Apecechea, Frank Fresno, CA M60S: #4 Seed
• Grew up in Hillsborough and Foster City California.
• Played #1 Singles for Fresno State in 1982 and 1983. Was all-conference player and went
24 – 10 in 1983.
• Received his first ATP points by qualifying for a $50,000 challenger event in Nigeria in 1984.
• Player of the year in the Men’s 30’s USTA Norcal in 1990.
• His USTA Copper River Team reached the finals of the Men’s 5.0 Nationals in New York in
1999.
Bossart, Beat Mill Valley, CA M55S: #4 Seed
• Grew up in Zurich, Switzerland.
• Junior champion (16's) of Eastern Switzerland.
• Played Division I at Sacramento State.
• Former top 10 open player for Northern California.
• Former top ten ranking in the 45's, and 50's in Northern California.
Brandt, Daniel San Francisco, CA M40D M45D
• Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and played the junior circuits there -- in the 16s, he got into the top 8 in Tokyo earning
him a spot in the All Japan Nationals.
• Came to California and played at University of the Pacific, NCAA Division I, from 1992-1996.
• Played Justin Gimelstob at UCLA in doubles, but his personal claim to fame is going 2 and 0 against Michael Chang, in
doubles, after he retired, both times at a Pro-Am in Newport Beach -- his partner was Scott Davis.
• Daniel currently represents the Olympic Club and is very active on the USTA leagues, rated a 5.0, a doubles specialist,
has been to Nationals 6 times with various formats: 9.0 Mixed (twice), 4.5 40+ (twice), Open 40+ (twice).

• Grew up in El Paso, Texas
• Began playing tennis sophomore year in high school and within 3 years won the national
junior Sun Bowl 18 and under boy’s singles.
• Tennis scholarship to 17th ranked D-1 NCAA S. Illinois University, Carbondale
• Won over 50 USTA singles and doubles nationals
• Ranked # 1 in the nation in every senior age category beginning in 1991 in the 35 and over.
• Ranked #1 in the world by ITF in the 45 and 50 and over men’s singles in 2000-2002 and
2005 respectively.
• Won 3 doubles senior world championships: 2001, 2002 and 2015.
• Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd In 1990 when he was the only player in USTA history
to win four doubles national championships on four different surfaces (hard, grass, clay,

Grew up in Mill Valley and his junior tennis years were based at the Mill Valley Tennis Club. He
also played just about any other sport that involved a ball, and in college he discovered a new one:
Lacrosse. After a bit of Open tennis after college, he spent the better part of 3 decades doing
other things. Having returned to competitive tennis in the past few years, he is enjoying the effort
to re-build his form along with a good competitive mindset, and making real the promise of the
tennis as a truly enjoyable sport of a lifetime.

for the freshman tennis team. On day one he lost 6-0,6-0 to top recruit Jon Hainline. Did not
pick up a racket for five years after that.
• Age 30, started to play Eastern men’s tournaments. Once he hit the 35s, had an undefeated
season on Long Island with some decent wins.
• At 39 semi-finaled 35 National Grass, at 40 won the National 35 Grass, and six months later
won the National 40 Grass.
• Has won 24 National titles, currently #1 in 70s.
• Won ITF World Championships in 55s. Ranked #1 ITF 55s
• 9 time member of USTA Senior Cup teams.

• Went to Diablo Valley College, finish 3rd in the state for junior colleges 1964.
• Wins over Len Saputo, before he got good. Won many age division NorCal tournaments over the years. National level,
age division anywhere from first round loser to semi-finalist over the years.
• USPTA head pro at Boundary Oaks Racquet Oaks Club, Walnut Creek. I found the land and built it with Len Saputo in
1971. Later called Club Sport.

• Grew up in the Bay Area.
• Played junior tennis and was good enough to play at national junior events such as
Kalamazoo.
• Played #3 in freshman year at San Jose State University, and won the Pacific coast conference
tournament. Played #2 sophomore year and #1 final two years.
• Began playing tennis again in mid to late 40’s, and with Russ Garber was able to obtain the #1
ranking in the United States in 35 doubles.
• In late 40s early 50s, he began playing singles. In 2016, was ranked #1 in the United States in
50s singles.
• Won gold, silver, bronze, and ITF level in two events.
• Has not played consistently since 2016 when he herniated disc’s in his back.
