na Fianna boys well on top Ballyboden then
struck for three points in a row before forcing an excellent save from the Na Fianna
keeper. However the Na Fianna boys were not going to be caught and a goal in the dying
seconds of the game was the icing on the cake for what was a tremendous experience for
all of the boys.
Na Fianna Team: Aaron O’Conor Casey, Caoilinn O’Connell, David Bateson, David
Ginnelly, Christian Shortall, Jack Brogan, John Keane, Liam Corcoran, Liam Patten, Luke
O’Shea and Rian O’Reilly. (Guided on the night by Angela and Mark).

Na Fianna 5K Fun Run Supports Our
Operation Transformation Leaders
This is the 4th year of the Na Fianna 5K Fun Run and, as is tradition, it takes place at
10am on Good Friday. It has always been a great success as a club, family and
community event.
One big difference this year is that the Fun Run organisers have teamed up with Na
Fianna Operation Transformation to support the leaders and in so doing supporting the
club teams directly. When registering you will be asked to nominate the leader you want to
support and in that way support the club team they represent. The nominated leader will
have that amount added to their fundraising tally as part of their Operation Transformation
challenge. Come and walk or run the Fun Run with the OT leaders.
Registration will open shortly on the Na Fianna website, details to be advised. An adult
entry is €15 and juvenile entry is €10 however check the registration page for some
generous Family discounts e.g. Family of 6 has been discounted to just €50.
Though not strictly a ‘race’ the Fun Run is chip timed and last year's times can be seen
here www.redtagtiming.com/results/NaFianna5km_2018.pdf

Can you beat the fastest male and female competitors, or did you take part last year and
can you beat your time?
If it’s your first time to do it be assured that there will be the walkers and joggers of all
abilities to keep you company!
If you need some help in preparing for the Fun Run then come down to Na Fianna
clubhouse each Monday at 7pm and join in the weekly Na Fianna walk. You do not need
to be a club member. All are most welcome, and the walk will go at a variety of paces
suitable to you! This weekly activity is a FREE health, well-being and social club initiative.
Now if for some reason you can't run or walk it then why not get involved in this community
event as a volunteer. Each year we rely on volunteers to help on the day as stewards out
on the course and around the clubhouse. In fact, the event couldn’t run without them, join
the team and help ensure a safe and fun event by contacting Eoin on 087-6597121.
We look forward to seeing participants, volunteers and spectators at the Na Fianna 5K
Fun Run on Good Friday 19th April 2019.

Fógra Tabachtach
The objective of Na Fianna Nuacht is to communicate as much club activity as possible however it is important to note that all
items for inclusion in either Club Notes or Na Fianna Nuacht are reported to news@clgnafianna.ie or texted to 087 9250697 by
Sunday evening. With a growing membership of almost 3,000 and over 100 teams now competing it is difficult to ensure all club
activity is reported upon – Do not assume that your team’s activity is already known to Na Fianna Nuacht or that someone else
has reported it. When errors or omissions occur it is the policy of Na Fianna Nuacht to correct these in subsequent issues wh en
they are reported to news@clgnafianna.ie
