de la Escuela
Black History Month is being celebrated in a big way at Morris
Jeff with outstanding performances of "My Black is NOLA" by
our elementary and middle school students, the Middle School
Poetry Slam last week, and today's High School Black History
Presentation. I want to thank our talented staff members who
gave of their time after school and on weekends to ensure our
students had these opportunities to pay tribute to the rich
heritage of our African American community here in New
Orleans and beyond. These experiences are unforgettable in
the lives of our students as they live out the stories of those who have come before us to
blaze paths of freedom and opportunity and to remind all of us of the gifts and sacri ces of
those who struggled to ensure a place like Morris Jeff can thrive in our community.

High School Attendance is High Stakes for
Graduation Progress
Louisiana law mandates that students be present for no less than 7,515 minutes per unit of
study. If the student is not, s/he will not earn credit for the course regardless of the academic
grade earned. Please be aware that the academic grade earned in courses in which a student
has not been present for suf cient instructional/seat time will be replaced by a grade of “F” if
the student does not recover instructional minutes.

Morris Jeff high school students may have no more than 6 unexcused absences in a course (A
day OR B day) and still earn an academic grade higher than "F." Please support your student to
be present and on time every day, and bring in a veri able written excuse to the of ce or Ms
Schully if you believe an absence may qualify for excusal.
