Orientation to Graduation

          Golden rules

          1. Know your course structure
          2. If something goes wrong, seek help
             asap
          3. Always check the Monash website
or with staff if you are not sure
about something (do not listen to
             what your friend says ….)

Big fish, small fish

                                          How will you adjust to
                                          University life and learning?

                                          Semesters are like a 100
                                          metre sprint.

You are now a small fish in a big pond
 of 73 000 students

Unlike school, your peers will be as
academically capable as you are (this
 is a good thing!)

Special Consideration and Deferred Exams
If you are unable to complete an
assessment or sit an exam, for reasons out
of your control you can apply for special
                 consideration.

Special consideration isn’t guaranteed and it
doesn’t lead to a mark adjustment. What you
may get is an extension, another assessment
                 or a deferred exam.

Please refer to the website for details
                 www.monash.edu/exams/changes/special-
                 consideration

Complaints and Grievances
We hope you have a positive relationship with the University and our staff, but we realise that
sometimes things go wrong. When that happens, you may need to make a complaint.

Step 1: Talk to the staff member concerned
Complaints can often be sorted out quickly if you raise them directly with the staff
         member concerned.
Step 2: Talk to their manager or discuss your situations with a member of the
University Counselling Service or a Student Advocacy and Support Adviser or the
         faculty Grievance Officer (Andrea Waller)
If you can't resolve the problem directly, or you feel the staff member is biased, you can
take your complaint to the next level.
Step 3: Make a formal complaint
If you haven't been able to resolve your complaint by talking to the relevant people,
you can lodge a formal complaint to the relevant grievance officer, using the Grievance
         Lodgment Form online.
