Italy, officially called the Italian Republic, is a country
in Europe. It is a member of the European Union
(EU).

It is located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Italy

developed countries. Its economy is ranking eighth largest in the world and third
in the Eurozone.

As a reflection of its cultural wealth, Italy is home to 54 World Heritage Sites, the

Italy is subdivided into 20 regions. The country is also divided into 14 metropolitan

cuisine, rich in pasta, fish, fruits and vegetables

Italian cuisine, and along with coffee (especially
espresso), make up a very important part of the
Italian gastronomic culture.

PUGLIA

Apulia / Puglia is a region of Italy in Southern Italy
bordering the Adriatic Sea to the east and the
Ionian Sea to the southeast.

Puglia’s coastline is longer than that of any other
mainland Italian region. It is home to two national
parks, the Alta Murgia National Park and Gargano
National Park.

The climate is typically mediterranean with hot,
dry and sunny summers and mild, rainy winters.

Across the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, it faces
Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, and
Montenegro. Its capital city is Bari.

• BARI
Bari is the capital of the Apulia region, on the
Adriatic Sea, in southern Italy. It is the second most
important economic centre of mainland Southern
Italy after Naples, a port and university city, as well
as the city of Saint Nicholas.

The city itself has a population of 326,799 (2015).
The metropolitan area has 1.3 million inhabitants.

Bari has its own airport, Bari Airport, which is located
8 km northwest of the centre of Bari. It is connected
to the centre by train services from Bari Aeroporto
railway station.

• FASANO
Fasano is a town and comune in the Province of
Brindisi, Apulia, southern Italy. It is the second most
populated town of the province after Brindisi, and
has a population of 40,227.

Fasano is situated in an extended area with secular
olive trees and its territory extends from hills to the
sea with rich Mediterranean vegetation.

Coming down from hills the town of Fasano occupies
a dominant position in the valley which then leads
down to the sea: coastal resorts include Savelletri
with its beaches, the archaeological digs at Gnatia
and a golf course and the quaint fishing town of
Torre Canne.
