1Leonora Childcare Centre
The Gold Standard in Early Learning
Lot 138 Hoover Street
9037 7997
8.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
The Leonora Child Care Centre is located in Hoover Street with regulated opening hours from 8.00 am
to 5.00 p.m. The Centre has the capacity to care for 19 children and caters for children in the age
bracket of 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
The Child Care Centre is being managed by Roz who has qualifications in Advanced Diploma in Early
Childhood education and Care. We have 3 staff members completing the Certificate III in early
Childhood Education and Care and 1 team leader with the Early Childhood Education and Care
Diploma qualification.
Our staff have several years of experience in working in Early Childhood Education and work closely
with management and the team leader to supervise and educate the 12 children currently enrolled at
the service.
We offer a variety of activities to stimulate learning through play. Learning activities are based on the
children’s interests, capabilities and potential for learning. We value our families input into our service
program as their child’s first teacher and support any family participation in the program to give it
further value and recognition for the children.
During the year, we celebrate many special occasions and cultural events, these are incorporated into
the daily program and learning activities.
A recent special event we celebrated, was Easter, which saw the children busily organising an Easter
hunt, decorating large paper cut out eggs and reading stories about the Easter Bunny.
EASTER HAT PARADE at Leonora Childcare Centre 09/04/2020
The children decorated their hats with colourful stickers. After they finished, they participated in an
Easter Hat Parade to celebrate Easter!
Later, they went downstairs playground for an Easter Egg Hunt after afternoon tea. They were excited
to find lots of eggs around the playground. They had a great fun to hunt for the eggs around the play-
ground!
2Leonora Post Office
It’s business as usual at our local Post Office,
though with social distancing rules applied and
only 5 people at a time in the Post Office.
Australia Post has supplied perspex barriers
which have been installed part way along the
front counter for the health of the workers.
Rita and Hayley are very appreciative to the
Shire of Leonora for supplying hand sanitizer
which is being used by the customers.
Rita was quoted as saying “mail delivery is slow
at the moment as the main mail sorting offices
are adhering to the new distancing rules
which has resulted in a slower turnover of
the mail sorting. There is also a higher volume of
parcels as more people are shopping online.
There is still an express
bag delivery everyday”

4ANZAC DAY 2020
Under current restrictions our traditional ANZAC DAY ceremony
could not be held but each of us in our own way will
REMEMBER THEM
5e: 10 minANZAC BISCUITS
Recipe obtained from bakeplaysmile.com
Ingredients
110 g (1 cup) rolled oats
150 g 1 cup) plain flour
120 g (2/3 cup) brown sugar
70 g (2/3 cup) desiccated coconut
125 g butter
2 tbs golden syrup see recipe notes
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Instructions
Preheat oven to 160 degrees celsius (fan-forced). Grease and line three flat baking trays with baking
paper.
2. Combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar and coconut in a bowl.
3. Place butter, golden syrup and 2 tablespoons cold water into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 3
minutes, 50% power or until melted.
4. Stir through the bicarbonate of soda.
5. Pour the butter mixture over the oat mixture and stir to combine.
6. Roll level tablespoons of mixture into balls.
7. Place on trays, 5cm apart and flatten slightly.
8. For chewy ANZACS, bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden. For crunchy ANZACS, in-
crease cooking time to 12-15 minutes.
9. Leave on the baking trays for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
*Please note that my ANZAC biscuits recipe has been approved for publishing by the
Australian Department of Veterans Affairs.
For chewy ANZACS - Bake in a 160 degree celsius oven for 10-12 minutes (depending on your
oven). The biscuits will be soft when you take them out of the oven but will firm on cooling. Allow to
cool for 5 minutes on the tray before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For crunchy ANZACS - Cook for a further 3-5 minutes than the chewy recipe (total of 12-15 minutes).
Again, the biscuits will be soft straight out of the oven but will go crunchy as they cool.
Golden syrup substitute - You can replace the golden syrup with corn syrup, honey or maple syrup.
Storing the biscuits - ANZAC biscuits can be stored for several weeks in an airtight container at
room temperature. They will soften after a few days (but are still absolutely delicious!).

11Community Announcement
Regarding
Stray Dogs
At the Shire of Leonora Council Meeting held on Tuesday 23rd April, 2020,
there was a discussion regarding the number of stray dogs in town. It was
recognized that social media plays an important part in the rehoming of
“wandering and/or escapees” who are not actual strays, and is seen as a
community initiative. However, many of these dogs are repeat offenders
and the constant communication via social media does not sort the
problem. If a dog is reported as straying and the Shire of Leonora is
notified then the dog will be picked up and taken to the Pound. It is then
up to the owner to take responsibility for collecting their pet and ensuring
they do not wander again. This will include payment of relevant pound fees
as well as registration and microchipping if they have yet to do so.
It’s important to note that when you sign your registration
form you are agreeing to the following:
I certify that I am the owner of the dog/s / duly authorized agent of the
dog/s, particulars of which are listed in this application, and I declare that
I am/the owner is - (delete whichever does not apply):
I am not under eighteen (18) years of age and that the particulars shown in
this application are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief,
and I certify for the purposes of Section 16 (1a) of the Dog Act, that means
exist on the premises at which the dog will ordinarily be kept for effectively
confining the dog within those premises.

St Barbara Limited is an Australian based ASX listed gold producer and explorer. St Barbara’s assets include the
Leonora Operations in Western Australia, the Simberi Operations in Papua New Guinea, and the Atlantic Gold Oper-
ations in Nova Scotia, Canada.
We wish to make our offices welcoming, and reflective of the local community displaying artwork by local Aboriginal

St Barbara Leonora Operations are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from local Aboriginal artists to deliver one,

Artwork will need to be framed, or able to be hung on a wall. The artwork can be a new piece of artwork or an exist-
ing piece of artwork.
The artwork will be appropriately acknowledged and may be displayed on the St Barbara website, and used in all
promotional materials, social and other media communication channels such as reports, presentations, meetings,
subscriber emails etc. The artist will retain copyright of their work and enter into a signed agreement with St Barbara
that details how the artwork will be used.
Artists are requested to email an Expression of Interest that includes:
