Staffing News
I can confirm that Stephanie Burton, our current Numeracy coach, has won
my deputy position while I am filling in for Deb O’Neill until Week 10.
Student Reports on Sentral
It has been an action packed and very busy term from the primary
years dance incursions, NAPLAN, successful SAPSASA sporting achievements to
the range of learning opportunities, excursions and parent workshops. As we
approach the end of Term 2 it is important to reflect on all of our achievements
over the semester. Teachers have been busy writing summative assessments and
preparing reports which will be published on the parent portal
https://sentral.lindenpkr7.sa.edu.au/portal on Wednesday 3rd July (Week 10).
We remind families that a C grade reflects that your child is demonstrating a satisfactory
level of achievement for what is expected at their year level. In other words, they are
making expected progress and are learning at a level where they can move into deeper
learning of the curriculum. Some parents may find some of the subject specific
terminology unfamiliar, such as ‘subitising’, ‘inferencing’ or ‘subordinate clauses’. Your
child should be able to let you know what these terms mean as teachers talk to their
Principal Update
students using this very specific language so children are clear about the learning
intentions of lessons. Should you have any queries about the content of your child’s
report, please contact the class teacher.
We hope families regularly log on to the Parent Portal to see a breakdown of their child’s
attendance including a summary percentage. The Department for Education and Linden
Park Primary School’s target is 95% attendance with no unexplained absences. The portal
also records late arrivals, which over time can amount to much lost learning. If you have
any difficulties accessing the portal, please contact the front office.
Managing Challenging Behaviour
At Linden Park, students are generally willing to learn and wish to engage in all the
learning experiences we have to offer. However at times, some students require extra
support in managing their behaviour. In line with Department for Education Policy, staff
at Linden Park implement supportive measures for individual students as well as
procedures to protect the rights of all students and staff to ensure a safe, caring, orderly
and productive learning environment. The school also uses a variety of whole school and
classroom approaches including incorporating the IB Learner Profile, the negotiation of
Class Essential Agreements, the explicit teaching of the School Values (Respect,
Responsibility, Creativity and Diversity) and the use of Restorative Practices, Child Protection
Curriculum and Cyber Safety Agreements. Our Behaviour Development Policy (available
on our website) is currently under review and we look forward to sharing the revised
document with the community as part of our consultative processes.
2020 Reception Enrolment
If your child is due to begin Reception in 2020, please ensure you have submitted your
child’s registration at the front office. It is important to note that our final date to receive
registrations is under review and therefore may close earlier than expected. Please refer
to our school website for eligibility requirements and up to date information at
http://lindenpkr7.sa.edu.au/parent-information/enrolments
Leaving Linden Park Primary School in 2020?
If your child will not be returning to Linden Park Primary School in 2020, please inform the front
office. This will assist us when we begin forward planning for 2020 early next term.

LIBRARY
We are getting ready for our inaugural Readers’ Cup next week. We
have 16 x Year 6 teams of 3-4 students each. These students have been
busy reading the five selected books for this quiz style reading
competition. We will have five rounds, one for each book.
The books students are reading for the 2019 Readers’ Cup are Con-Nerd by Oliver
Phommavanh, My life as an Alphabet by Barry Jonsberg, Just a Dog by Michael
Gerard Bauer, George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl and The all New must
have Orange 430 by Michael Speechley. We will include photos in the week 10
newsletter.
Does your child enjoy reading nonfiction?
If so, he or she may enjoy reading news articles aimed at
children. There are two online news websites that are
suitable for primary aged students:
Dogo News which is American at https://www.dogonews.com/ and
Kids News, an Australian website https://www.kidsnews.com.au/news
I recommend having a look at both of these websites and sharing them with your
child(ren). The Kids News website has articles at different reading levels as well.

Q & A on HAY—PARENT WORKSHOP
On Tuesday night 18th June, Q & A on Hay hosted a parent workshop on Number
Development run by Stephanie Burton, our Numeracy Coach. During the hands on
session, parents were encouraged to try some of the
activities currently incorporated in our classroom and
maths programs . She was able to identify links to the
Australian Curriculum and throughout the evening
showed examples of student’s learning. Thank you to
those parents who attended and to Stephanie for her
informative session.
Issue 9 | 20th June 2019 6Information for Parents
ROAD SAFETY
Children do not have good peripheral vision in a
busy traffic environment and can often run straight
across the road without looking. If you collect your
child from school, wait near the gate, hold their
hands and remember to do the kerb drill – Stop,
Look, Listen & Think – before you cross the road. It is important to use a crossing if
one is available and remember, parents can sometimes be inconsistent role models,
which only confuses the road safety message. If you collect your child from a bus
stop, it is important to wait for your child on the same side of the road where they
will be getting off the bus. You should never wait on the opposite side of the road.
Whenever you cross a road with your child, tell them what you are doing and what
Parent Information
you are looking at. It never hurts to repeat the same message – Stop at the kerb,
look to your right, look to your left and look to the right again. Listen for traffic and
think … is it safe to cross here or is there a better place that I can cross? Never cross
the road between parked cars or near a bend.
Marked crossings are a much safer place to cross the road – a short walk to a cross-
ing can be worth the effort. Linden Park has two dedicated road crossings on Hay
Rd and Highfield Ave with students and a teacher on duty to assist.
We ask all parents and students to always use the dedicated crossings.
Special Education Support For Families & Students
One of the ways that the Department for Education
provides special education support for schools, fami-
lies and students is through the Special Education Re-
source Unit (SERU).
They provide educators and families with access to:
A Specialised resource library - Teaching and
learning resources to support children with disability and learning difficulty (eg
speech and language resources, curriculum support materials). The collection
is available for loan to parents and educators.
Technologies - Assistive technologies such as laptops and alternative key-
boards that are available for loan to students with significant disability or se-
vere vision impairment.
Equipment - Access equipment for schools to support students with physical
disability such as specialised seating, portable ramps, wheelchairs and toilet-
ing aids.
Training and Advice- SERU staff offer a comprehensive range of support and
learning opportunities for families and carers including advice about resources
and technology workshops.
Early Intervention and Conductive education- Supporting deaf children up to
school age and during their transition to school. Supporting children with physi-
cal and multiple disabilities to become more independent
SERU is located at 72a Marlborough St, Henley Beach .
For more information, visit their website http://web.seru.sa.edu.au
Issue 9 | 20th June 2019 7Visit from JB Kindy
Linden Park Primary School was lucky enough
to have some kindy visitors from JB Cleland on
Monday 17th and Wednesday 19th June. The children walked to Linden Park and
joined in a music ukulele lesson with Room 25. This was a great opportunity for
Linden Park students to mentor the younger students.
After the lesson the kindy children explored the junior primary play equipment. This
visit will be the first of many over the year as the children prepare for transition to
their first year at primary school. Thank you for visiting JB Cleland!

bottle of wine but would still like to contribute to this fundraiser, a small
contribution ($5) via QKR under the Quiz Night Contribution menu can be
