Welcome

On behalf of the Committee of North Coast Kayak Fishing Club, welcome to the Club.

The Committee are elected annually to manage the Club and our aim is to provide a
friendly and successful Club with the primary aim of encouraging the enjoyment of
kayak fishing by fishermen of all ages and standards. The Committee acknowledges all
the hard work that the volunteers and Club members put in. We could not run the Club
without the committee and their help is very much appreciated.

We are a virtual kayak fishing club based in KZN, Durban and cater for most ages and
abilities, competing in our events. We have several excellent fishermen in the club that
assist new kayak members to achieve their individual goals and reach their full fishing
potential.

Our clinics are small enough to give each kayak fishermen individual attention yet big
enough for kayak fishermen of similar strengths and abilities to work together.

We believe in a hands-on approach, and if there is anything that you would like to discuss,
please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any of the Committee members.

Send Us A Message HERE

The Club is here for all Members and all those involved in their development.

We hope that you find this welcome pack useful.

Regards

North Coast Kayak Fishing Committee

Next Steps & Minimum Kayak Requirements:

There are several things that a new Member needs to be aware of and to do.

All Members should:

   1. Read the appropriate WhatsApp chat group Code of Conduct
on the web site WHATSAPP-RULES HERE
   2. Advise the Club of any change in their details (addresses, emergency telephone,
medical details etc. as they occur).

   3. Adhere to the minimum SAMSA kayak requirements:

To fish from a Kayak in South Africa you must adhere to the following SAMSA minimum
requirements: SAMSA (South African Marine Safety Association)

       ● Purchase a fishing license from the Post Office or KZN wildlife office
       ● Pay for the angling and skipper of a vessel on your license
       ● Kayak must be over 3 meters in length to go to sea (beyond the backline)
       ● Kayak must have minimum 30% buoyancy
       ● You must wear an approved PFD (personal flotation device)
       ● Carry a 10-meter rope. (Tow rope)
       ● Pencil flares (not out of date)
       ● Bailing device (bucket or collapsible bucket) you can use your tackle box or a
       sponge
       ● You must have 750ml drinking water.
       ● You must not exceed 1.85km from land (1nautical mile)
       ● You can launch anywhere except if the launch site is restricted by Port Authority,
Private owner, Parks Board, or Municipality for which you may be asked to pay a fee
SAKFA also recommend the following:

      ● Paddle leash. Attach your paddle to your ski via a leash (some like to detach during
      launching and beaching).
      ● Kayak should display approved SAKFA identification sticker and club Number
sticker. i.e.NCKFC 069 which means North Coast Kayak Fishing Club and allocated
number. So, if your Kayak is found out at sea NSRI or anyone who finds it can phone
SAKFA or the club which issued the number and get your details.
      ● Carry a cell phone in a waterproof pouch and program in 082 911 SEA RESCUE
      ● SMS your launch and return time or leave a float plan with someone.
      ● SAKFA recommend you join a local Kayak club, NCKFC of course!
      ● Always check the weather forecast before you leave and keep checking when you
      are out at sea.
      ● Make sure you can turnover and climb on your Kayak should it capsize.
      ● Never paddle alone always paddle with at least one person.
      ● If your Kayak capsizes stay with it and phone for help.
      ● Tell someone where you are going and estimated time due back.
      ● Complete a launch register at your launch site if applicable.
      ● Check your Kayak before leaving for cracks and leaks. Make sure the bungs are in!
      ● Remember to know your own personal paddling and swimming capabilities and do
      not exceed them.
      ● Don’t forget your fishing license and vessel license (both on the same license).
      ● Obey any Daff or municipality launch site rules and pay fees if applicable.
      ● A plastic whistle is also handy to have to attract attention.
      ● A mirror to use for attracting attention (using suns reflection).
      ● Write your NCKFC number and cell number on your paddle and equipment.

COTM - Catch of the month competition.
Every moth on the last day of the month, we ask members for their best photo of their fish caught
during that month.

The following day, the MEMBERS vote for the photo that THEY want as the next month’s NCKFC
Chat WhatsApp profile picture.

Your vote could be because it was the members first fish ever or just an amazingly clear picture of a
fish caught in that month. It is your choice.

We tally the votes and the winner gets the profile photo spot for one month.

They also get a set of Tie downs from Pinnacle Kayaks and a Reel Service from JC Reel
Services.
