Report from Rover Car Club of Otago to Association of Rover
                       Car Clubs
                    Masterton AGM 26th March 2021
The Rover Car Club of Otago has maintained a relatively full year of meetings and
events despite the disruptions of Covid-19. The closeness of our April meeting to the
official level 4 lock down meant that there was no April meeting however in May the
club went high tech and met via Zoom, a new experience for most. The Memorial
Run held on the last Sunday of May was also a lock-down casualty it was postponed
and held in August.
The Club AGM was held on the 18 July at Weavers Restaurant with 16 members and
partners present. The previous AGM minutes (28 July 2019) were ratified and the
President and Treasures reports were received and accepted. The election of officers
resulted in the sitting members being re-elected. Club membership was reported as
36 with a number of coming and goings across the year and sadly the loss of two
long time club members, Alistair Mc Inness and Eleanor Clark.
During the general discussion there was some debate around categories of member-
ship. Currently it’s a single membership system with extended rights of the mem-
bers partners to join in on all meetings, events and activities of the club. A subcom-
mittee was set up to discuss this and if agreed bring a recommendation of member-
ship categories to the 2021 AGM for discussion. While maintaining a steady mem-
bership for now its is still of concern that new members need to be found and attract-
ed to the club. There doesn’t appear to be any shortage of owners of rover cars but
joining a club does not hold the same attraction despite many contacting the club for
advice/information and finding parts.
The biggest casualty for club participation over the year was the Auto-Spectacular
which due to the uncertainty of Covid was cancelled. This is a major event that the
club supports through its participation annually and over the years the club has given
great exposure to the Rover marque and opportunity for members to display their
cars. Hopefully the 2021 event goes ahead without any issues. The 2020 Nove Rove
destination was Riverton and was well supported. The weather was somewhat mar-
ginal but there was still plenty of points of interest to see along the way. The high-
light of the weekend was the visit to the Templeton Flax Mill Museum.
The new year kicked off with what has become an annual journey to Kaka Point to
take advantage of local hospitality at the community market day and a barbeque and
natter at the Falconer holiday residence .
The main focus for the Club over the next 12 months is the organisation of the 2022
National Rally and the proposal if accepted at the this (ARCC) AGM is hold that
event at Te Anau.

Matters Arising:
Norman attended the last planning meeting for the 2021 Dunedin Best of British
Charity Motoring day to be held on Sunday the 14th of March. Departing from the
Dunedin Ice Stadium car park. Destination will be Milton and proceeds to the Dun-
edin Fire Brigade Restoration Trust. We have again volunteered to help out at the
departure and as judges if required. Our club gazebos will be used at the start and
finish of the rally giving us some good publicity with our club logo on each gazebo.
See poster in this newsletter for full details.
We encourage as many members to come along and make this a rally to remember.
Bring you family and friends for an enjoyable day out.
2022 National rally. We are looking for sponsors and businesses to donate product
for gifts and prizes for the rally our club is organising to take place next year based
in Te Anau. There is another rally planning meeting to be held on the 9th of March.
We are looking for volunteers to help. If you have any contacts for sponsorship or
prizes, contact Alan Matchett. Ray & Rebecca will be traveling to Te Anau in
April. While there they will meet with people regarding the 2022 ARCC national
rally.

Alan has confirmed to the ARCC that we will be hosting the 2022 national rally.
Finance:
Ray tabled the February 2021 bank statement.
Reminder, if you haven’t already paid your 2020 – 2021 subs, you are now over-
due. The prompt payment discount date has passed so all subs received are now at
the full amount of $30.00. Thank you to those members who have already paid
their subs.
Because Westpac Bank are going to dis-continuation cheques, from 25 June 2021,
our club will no longer be able to accept cheques for payment of club subscrip-
tions. Options will be cash or bank deposit from that date.
After discussion it was agreed the Treasurers report be received. Moved, Jeff.
Seconded, Gaynor. Carried.
General Business:
Norman suggested that we approach the Series 1 & 2 Land Rover Enthusiasts Club
to discuss a possible joining of our clubs. There was general agreement so Alan is
going to contact them for feedback. Any such joining of clubs would need to go to
a vote at our AGM for agreement.
Alan mentioned an article in Classic Car magazine by Greg Price regarding car
clubs not being vocal with their opinions on EVs and the plan to ban imports of
petrol vehicles from 2035. Ray mentioned to lack of electricity generation capacity,
network capacity and that a coal fired generator at Huntly is being taken “out of
mothballs”. So much for clean green electric cars.
Jeff asked if everyone was happy with his work on our club website. Jeff is keen to
hear new ideas for the website so contact Jeff with your suggestions.
Jeff also passed on his invitation to visit him if you are ever in Kaikohe.
Closure: Meeting closed at 7.46p.m.
Next meeting: Thur sday the 1st of April.
Rover Car Club Of Otago Tribune March 2021 - The Rover Car Club ...
Hello Best of British Enthusiasts. Many thanks to those of you who took part in this
year’s event.
We were very lucky once again to avoid COVID restrictions and enjoy perfect
weather on the day. There was an excellent array of British vehicles on the field and
a small but perfectly formed group of Commercial/Utility vehicles to make up our
experimental ’Marque of the Day’. Apart from the long trek to the toilets, (sorry),
everything seemed to go well from our point of view. We hope you enjoyed
yourselves and it looks like we have raised a healthy amount for our charity,
Dunedin Fire Brigade Restoration Society.
I have attached a copy of the list of prizes awarded on the day, and congratulations
to those winners. The judges had quite a task and there were many deserving cars
that didn’t make it onto the list. This year the trophy winners were also given
another prize. Mark Paterson from Southair Ltd made awards from pistons
originally from a Cessna aircraft motor. These are for the winners to keep. Details
about these and lots of photos & videos from the day can be seen on our Facebook
page https://www.facebook.com/BOBcarrun

In October we will begin to plan the next Best of British Charity Motoring Day and
we hope to see you again in early March 2022.
Thank-you for supporting us and our charity,
Happy motoring,
Barbara Macdonald
